Vimentin is an intermediate filament protein normally expressed in mesenchymal cells, but the evidence of the aberrant expression of vimentin in epithelial cancer cells suggests that the vimentin expression might be related to local invasiveness and metastatic potential. There have been a few previous studies on the vimentin expression in human cervical carcinogenesis using in vivo and in vitro models. We examined the immunohistochemical vimentin expression in various squamous epithelial neoplasms of the uterine cervix, including the cervical intraepithelial neoplasia group (n=25), the microinvasive squamous cell carcinoma group (n=15), the invasive squamous cell carcinoma group (n=15) and the metastatic squamous cell carcinoma group (n=8). Vimentin positivity was significantly higher in the invasive than in the intraepithelial group, and in the cases with lymph node metastasis than in those without metastasis, suggesting a relationship between the vimentin expression and progression of the uterine cervical epithelial tumors.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1988;26(2):139-144
This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of UVB radiation on epidermal melanoctes of C57BIL mouse, The results are summarized as follows : l) The numerical increase of DOPA positive melanocytes following UVB irradiation was due to both of active mitosis of epidermal melanocytes and the conversion of dormant. malanocytes to DOPA-positive melsnocytes. 2) Long term effects of UVB irradiatinn on the epidermal melanocytes suggest the persistent activation of typrosinase in UVB irradiated melanocytes.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1986;24(5):653-658
Forty-three patients with papulo-pustular rosacea with Demodex(D.) folliculorum were treated for 8 weeks on a random basis either with tetracycline 250 mg three times daily or with metronidazole 250 mg three times daily. Both drugs produced an improvement which was greater after 8 weeks than after 4 weeks, but there was no significant difference between them. The number of D. follilculorum after treatment with tetracycline was slightly decreased, but the number of D. folliculorum after treatment with metronidazole was more decreased than the tetracycline group. Metronidazole appears to be a effective drug for the treatment of rosacea with D. folliculorum.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1986;24(3):391-395
Lichen planus is rare in Korea and localized lichen planus on the lip without other skin lesions is even rarer. A 77-year-old man has oozing and crusting patches und somewhat ulceration surrounded by whitish reticular elements on violaceous base on both lips with burning sensation and pain. A 63-year-old man has well demarcated violaceous white reticular patches on the lower lip, buccal mucosa, glans penis and coronal sulcus. Clinical and histopathological studies of two cases showed typical features of lichen planus. They were treated with systemic and topical corticosteroids and showed much improvement.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1987;25(3):326-333
The important prerequisite for treatrnent of onychomycosis is the removal of as rnuch fungus-infected nail material as possible. Nincty-five patients with anychomycosis were treated with using urea preparations under occlusive dressings. The urea preparations were quite successful in maceraing the nail plate from the nail bed, allowing the easy removaI of diseased nails in all cases except one. The urea preparations removed only abnormal nail. Completely normal nail was unaffected. After nail avulsion, 95 patients were treated for 6 months with combination clotrimazole and ketoconazcile(group A), or with clotrimazole only(group B). Of the 38 patients in group A who complcted the treatment, 25(65.8%) were cured 6 months later by clinical and mycological criteria, compared to 20(47.6%) of 42 patieries in group B.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1988;23(6):1522-1528
The posterior cruciate ligament plays as basic stabilizer of the knee. Therefore the knee becomes unstable when tibial insertion of the posterior cruciate ligament is avulsed. The diagnosis may be delsyed or missed because of surgeon's 1sck of awareness or rare condition. The authors treated seven cases of avulsion fracture of posterior cruciate ligsment at the tibial attachment ares ranged from ten to thirty-two years. There were five male and two female. The results were as follows : 1. The cause of all seven cases injury was traffic accident. 2. The physical findings were seven positive posterior drawer test, seven cases of abrasion or laceration over the anterior proximal tibial surface and antero-medial surfsce of the knee joint. 3. The associated injury was comminuted fracture of the tibia and femur (1 case), rupture of collateral ligsment and comminuted fracture of the tibia (1 case) and zygomatic fracture (1 case). 4. The treatment methods were four cancellous fixation, one K-wire fixation after epiphyseal plate fusion but each one pull out wire and dexon suture before epiphyseal plate fusion. 5. The motion of knee joint was within normal limit and no instsbility was inspected at the three months after reduction.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1989;24(6):1655-1660
The authors had experienced 24 cases of aeromioclavicular dislocation from 1980 to 1988 at Korea university Haehwa hospital with at least 6 months follow up. They were treated by modified Phemister method. Ther were twenty-three males and one female. The ages ranged from eighteen to fifty-eight, the average was 31.6 years. The following results were obtained. 1. The most common cause of injuries was sports injury, followed by fall down and traffic accident. 2. There were twenty-two type III and type IV according to Rockwood and Green classification. 3. Duration between injury and operation were less than 1 week in 21 cases, between 1 to 2 weeks in 2 cases and more than 2 weeks in 1 case. 4. Clinical results according to Ejeskar classification were excellent in 16 cases(66.7%), good in 6 cases(25%), and acceptable in 2 cases(8.3%). 5. There were five complications : two K-wire breakage, two recurrent dislocation and one lateral end fracture of right clavicle.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 2005;40(7):839-844
PURPOSE: In order to study the frequency and the site of pain with shoulder impingement syndrome accompanied by myofascial pain syndrome (MPS), and to see how the treatment of impingement syndrome effects the improvement in myofascial pain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Among patients diagnosed with shoulder impingement syndrome with MPS and who complained around of shoulder muscle pain 53 subjects were selected as subjects for this study. Patients were divided into three groups according to method of treatment; the first group was the cases who received impingement injection test, the second group were only carried out isometric strengthening exercise of the periscapular muscles and the rotator cuff, and the third group was the cases who failed conservative treatment and had a surgical operation. All subjects had a physical examination before treatment to see if the MPS was present in the muscles around the shoulder, the range of motion of shoulder, and the American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES) shoulder score were measured. RESULTS: There was no relation to between age, gender, impingement signs, tenderness around the joints, the range of motion and ASES shoulder score. The VAS was reduced from 6.2+/-2.3 to 1.2+/-1.5 (p<0.01), and ASES shoulder score increased from 32.1+/-15.3 to 87.5+/-17.7 (p<0.05). The differences among treatments of the three groups were not significant in pain and treatment outcome (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: Treatment of shoulder impingement syndrome reduced the symptoms of MPS, thus shoulder impingement syndrome can be the one of the causes of MPS.
