Purpose: This study was done to investigate the mediating effects of acceptance action on the relationship between diabetes self-stigma and quality of life in diabetes patients. Methods: For this study a descriptive research approach was used. Patients (237) with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus from a doctor of endocrinology were included. Data collection was done from March 26, to March 28, 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis, and hierarchecal multiple regression. Results: The mean scores for diabetes self-stigma, acceptance action and quality of life were 2.67±0.71, 4.12±0.38, and 3.26±0.48, respectively. Acceptance action was found to partial mediate the relationship between diabetes self-stigma and quality of life (z=-4.20, p<.001), and its explanatory power was 17.6%. Conclusion To improve the quality of life among patients with diabetes in diabetes self-stigma situations, it is necessary to improve their acceptance action and develop step-by-step and differentiated acceptance action enhancement programs through multidisciplinary collaboration.

Purpose: This descriptive study investigated the effects of self-efficacy and self-stigma on self-care in people with diabetes. Methods: The study included a total of 377 patients with diabetes enrolled in university hospitals in D city and public health centers in S city. Data were collected from 1 July to 31 August, 2017, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Diabetes self-care was positively correlated with diabetes self-efficacy, whereas it was negatively correlated with diabetes self-stigma. Participants’ education level, marital status, perceived health status, type of medication, self-efficacy, and self-stigma explained 42.4% of the variance in diabetes self-care. Conclusion The findings indicate that diabetes self-efficacy and self-stigma are important factors for improving self-care in patients with diabetes. Therefore, systematic programs for enhancing self-efficacy and reducing self-stigma of these individuals should be developed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Diabetes Acceptance and Action Scale-Revised (DAAS-R) for Korean patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: The survey was conducted from September 1, 2021, to September 30, 2021, through a survey institution for patients diagnosed with diabetes who understood the purpose of the study and voluntarily agreed to participate. A total of 231 individuals with type 2 diabetes participated in this study. After performing forward and backward translations of the original version of the Diabetes Acceptance and Action Scale-Revised (DAAS-R) into Korean, its constructive validity (confirmatory factor analysis), concurrent validity and reliability were assessed. Concurrent validity was confirmed through the correlation between acceptance and action, quality of life, diabetes self-stigma, and experiential avoidance. Results: Construct validity, measured using confirmatory factor analysis, showed a good fit. The DAAS-K was positively correlated with acceptance and action, quality of life, and negatively correlated with diabetes self-stigma and experiential avoidance. As for internal reliability, the Cronbach’s α of the DAAS-K was .95. Conclusion The DAAS-K can be applied to assess diabetes acceptance and action in Korean patients with type 2 diabetes and to compare the levels of psychological flexibility of patients with diabetes internationally.

