Pure ovarian choriocarcinomas are extremely rare and aggressive tumors which are gestational or non-gestational in origin. Due to the rarity of the tumor, there is a lack of information on the clinicopathologic features, diagnosis, and treatment. We report a case of a pure ovarian choriocarcinoma, likely of non-gestational origin, treated by cytoreductive surgery in combination with post-operative chemotherapy. The patient was free of disease after a 12-month follow-up.

OBJECTIVETo explore the detection efficiency of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
METHODSImmunomagnetic negative enrichment by nanometer magnetic beads and label-free capture with Captor(TM) system were used to isolate and enrich CTCs from peripheral blood of HCC patients, and epithelial and HCC markers were applied to identify CTCs by immunofluorescence staining. CTCs were detected in 50 HCC patients before and after hepatectomy to test the method for isolation, enrichment and identification. The dynamic changes of pre- and post-operative CTCs' numbers were compared. The clinical data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 software.
RESULTSNegative enrichment methods by nanometer magnetic beads and label-free capture using Captor(TM) system were both suitable for CTCs isolation and enrichment in HCC patients. The positive detection rate of CTCs in HCC patients via negative enrichment was 96.0% (48/50), the preoperative median number of CTCs was 16 per 7.5 ml blood, and the postoperative median number was 17 per 7.5 ml blood.
CONCLUSIONSBoth negative enrichment and Captor(TM) system are suitable for isolation and enrichment of CTCs in HCC patients. There is a significant difference in the numbers of CTCs before and after operation, and dynamic detection of CTCs will provide helpful prognostic information for HCC patients in clinics.

3.A study of different calculation methods of spike and wave indexinelectrical status epilepticus during sleep
Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases 2023;40(3):202-206
Objective Spike and wave index (SWI) is of great importance for the diagnosis of electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES) in children patients. This study intended to compare four commonly used SWI methods with full night SWI to evaluate their performances. Methods Fifteen patients diagnosed with ESES by electroencephalogram initial report (SWI≥50%) were retrospectively analyzed, and SWI was calculated for the full night sleep(SWI),the first sleep cycle (SWI1),the first 5 minutes of the first sleep cycle (SWI15 min),the first 10 minutes (SWI10 min) and the first 15 minutes (SWI15 min). Wilcox paired test was used to compare SWI with other four SWI methods respectively. Results The SWI of all four methods was significantly different from the full night SWI (p-values of 0.003、0.002、0.002和0.001,respectively,α=0.0125). Among the 15 patients,14 (93.3%) had the trend that SWI decreased with sleep cycles overnight. Conclusion None of the four methods of SWI is a good substitute for full night SWI. The SWI tends to decrease with sleep cycles overnight, and using the first sleep cycle or anepoch of it to calculate SWI is likely to be overestimated.

OBJECTIVE:
Mental disorders of the elderly population in China deserve attention. Social health is significantly associated with depression. This study aimed to evaluate the rate of depressive symptoms and to test the relationships between social health and depressive symptoms among a large sample of community-dwelling elderly adults.
METHODS:
We conducted a cross-sectional study among community-dwelling adults aged 60 years or above in Zhejiang Province, China. Face-to-face interviews were used to complete a structured questionnaire for all participants. We used the Social Health Scale for the Elderly (SHSE) to evaluate social health status and used the short form of the Geriatric Depression Scale to evaluate depressive symptoms. Multivariate logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between social health status and depressive symptoms.
RESULTS:
Of the total of 3757 participants included, 1887 (50.23%) were female, and the mean±standard deviation (SD) age was (70.0±8.3) years. The rate of depressive symptoms was 25.92%. The social health score was higher in non-depressed participants than in depressed participants (raw score 50.7 vs. 48.3, P<0.001). Participants with "moderate" or "good" social health had a significantly lower risk of depressive symptoms than those with "poor" social health (odds ratio (OR)=0.55, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.46-0.66 for moderate social health; OR=0.45, 95% CI: 0.35-0.60 for good social health). The association between social health and depressive symptoms was consistent across several subgroups.
CONCLUSIONS
Social health is significantly inversely associated with depressive symptoms. The SHSE may serve as an efficient screener to identify those elderly adults with social health deficits, but systematic assessment to guide intervention merits further investigation.
