1.Sudden Cardiac Death of Incarcerated Prisoners:A Study of 75 Cases

Objective To investigate the characteristics and influencing factors leading to sudden cardiac death (SCD) of incarcerated prisoners. Methods Seventy-five SCD cases of prisoners between 2000 and 2013 in Henan province were collected, and environment, psychological and physical factors were retro-spectively analyzed. Combined with histopathological results, specific factors of SCD were also studied. Results In the 75 cases, 21 cases (28%) had definite chronic past medical histories, and 75 cases (100%) had cardiovascular disease confirmed by autopsy. Conclusion Due to presence of the potential cardiac diseases, special incarcerated environment, psychological stress, and body-restraint might be the precipitat-ing factors in SCD of those prisoners.

3.Expressions of glucose transporter 1 and 3 proteins are changing with blood glucose concentration in diabetic rat brain

Streptozotocin-induced diabetic model was prepared in Wistar rats and the blood glucose levels were controlled at 3 levels of<10,10-14 mmol/L or>16.7 mmol/L by insulin,and changes of glucose transporter(GLUT)1 and 3 protein expressions of brain were observed in control rats and diabetic rats with different blood glucose levels by immunohistochemistry.The results showed that chronic hyperglycemia could decrease the protein expressions of GLUT 1 and GLUT3.
4. ADAMTS9-AS1-SEMA3G affects the infiltration of immune cells in pancreatic cancer

ObjectiveThe mechanism that affects the infiltration of immune cells in pancreatic cancer has not yet been clarified. This study aims to investigate the lncRNA mRNA regulatory pathways that affect immune infiltration in pancreatic cancer.MethodsTCGA and GEO gene expression data were used to screen common differential lncRNAs. We perform survival analysis, target gene prediction, GO, KEGG enrichment analysis, immune infiltration analysis, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) on the selected differential lncRNAs to identify the relevant pathways of immune infiltration.ResultsThe pancreatic cancer patients with high expression of ADAMTS9 AS1 have a higher survival rate when compared to patients with low expression (P=0.010). The combined analysis of TCGA and GSE86436 revealed the difference and survival-related ADAMTS9 AS1. The functional prediction of ADAMTS9 AS1 was related to immunity. Using the TIMER database, the lncRNA affected the infiltration of immune cells in pancreatic cancer tissues. The clinical analysis was demonstrated that the ADAMTS9 AS1 was related to pathological grade. The target gene SEMA3G was screened by co-expression analysis using the IMMPORT database and TIMER database. Lastly, GSEA analysis of ADAMTS9-AS1 showed that the lncRNA was also related to tumor metabolism.ConclusionThese results indicate that ADAMTS9-AS1-SEMA3G is associated with the prognosis and immune invasion level of pancreatic cancer, which can provide a theoretical basis for subsequent genetic verification experiments and immune research.
5.Zinc-modified calcium silicate bioceramics coating and osteointegration

BACKGROUND:Zinc-modified calcium silicate (CaSiO3) bioceramics coating on the titanium surface prepared in preliminary experiments has good chemical stability and antibacterial property. OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of zinc-modified CaSiO3 bioceramics coating on osteointegration. METHODS:MC3T3-E1 cels were respectively cultured on the titanium with zinc-modified CaSiO3 bioceramics coating (experiment group), titanium with CaSiO3 bioceramics coating (control group) and pure titanium (blank control group). Then, cel adhesion, proliferation, calcification rate and the expression of type I colagen and osteocalcin were detected. The implant materials mentioned above were respectively inserted into the femurs of New Zealand white rabbits, and after 1.5 months, the osteoproliferation and osteointegration between the implants and the host were tested. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In vitro experiment: The number of adhesive cels at 12 hours after co-culture was significantly increased in the experimental group compared with the control group and blank control group (P < 0.05). At 14 days after co-culture, cel proliferation ability and ability of calcium nodule formation in the experiment group were significantly better than those in the other groups (P < 0.05). At 21 days after co-culture, there was no significant difference in the expression of type I colagen, but the expression of osteocalcin in the experiment group was higher than that in the control group and blank control group (P < 0.05).In vivo experiment: In the experiment group, a large amount of bone substances were detected, the coating materials directly contacted with the bone interface, new bone tissues and little fibrous tissues were observed at the interface. In contrast, there was a small amount of bone hyperplasia in the control group and almost no bone hyperplase in the blank control group. Moreover, a small part of the implant directly contacted with the bone interface and the most part was separated from bone trabeculae by fibrous tissues. These findings indicate that zinc-modified CaSiO3 bioceramics coating can enhance the ability of osteointegration between titanium implants and the host.
6.Laparoscopic nephroureterectomy for local renal pelvic carcinoma with poorly differentiated tumor:comparison with open nephroureterectomy

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and application value of retroperitoneal laparoscopic nephroureterectomy for localized and poor differentiated renal pelvic carcinoma by comparing with open nephroureterectomy.Methods Thirty-three pelvic carcinoma patients underwent radical nephroureterectomy were retrospeetively analyzed.All tumors were confirmed to be localized,stage T1-T3 and grade 3.Retroperitoneal laparoscopic nephroureterectomy was performed in 12 patients,the ureteral orifice was resected in traditional way through a small incision in lower abdomen.Open radical nephroureterectomy was performed in 21 cases.Clinical outcomes of the patients were compared between the 2 surgery groups.Results Mean operative time was 232 vs 212 min(P=0.100)and blood loss volume was 162 vs 233 ml(P=0.001)in the laparoscopic and open nephroureterectomy groups.Mean postoperative hospitalization was 7.6 vs 9.8 d(P<0.001)for the laparoscopic and open groups.During the followup for 7-67 months,all the 33 patients survived.There was no recurrence or metastasis in laparoscopic group.While there was 1 retroperitoneal recurrence,and 3 cases suffering from superficial bladder cancer in open surgery group.Conclnsion Retroperitoneal laparoscopic nephroureterectomy may be performed safely in local renal pelvic carcinoma patients with poor differentiated tumors,with less intraoperative blood loss and early recovery.
7.Influence of blood glucose on the expression of glucose trans-porter proteins 1 and 3 in the brain of diabetic rats.

