1.Kinetics of carrying and releasing oxygen of red blood cells in hemorrhagic shock.

This paper focuses on the capacity changes of the red blood cells carrying and releasing oxygen. In order to provide theoretical basis and guidance for the clinical treatment of uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock, we investigated cases in the occurrence of uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock, and also analyzed the mechanism of physiological cause. Twenty healthy SD rats were used to build the hemorrhagic shock model. Red blood cells were collected at the initial step, at blood lose 20%, 30%, and 40% to determine the red blood cells capacities of carrying and releasing oxygen. The Hemox-analyzer was used to measure the thermodynamic parameters of the P50, the kinetic parameters of Tc50 and Tr50. The 2,3-DPG, pH value, glucose and lactate dehydrogenase changes were also captured and recorded. With the aggravation of shock, P50 and lactate dehydrogenase are continuously increased, Tr50, pH value and glucose are tended to reduce significantly, and Tc50 does not change significantly. With the increase of blood loss, red blood cell capacity to carry oxygen is stable, and the ability to release oxygen is increased, so that the oxygen consumption cannot be satisfied, which causes organ failure.

2.Increased oxidative damages of erythrocytes caused by declined blood oxygen saturation.

This paper was to explore the effect of blood oxygen saturation (SO2) on oxidative damages of erythrocytes under the condition of oxidative stress. Keeping SO2 of cultured erythrocytes in vitro at the states of 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9 and 0.98, respectively, we induced oxidative stress by tert-buthylhydroperoxide (BHP, 0.15 mmol/L of final concentration). After incubation, antioxidant capacity was assessed by measuring content of reduced glutathin hormone (GSH) in erythrocytes. Methemoglobin (MetHb) content, lipid peroxidation (thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances, TBARS) and denatured globin-chains on the plasma membrane were measured to assess the extent of oxidative damages. The results showed that in the presence of BHP, GSH contents increased from 0.3 to 0.98 groups; MetHb, TBARS and globin-chains levels all dropped with the rise of SO2. In conclusion, antioxidant capacity and oxidative damages of erythrocytes are closely related to SO2, declined SO2 could promote oxidative damages of erythrocytes.

Previous methods used for nuclear transplantation were further investigated to develop a method that was both easy to carryout and did not require any special apparatus, such as Piezoimpact or Spindle-View. Following the puncture of zona pellucida with two holes by injection pipette that contained donor nuclei or cells, the injection pipette was pulled back to the perivitelline space while the negative pressure was increased in the holding pipette until the polar body and karyoplasm were wiped off completely. Then a reconstructed embryo was completed by the direct injection of the donor nucleus or cell without pulling out the injection pipette. 200 oocytes were manipulated using this method and it cost about 40 seconds with nucleus injection and about 30 seconds with cell injection to complete a reconstructed embryo. The success rates were 62.6% and 86. 0%, respectively, and enucleation rate was about 73.3% validated by Hoechst 33342. Using this method, the nucleus was completely eliminated and another was injected using the microscope and micromanipulator. Moreover, the efficiency of nuclear transplantation and survival rate of reconstructed embryos were greatly improved. Furthermore, it is very easy to manipulate and popularize in practice.

5.Transrectal ultrasound-guided puncture and anhydrous alcohol sclerotherapy for Müllerian duct cyst.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of anhydrous alcohol sclerotherapy following transrectal ultrasound-guided puncture in the treatment of Mülllerian duct cyst.
METHODSTotally 44 patients with Müllerian duct cyst underwent transrectal ultrasound-guided puncture and sclerotherapy, 21 injected with anhydrous alcohol of half the volume of the aspirated cystic fluid followed by aspiration of all the fluid 5 minutes later (treatment group) , and the other 23 treated by cystic fluid aspiration only (control group). The clinical effects of the two methods were compared.
RESULTSThe response rate and cure rate were 80.95 and 52.38% in the treatment group, as compared with 56.52 and 26.09% in the control (P < 0.001). No adverse events were observed in either of the two groups.
CONCLUSIONTransrectal ultrasound-guided puncture and anhydrous alcohol sclerotherapy is a safe and effective approach to the treatment of Mülllerian duct cyst.

6.Mentality and behavior of children suffering from viral myocarditis.

OBJECTIVEThe present study was designed to investigate the influence of viral myocarditis on mental behavior of the children.
METHODSMentality and behavior of the 178 children suffering from viral myocarditis were examined with Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) edited by Gong Yao-xian in 1986 and 104 sex, age, education and achievement-matched children with pneumonia or upper respiratory infection were enrolled as controls.
RESULTSThe mentality and behavior of the children with viral myocarditis were distinctly abnormal. The abnormal rates of boys and girls suffering from acute and deferment viral myocarditis were evidently higher than those of control children (P < 0.01). The behavioral abnormalities of boys were hypochondria, social difficulties, unwell of body and attack. Whereas, the girls presented hypochondria, unwell of body, social flinch and disobeyed discipline, which was significantly different from the control children. The total and hypochondria cursory mark of the second check result of deferment boys were evidently higher than those of the first check (P < 0.05). The total cursory mark of the second check result of deferment girls was higher than that of the first check (P < 0.05) and evidently higher than that of the acute second check result (P < 0.01). The abnormal rates of mentality and behavior correlated positively with the age of children and they were associated with the severity of the illness.
CONCLUSIONViral myocarditis evidently affected the mentality and behavior of children, which should be paid great attention to.

