The progress in integrative medicine (IM) of coronary heart disease (CHD) in 2013 was summarized in this paper. Gratifying progress has taken place both in clinical studies and basic research of IM on CHD during 2013. We got some innovation in Chinese medical etiologies and pathogeneses of CHD. We also got some improvement in researches on Chinese medical syndromes in various fields. Many clinical studies have proved Chinese medicine and pharmacy is playing a role in preventing and improving CHD patients. In-depth basic researches on preventing and treating CHD by IM are gradually undergoing. Acting targets and mechanism are further clarified. Besides, we also pointed out the developing tendency of CHD researches and the current deficiency in CHD researches, hoping to provide reference for further studies in this field.

Object To assess the genetic diversity among ten natural populations in Ophiopogon japonicus (L f ) Ker Gawl and O. bodinieri Levl (Liliaceae) in Sichuan Province Methods Forty random decamer primers were screened for Random Amplified Polymophic DNA (RAPD) fragments Results Based on cluster analysis of 515 DNA bands amplified by 11 primers, a DNA molecular dendrogram was established, and the relationship of the populations and seeds between O japonicus and O bodinieri was set up Conclusion 1 Distinct genetic differences and extensive genetic diversity are presented among the samples The genetic differences are related to morphological differences, but not to geographic regions; 2 Quite genetic differences are presented between O japonicus and O bodinieri, it suggests that they have farther relationships

The composition of volatile compounds of soils and that of soil bacterial metabolites were identified by using the SPME-GC/MS method. Results showed that some compounds, trimethylamine, 3-methyl-2-pentanoe, dimethyl disulfide, methyl pyrazine, 2,5-dimethyl-pyrazine, benzaldehyde, N,N-dimethyloctylamine and nonadecane, subsisted commonly in soils and soil bacterial metabolites with strong fungistatic activity. These compounds may be the key antifungal factors in soil fungistasis, especially soil volatile fungistasis. Otherwise, the method used in this study was a good tool for further study of soil volatle fungistasis.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical application of mandibular-driven simultaneous maxillo-mandihular distraction to correct hemifacial microsomia with rapid prototyping technology.

METHODSThe patient' s skull resin model was manufactured with rapid prototyping technology. The osteotomy was designed on skull resin model. According to the preoperative design, the patients underwent Le Fort I osteotomy and mandibular ramus osteotomy. The internal mandible distractor was embedded onto the osteotomy position. The occlusal titanium pin was implanted. Distraction were carried out by mandibular-driven simultaneous maxillo-mandihular distraction 5 days after operation.

RESULTSThe distraction in five patients was complete as designed. No infection and dysosteogenesis happened. The longest distance of distraction was 28 mm, and the shortest distance was 16 mm. The facial asymmetry deformity was significantly improved at the end of distraction. The ocelusal plane of patients obviously improved.

CONCLUSIONSRapid prototyping technology is helpful to design precisely osteotomy before operation. Mandibular-driven simultaneous maxillo-mandibular distraction can correct hemifacial microsomia. It is worth to clinical application.

Objective To approach the effect of fluoride on the expression of thyroid peroxidase(TPO)activity and TPO mRNA in primary porcine thyrocytes.Methods Purified cultured porcine thyrocytes waft made into sodium fluoride model,and were divided according to the final concentration of NaF into 0(control group),40,80,160 mg/L.After exposed to NaF for 48 h,the morphology of the porcine thyrocytes was investigated with acridine orange staining method,TPO activity was measured with upgrade guaiacol method and RT-PCR method was used to detect the ratio of TPO/β-actin.Results The major changes included apoptotic bodies and cell fragments in the 80,160 mg/L groups under phase contrast microscope.With the increasing dose of fluoride.TPO activity,being(3.103±0.090),(1.944±0.025),(1.361±0.008),(0.668±0.026)U/L,respectively,had obviously lowered with a statistical significance compared between the groups(F=1563.864,P＜0.05).The TPO activity had a negative correlation with the dose of fluoride(r=-0.955,P＜0.05).With the dose of fluoride increasing,the expression of TPO mRNA had obviously lowered,being(0.947±0.013),(0.634±0.018),(0.448±0.028)and (0.210±0.009)with a statistical significance in group comparison(F=2713.855,P＜0.05).Conclusion Fluoride affects the thyroid via inhibiting TPO activity and expression of TPO mRNA.

Aim To investigate the cytotoxicity of XN4 against AML cells, and the underlying mechanisms by which XN4 might induce DNA damage and apoptotic cell death through reactive oxygen species ( ROS ) . Methods The proliferation inhibition ratio of AML cells was measured by MTT. The level of extracellular ROS, DNA damage, cell cycle process and apoptosis were tested by flow cytometry ( FCM ) . Western blot was applied to test the expression of proteins. Results XN4 significantly inhibited the proliferation of HL-60 and KG1α with IC50 ( 2. 79 ± 0. 15 ) μmol · L-1 and (2. 76 ± 0. 20) μmol·L-1 respectively. XN4 signifi-cantly increased the generation of intracellular ROS, followed by inducing DNA damage and activating the ATM-γ-H2AX signaling, which led to increases of cells in the S phases of the cell cycle. Subsequently, XN4 induced apoptotic cell death through activation of caspase-3 and Parp. Moreover, the above effects were all reversed by the ROS scavenger N-acetylcysteine ( NAC ) . Conclusion XN4-induced DNA damage and cell apoptosis in AML cells are mediated via ROS generation.

Objective To analyze the cause and treatment of the postoperative complications using one-stage posterior spinal osteotomy in the treatment of severe spinal deformity.Methods From September 2006 to May 2013,17 patients with severe spinal deformity (congenital scoliosis in 11 cases,congenital kyphosis in 4 cases,and congenital kyphoscoliosis in 2 cases) underwent one-stage posterior spinal osteotomy,including 5 males and 12 females with an average age of 22.6 (14-51) years.The preoperative mean coronal Cobb angle was 109° (85°-160°) while the mean sagittal Cobb angle was 104° (65°-152°).Two patients had neurological symptoms preoperatively whose spinal cord function was D,evaluated by ASIA classification.All patients were treated with pedicle subtration osteotomy and pedicle screw internal fixation,which SPO osteotomy 2 cases,PSO osteotomy 11 cases,VCR osteotomy 4 cases.Results There were 17 cases of complications in 147 patients,the complication rate was 11.6％(17/147).The causes were as followed,screw malposition in 2 cases,compromised by close of resected areas in 2 case,residual bone compression in 1 case,acute spinal cord injury in 2 cases,infection in 2 cases,broken stick or loosen hat in 3 cases,and superior mesenteric artery syndrome in 5 cases.Postoperative neurological complications occurred in 7 cases.Two cases with preoperative ASIA D became ASIA C,5 cases with normal nerve function became ASIA C in 2 cases and ASIA D in 3 cases.After surgical exploration,given Methylprednisolone and neurotrophic drugs,removal or changing of the internal fixation,anti-infection and symptomatic treatment,15 cases recovered completely and 2 cases improved partially.Conclusion One-stage posterior spinal osteotomy for severe spinal deformity is technical demanding and risky,and the postoperative complications are common.Appropriate operative procedure,close observation of sensation and motor function,timely surgical exploration and nerve decompression,and early brace wear are all required.
