1.Studies on Renal function in Normal Korean: III. Endogenous Creatinine Chromogen Clearance on Normal Korean*.
Korean Journal of Urology 1961;2(1):27-34
Some authors have claimed that the endogenous creatinine chromogen clearance method may profitable be used in the measurement of glomerular filtration rate which is usually represented by inulin clearance method (Popper and Mandel, Popper Mandel and Mayer, Findley, Goudsmit, Hayman, Halsted and Seyler, Steinitz and Turkand). The obvious advantages of using the of the former are: it does not require continuous intravenous infusion, frequent withdrawal of blood, and elaborate analytical procedures. In the work presented here, whole blood creatinine concentration in 167 cases and endogenous blood creatinine clearance in 155 cases and both plasma creatinine concentration and endogenous plasma creatinine clearance in 41 cases, of the normal Korean subjects were determined. Also in a group of 13 cases 74 endogenous blood creatinine clearance tests were performed repeatedly during the period of two to seven days.

2.Studies on Renal Function in Normal Korean: II. Urea Clearance Test on Normal Korean*.
Korean Journal of Urology 1961;2(1):19-26
In the 107 normal Korean subjects, 71 males and 36 females, he determination of the maximum urea clearance has been performed and the following results were obtained. 1. The maximum urea clearance corrected to the Korean standard body surface area, 1.57 square meters, are 70.5 +/- 5.53(40.0-101.8) ml./min. in average, 70.5 +/- 16.1(40.0-101.8) ml./min. in the males and 70.4 +/- 13.93 (42.9-93.5) ml./min. in the females. When corrected to the American standard body surfacearea, 1.73 sq.m., they are77.8 +/- 16.9 (43.6-112.2) ml./min., 77.7 +/- 17.7 (43.6-112.2) ml./min. and 78.1 +/- 15.0(47.3-103.1) ml./min., respectively. 2. The results of the standard urea clearance determination performed in 44 normal Korean subjects, 31 males and 13 females, are 39.2 +/- 6.62(30.0-61.1)ml./min. in average, 39.7 +/- 5.74(30.3-53.2) ml./min. in the males and 38.0 +/-8.64(30.0-61.1) ml./min. in the females when corrected to the Korean standard body surface area, 1.57 sq.m., and 41.0 +/- 6.84(31.6-63.6) ml./min.41.6 +/- 5.83(31.8-55.2) ml./min. and 39.8 +/- 9.03 (31.6-63.6) ml./min. when corrected to the American, respectively. 3. These determinations are similar to other investigators. A considerable daily fluctuation in the standard urea clearance is observed, and the maximum urea clearance, which is more stable, should be preferably performed for the determination of urea clearance.

3.Studies on Renal Function in Normal Korean: I. Phenolsulphone-phthalein Excretion Test on Normal Korean.
Korean Journal of Urology 1961;2(1):13-18
The author performed phenolsulphonephthalein excretion test in 95 normal Korean subjects. Five fractional method was used in 85 cases and ten fractional method in ten cases. The following conclusions were obtained. 1) By the five fractional method during the period of two hours, intravenously injected phenolsulphonephthalein was excreted: 43.4 +/- 6.69 % at 15 minutes, 60.1 +/- 7.02 % at 30 minutes, 73.5 +/- 6.89 % at 60 minutes, 79.2 +/- 6.71 % at 90 minutes and 82.1 +/- 6.53 % at 120 minutes, after the injection, respectively. 2) By the ten fractional mehod during the period of three hours, intravenously injected phenolsulphonephthalein was excreted: 15.7 +/- 2.75 % at 5 minutes, 36.4 +/- 2.91 % at 10 minutes, 45.9 +/- 3.37 % at 15 minutes, 53.6 +/- 2.45 % at 20 minutes, 58.7+/- 2.56 % at 25 minutes, 62.9 +/- 2.44 % at 30 minutes, 76.5 +/- 3.29% at 60 minutes, 82.4 +/- 3.90 % at 90 minutes, 86.0 +/- 4.45 % at 120 minutes, and 88.9 +/- 5.34 % at 180 minutes, after the injection, respectively. As shown above approximately a half of injected phenolsulphonephthalein is excreted in the first 20 minutes after the injection, and, thus, determination of the output of the dye at five minutes interval for the first 20 minutes would give a more detailed information in the renal excretory function. 3) The results of this study for phenolsulphonephthalein test is similar to other investigation.