METHODS: The participants were 166 staff nurse working in university hospital located in D city. Data were collected from July 1 2017 to 31, 2017. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression. RESULTS: The regression model that included demographics and coworker support explained about 40.0% of psychological well-being. Marital status, nurse satisfaction, turnover experience, and coworker support were the predictors of psychological well-being in staff nurses. CONCLUSION Coworker support was an important predictor of the psychological well-being of staff nurse. Therefore, strategics to improve coworker support are needed to increase psychological well-being in the clinical field.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare factors influencing depression in elderly women according to economic status. Methods: The data were obtained from the 6th and 7th KNHNES. Data for 1,814 elderly women were included. Variables related to general, physical and psychological characteristics were selected. Results: The results of the study were as follows. 1) In elderly women, factors influencing depression were found to be:higher economic level, older age, myocardial or angina pectoris, diabetes, dietary status, drinking more than one drink at a time, higher stress level, marital status and home ownership. 2) In elderly women with a moderate economic level, economic activity, stress level, subjective health status, frequency of drinking, and chewing problems were the major factors contributing factors to depression. 3) In elderly women with a lower economic level, level of educational, physical discomfort for two weeks, hypertension subjective body shape, subjective health status, frequency of drinking, amount drank at one time, number of household members, dietary condition, home ownership, body mass index, chewing problems and frequency of breakfast, lunch and dinner per week were the variables influencing depression. Conclusion The results of this study show that factors influencing depression are different according to the economic status of elderly women. In order to prevent depression in elderly women, it is necessary to establish different strategies according to their economic status.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of cognitive function and depressive symptoms on instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) in addition to identify the factors associated with IADL in community-dwelling older adults. METHODS: This was a descriptive study with cross-sectional design. Data were collected from July 2013 to June 2014. A total of 143 participants without dementia, depression and disability were enrolled in this study. Cognitive function was measured using Seoul verbal learning test (SVLT), digital span (forward/backward) and fist-edge-palm test. The Korean-IADL and Short Geriatric Depression Scale (S-GDS) were used. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression. RESULTS: Overall, a multiple regression model revealed that approximately 27.4% of total variability in IADL in the sample of community-dwelling older adults could be explained by the significant 12 variables in this model (R²=0.274, F=5.467, p<.001). Age, having religion and cognitive function were the predictors of IADL in community-dwelling older adults. CONCLUSION: This study suggest that we need to monitor cognitive function in older to maintain the ability for IADL in older adults. Also, individualized program for improving older adults' IADL should be included in nursing intervention.

Purpose: This study investigated the mediating effects of acceptance action on the relationship between diabetes distress and self-stigma in older adults with diabetes. Methods: A descriptive research approach was adopted using 187 patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus by an endocrinology doctor. The data were collected from 26 to 31 March, 2020 and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The mean scores for diabetes distress, self-stigma, and acceptance action were 2.98±0.64, 2.54±0.74, and 4.16±0.35, respectively. Acceptance action partially mediated the relationship between diabetes distress and self-stigma (z=1.98, p=.024), with an explanatory power of 51.0%. Conclusion To reduce diabetes self-stigma among old adults in diabetes distress situations, it is necessary to improve their acceptance action and develop step-by-step differentiated acceptance action enhancement programs through multidisciplinary collaborations.

PURPOSE: In this descriptive correlation study, an investigation was done of the effects of interpersonal problems and character of nurses on the quality of nursing service. METHODS: The participants were 154 clinical nurses working in hospitals located in C province and D city. Data were collected from February 1 to May 31, 2018. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression. RESULTS: Interpersonal problems correlated negatively with character and quality of nursing service. Character was positively correlated with quality of nursing service. Participants' age, marital status, education level, position, interpersonal problems and character explained 52.0% of variance in quality of nursing service. CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that interpersonal problems and character are important factors to be considered in working to improve nursing service quality. Therefore, systematic programs to reduce interpersonal problems and enhance nurses' character level should be developed.

The aim of this study was to identify bibliographic characteristics and research trends of articles published on the elderly people in dental hygiene. An analysis was done of 191 articles published from 1999 to 2017. Bibliographic characteristics were nine items such as publication journal, research design, research participants, number of researchers, data analysis method, keywords, research topic, and validity and reliability report. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics of statistical program. First, the research on the elderly, which was published in dental hygiene, started to be published in 1999 and on going. Though major publications have been published in Journal of Korean Society of Dental Hygiene and Journal of Dental Hygiene Science, the kinds of journals are becoming diverse. Second, cross-sectional research was the most. Third, the elderly were the most studied subjects, but the criteria varied. Fourth, the number of authors was largest in order of two and three person. Fifth, data analysis method was in order of descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. Sixth, there were many duplication of keywords about oral, elderly, and health. Seventh, oral health behavior science was the most studied subject. Eighth, validity and reliability were reported at 27.4% and 51.6%, respectively. Ninth, only 15.7% of study was founded research funding. Based on the results of this study, we consider increase experimental research further. Therefore, it is recommeded that validity and reliability should be reported in research paper, and the keywords used in the field of dental hygiene should be agreed upon.