7.Research progress on food literacy assessment tools for children and adolescents

Abstract
As dietary issues of children and adolescents become increasingly complex, the assessment of food literacy (FL) is increasingly importance. FL involves a comprehensive cognition and practical ability concerning food among children, playing a key role in fostering healthy eating habits and improving health levels. The article explores the definition and connotations of FL, and introduces eight FL assessment tools in terms of theoretical foundations, dimensions, assessment methods, and their reliability and validity. Moreover, it provides a comparative analysis of these tools by examining their dimensional design, evaluation indicators, strengths, and weaknesses, as well as their applicable subjects and scenarios, aiming to offer references for implementing relevant policies and developing more comprehensive and effective FL assessment tools.

Background:
To enhance perioperative outcomes, a perioperative registry that integrates high-quality real-world data throughout the perioperative period is essential. Singapore General Hospital established the Perioperative and Anesthesia Subject Area Registry (PASAR) to unify data from the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative stages. This study presents the methodology employed to create this database.
Methods:
Since 2016, data from surgical patients have been collected from the hospital electronic medical record systems, de-identified, and stored securely in compliance with privacy and data protection laws. As a representative sample, data from initiation in 2016 to December 2022 were collected.
Results:
As of December 2022, PASAR data comprise 26 tables, encompassing 153,312 patient admissions and 168,977 operation sessions. For this period, the median age of the patients was 60.0 years, sex distribution was balanced, and the majority were Chinese. Hypertension and cardiovascular comorbidities were also prevalent. Information including operation type and time, intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay, and 30-day and 1-year mortality rates were collected. Emergency surgeries resulted in longer ICU stays, but shorter operation times than elective surgeries.
Conclusions
The PASAR provides a comprehensive and automated approach to gathering high-quality perioperative patient data.
9.Study on the association of cholesteryl ester transfer protein gene mutations with the susceptibility to coronary atherosclerotic heart disease.

OBJECTIVETo determine the frequencies of 4 mutations of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) gene in Chinese population and to investigate the association of the mutations with lipid metabolism and the susceptibility to coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD).
METHODSThe target fragments of CETP gene were amplified and analyzed by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism technique in 209 unrelated control individuals and 203 CHD patients. The test for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was performed using HWE program and statistical analysis was implemented in statistical package SPSS.
RESULTSIVS14A and 451Q mutant genes were not found in either control group or patient group. The frequencies of 405V mutant allele were 0.443 and 0.413 in controls and patients, respectively, while 442G mutant gene frequencies were 0.007 and 0.025, respectively. The observed allele frequencies of I405V and D442G mutation were in accord with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The frequency of 442G mutant gene in patients was significantly higher than that in controls (P=0.043). Compared with the CHD patients without D442G mutation, the 442G heterozygous CHD patients exhibited a significant increase in plasma TC and LDL-C concentration (P=0.017; P=0.041).
CONCLUSIONIVS14A and 451Q mutants of CETP gene were rare in Chinese population and 442G mutant gene was possibly one of the susceptibility factors to CHD in Chinese.

10.Clinical features of neuroblastoma: an analysis of 44 children.

OBJECTIVE:
To study the clinical features of neuroblastoma (NB) and the factors influencing survival rate.
METHODS:
A total of 44 children with NB who were admitted from April 2016 to February 2020 were enrolled as research subjects. A retrospective analysis was performed on their medical data and follow-up data.
RESULTS:
The common clinical symptoms of these 44 children were fever (10/44, 23%), mass (9/44, 20%), abdominal pain (8/44, 18%), cough (7/44, 16%), pale complexion (3/44, 7%), claudication (2/44, 5%), and abnormal activity (2/44, 5%). According to the INSS stage, 2 children (4%) had stage I NB, 5 children (11%) had stage II NB, 5 children (11%) had stage III NB, and 32 children (73%) had stage IV NB. The mean follow-up time was (15.3±1.5) months, with a recurrence rate of 20% and an overall survival rate of 82%. Among the 44 children, 29 (66%) achieved event-free survival and 7 (16%) had survival with tumor. The univariate analysis showed that a pathological type of NB and an increase in serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) decreased the overall survival rate of children with NB (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
The clinical symptoms of children with NB are not specific at the first visit. Fever, abdominal pain, and mass are common symptoms, and there is a high proportion of children in the advanced stage. The pathological type of NB and an increase in serum NSE may be associated with a reduction in the overall survival rate of children with NB.
