3.Estimation of Young's Modulus and Apparent Density of Human Trabecular Bone by Spherical Indentatin Test and CT.

We intended to evaluate the Young's modulus of trabecular bone and apparent density from Computed Tomography(CT) and Spherical Indentation test and to quantify relation ship between them. The distal femurs(31 age, male, left and right) were prepared for exprimentatin and were embedded with repect to anatomical orientation. Then the specimens were scnned at 1 mm intervals on GE9800 CT scanner and the Hounsfield Units(HU, or CT number) were extracted from each CT image. After scanning, the bones were sectioned with diamond saw, producing 8 mm cubes of trabecular bone(72 eachs) from the metaphyseal region of both distal femur. The cubes were mechanically tested in inferior-superior(IS), anteriorposterior(AP), and medial-lateral(ML) direction with custom-made device, Spherical Indentatin Tester. After testing, the real apparent density of specimens were measured. The results of this study showed that the IS modulus was singificantly greater than both the AP and ML modulus and the AP modulus was also greater than ML modulus significantly(p<0.01). A linear relation ship between HU and real apparent density was found to be significant(R2=0.68) and significant power relationship between the apparent density and the tangent moduli(either by CT or physical measures) was also found.

Pilomatricoma is a well defind and characteristic entity histologically, but this tumor may be encountered during aspiration biopsy of subcutaneous mass, and is, occasionally, confused with other neoplasms, particularly squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and epidermal inclusion cyst. Recently, we have experienced a case of pilomatricoma diagnosed by aspiration biosy. The smear of the aspirate revealed anucleated "ghost" squamous cells, basaloid or basophilic squamous cells and nucleated squamous cells, which lack nuclear features of malignacy. These findings are consistent with pilomatricoma.

8.A Biocompatibility Evaluation of Hydroxyapaite·Titania Surface for Dental Implant.

The objective of this study was to fabricate hydroxyapatite (HA) containing titania layer by HA blasting and anodization method to obtain advantages of both methods and evaluated biocompatibility. To fabricate the HA containing titania layer on titanium, HA blasting treatment was performed followed by microarc oxidation (MAO) using the electrolyte solution of 0.04 M β-glycerol phosphate disodium salt n-hydrate and 0.4 M calcium acetate n-hydrate on the condition of various applied voltages (100, 150, 200, 250 V) for 3 minutes. The experimental group was divided according to the surface treatment procedure: SM (simple machined polishing treatment), HA, MAO, HA+MAO 100, HA+MAO 150, HA+MAO 200, HA+ MAO 250. The wettability of surface was observed by contact angle measurement. Biocompatibility was evaluated by cell adhesion, and cell differentiation including alkaline phosphatase activity and calcium concentration with MC3T3-E1 cells. The porous titanium oxide containing HA was formed at 150 and 200 V. These surfaces had a more hydrophilic characteristic. Biocompatibility was demonstrated that HA·titania composite layer on titanium showed enhanced cell adhesion, and cell differentiation. Therefore, these results suggested that HA containing titania layer on titanium was improved biological properties that could be applied as material for dental implant system.

10.Comparing the Validity of CAM-ICU and CAM-ICU-7 for Delirium Assessment based on Simulation

Purpose:
: This study aimed to compare the validity and user evaluations of the Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU) and its 7-item version (CAM-ICU-7) for delirium assessment.
Methods:
: Thirty-six intensive care unit (ICU) nurses from four university hospitals participated in this simulation-based methodological study. Four standardized patients with normal cognition, subsyndromal delirium, hypoactive delirium, and hyperactive delirium were recruited. The participants assessed all four standardized patients using the CAM-ICU and CAM-ICU-7. We analyzed the validity, assessment time, and user evaluations of both tools. DeLong’s test and the paired t-test were used for comparisons.
Results:
: The CAM-ICU showed sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 80.6%, 94.4%, and 84.0%, respectively, with an Area Under Curve (AUC) of 87.5%. CAM-ICU-7 demonstrated a sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 90.7%, 97.2%, and 92.4%, respectively, with an AUC of 94.0%. The CAM-ICU-7 showed a better AUC than the CAM-ICU for detecting subsyndromal delirium (p =.029). However, the CAM-ICU-7 required more time for assessment across all patient types (p< .001). ICU nurses reported that the CAM-ICU was faster to administer, whereas the CAM-ICU-7 was easier to use, better at detecting delirium, more effective at reflecting changes in delirium, and had a higher intention to use in clinical practice.
Conclusion
: The CAM-ICU-7 demonstrated superior validity compared to the CAM-ICU. Despite requiring more time, ICU nurses evaluated the CAM-ICU-7 as more useful. These findings support using the CAM-ICU-7 for delirium assessment in ICU settings.
