1.Normal CT anatomy of the calcaneus

Normal sectional anatomy of the calcaneus with multiplanar CT examination was studied in 5 volunteers as thebackground for interpretation of various abnormalities. Major 3 sectional anatomy including plantar, coronal,sagittal and additional tuberosity planes are described. With CT examination of the calcaneus, 1. More detailedanatomy of 3 facets of subtalar joint(anterior, middle, and posterior facet) can be well visualized. 2. Itsclinical applications in the tarsal trauma, tarsal coalition, subtalar infectin, degenerative arthritis, clubfoot, pes planus and tarsal tumor could provide much more informations, which not obtained by conventionalradiographic studies.

2.The Treatment of Infected Non-union of Fractures of Long Bones

The frequency of infected non-union of long bones is increased due to an increment of open fractures, and so its treatment give orthopedic surgeons a rather difficult obstacles. In treatment of twenty two cases of trouble infected non-union that we undergone from march, 1980 to decmber, 1984, we use some principles of treatment, that is, rigid osteosynthesis, autogenous cancellous bone graft and irrigation system, so we obtain the good results. The conclusion are as follows: 1. All cases were men, and they occured more commonly in young adults, 10 cases (45.5%) were in third decade. 2. The fractures of the tibia showed a high frequency of infected non-union, 17 cases (77.3%) were the fractures of the tibia. 3. All cases showed a grave comminution initially, of them 18 cases (81.8%) were open fractures. 4. The most common causative organism of an infection was staphylococcus aureus, 14 cases(63.6%), showed that organism in pus culture. 5. Using the above mentioned principles of treatment, bony union was achieved in 18 cases for average 5 months except 2 cases losting the follow-up and 2 cases undergoing the below knee amputation.

7.Immersion radiography for enhancement of soft tissue contrast

Detection and evaluation of early soft tissue changes are important in rheumatoid arthritis or other jointdiseases. The most important factors for radiologic demonstration of soft tissue changes are resolving power andthe optimization of contrast differences between structures representing skin and subcutaneous tissue densities.Phantom study was done by using combination of immersion technique and mammography to get the most reliable methodfor improvement of soft tissue contrast without deterioration of resolution. Clinical application was also done in5 normal volunteers and 5 rheumatoid patients. The results indicate that soft tissue contrast, especially betwenskin and subcutaneous tissues can be significantly imporved with combination of immersion technique andmammography with 50% ethanol in both phantom and clinical study.

8.Traumatic Bilateiral Anteror and Posterior Dislocation of Hip: Report of Two Case

Two cases of traumatic bilateral anterior and posterior dislocation of hip are reported. Dislocations were developed by a traffic accident as a passenger injury in truck. In both cases, the fractued femoral heads appeared posteriorly dislocated on x-ray examination and one of them was removed through posterior approach. Primary arthroplasty for operated hip was not attempted because the patient was young and the defect seemed to be unrelated to weight bearing surface. Extreme rarity of its incidence and curious uncertain mechanism of injury urge to report these cases.
