Objective To study the preventive and therapeutic effect of dexamethasone on communicating hydrocephalus following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and explore the mechanism of communicating hydrocephalus following SAH. Methods SAH rat model was constructed by injecting auto blood through foramen magnum into subarachnoid space. There were two groups ( one control group and one experimental group) in this study with 16 rats each group. Sufficient doses of auto blood were injected into subarachnoid space of the rats of the control group and sufficient dose of auto blood together with sufficient dose of dexamethasone into subarachnoid space of the rats of the experimental group. The changes of rats transforming growth factor bata-1 (TGF-β_1 )in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)and thickness of pia mater collagen fibrosis( CF) following SAH were observed after 1 day and 20 days. The levels of TGF-β_1, in the CSF were quantitatively detected by the way of ABC-ELISA. The brain tissues were dyed through Massions technique, and then the average thicknesses of meningina CF were measured by the software of micrograph collection and analysis computer system. Results In later stage after SAH, TGF-β_1, concentrations of the experimental group was lower than control group( P <0. 01). At the same time, the average thicknesses of meningina CF of experimental groups was thinner than control group( P <0. 01). Moreover, the relationship between the level of TGF-β_1 in the CSF and the thickness of the CF of the rat's cerebral pia mate had positive correlation. Conclusions In the later stage after SAH, dexamethasone can inhibit the over expression of TGF-β_1 in rat CSF following SAH and also can inhibit the accrementition of rat collagenous fibers. Therefore, this study provided experimental and theoretical evidence for preventing and treating communicating hydrocephalus following SAH.

Super-selective transcatheter prostatic arterial embolization is a newly-developed minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia with good maneuverability, safety and fewer complications. The short-term and mid-term follow-up has proved that it has higher clinical efficacy in improving the quality of life by alleviating lower urinary tract symptoms. It emerges as an innovative technology in urology and interventional radiology. In order to ensure a successful procedure with satisfactory clinical outcome the most important considerations when performing prostatic arterial embolization are to precisely identify the prostatic artery, to correctly differentiate the anastomoses with surrounding arteries, and to properly select embolic agents. This paper aims to make a comprehensive review on the progress and current situation of prostatic arterial embolization with a focus on the clinical issues and technical challenges.

The acetabular fractures are technically challenging due to the deep location in the pelvis and low degree of exposure.Although the classic ilioinguinal approach could treat most anterior acetabulum fractures, the limited surgical field and difficulty in exposure is the main obstacle surgeons should overcome.Various approaches including extended approaches and combined anterior and posterior approaches ensure adequate exposure, but high rate of complications impede it from clinical use.The Stoppa approach has been favored by the orthopedic surgeons in recent years for the minimized surgical dissection and good exposure. It allows for extensive visualization of the pelvic brim and direct manipulation of quadrilateral plate. This approach is indicated in all anterior column and wall fractures, combined anterior column and posterior hemi-transverse fractures, selected both-column fractures, transverse and T-fractures.The utilization of the Stoppa approach developed along with the evolution of the relevant theory of acetabular fractures in the past years. The development such as the precise measurement of “safe zone” and the application of new apparatus could do great help in decreasing the complications and improving the surgical results. This article summarizes the relevant literatures and provides a review of the advances in the Stoppa approach in acetabular fractures.

The expression and possible role of integrin-focal adhesion kinase signal pathway in invasive pituitary adenomas were explored. Forty-nine human pituitary adenomas were detected for the expression of integrinbeta1 (INTbeta1) and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) by immunohistochemistry, and their correlation with the invasiveness of pituitary adenomas as well as between themselves was analyzed. The results showed that INTbeta1 was expressed in 46 cases (93.9%) and FAK in 36 cases (73.5%), respectively, and their expression levels were highly correlated with tumor invasiveness, but not with the tumor types. It was suggested that the integrin-focal adhesion kinase signal pathway plays a role in the invasiveness of pituitary adenomas.