BACKGROUNDThe delivery of glucose from the blood to the brain involves its passage across the endothelial cells of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which is mediated by the facilitative glucose transporter protein 1 (GLUT(1)), and then across the neural cell membranes, which is mediated by GLUT(3). This study aimed to evaluate the dynamic influence of hyperglycemia on the expression of these GLUTs by measuring their expression in the brain at different blood glucose levels in a rat model of diabetes. This might help to determine the proper blood glucose threshold level in the treatment of diabetic apoplexy.
METHODSDiabetes mellitus was induced with streptozotocin (STZ) in 30 rats. The rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: diabetic group without blood glucose control (group DM1), diabetic rats treated with low dose insulin (group DM2), and diabetic rats treated with high dose insulin (group DM3). The mRNA and protein levels of GLUT(1) and GLUT(3) were assayed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry, respectively.
RESULTSCompared with normal control rats, the GLUT(1) mRNA was reduced by 46.08%, 29.80%, 19.22% (P < 0.01) in DM1, DM2, and DM3 group, respectively; and the GLUT(3) mRNA was reduced by 75.00%, 46.75%, and 17.89% (P < 0.01) in DM1, DM2, and DM3 group, respectively. The abundance of GLUT(1) and GLUT(3) proteins had negative correlation with the blood glucose level (P < 0.01). The density of microvessels in the brain of diabetic rats did not change significantly compared with normal rats.
CONCLUSIONSChronic hyperglycemia downregulates GLUT(1) and GLUT(3) expression at both mRNA and protein levels in the rat brain, which is not due to the decrease of the density of microvessels. The downregulation of GLUT(1) and GLUT(3) expression might be the adaptive reaction of the body to prevent excessive glucose entering the cell that may lead to cell damage.

8.The digital criterion of the potential information characteristics of the traditional Chinese medicine chromatographic fingerprints.

AIMTo exploit the characteristic digital criterion for the potential information characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine chromatographic fingerprints, the 37 parameters such as F and I were firstly proposed to disclose the potential information characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine fingerprints.
METHODSThe HPLC fingerprints of the Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) , Ginkgo leaf extract and diphyridamole injection (GLEDI), Ixeris sonchifolia Hance (ISH) and Ixeris sonchifolia Hance injection (ISHI) were compared each other.
RESULTSAs far as the peak signal intensity, the uniform of peak signal, resolution and the fingerprint information were concerned. The GBE fingerprint was better than the GLEDI's, and the ISH fingerprint was also better than the ISHI's, then GBE fingerprint was close to the ISHI' s.
CONCLUSIONThe 37 parameters such as F and I can be used to objectively, authentically and thoroughly display the potential information characteristics of the traditional Chinese medicine chromatographic fingerprints.

9.Comparison of fixations with dynamic hip screw, percutaneous compression plate and proximal femoral nail anti-rotation for intertrochanteric femoral fractures with paries medialis defect

Objective To compare the effects of fixations with dynamic hip screw (DHS),percutaneous compression plate (PCCP) and proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA) for treatment of intertrochanteric femoral fractures with paries medialis defect.Methods We reviewed the 82 patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture and paries medialis defect who had been treated at our department from January 2011 to July 2016.They were 42 men and 40 women,aged from 27 to 91 years (average,73.0 years).According to the AO classification,72 cases belonged to type 31-A2.2,10 to type 31-A2.3.Of them,9 cases were treated with DHS,17 cases with PCCP and 56 cases with PFNA-1].The 3 groups were compared in terms of intraoperative blood loss,blood infusion,fluid infusion,operation duration,time for fracture union,postoperative complications and Functional Recovery Score (FRS) of the hip 12 months after operation.Results The fluid infusion [1,100 (850,1,100) mL] and intraoperative blood loss [60 (5,100) mL] in the PCCP group were significantly less than in the PFNA group [1,100 (1,000,1,700) mL and 150 (50,300) mL] and the operation duration (91.4 ± 29.2 min) in the former was significantly shorter than in the latter [121 (85,185) min] (P < 0.05).No significant difference was found between the 3 groups in blood infusion (P > 0.05).Of the patients,57 (8 DHS,12 PCCP and 37 PFNA ones) were followed up for an average of 47 months (from 15 to 85 months).There were no statistically significant differences between the 3 groups in time for fracture union,complications,or average FRS score of the hip 12 months after operation (P > 0.05).Conclusions For unstable intertrochanteric fractures with paries medialis defect,it is not clear that intramedullary nails are superior to extramedullary fixation.Intramedullary nails like PFNA may be suggested for patients with better preoperative conditions while extramedullary fixation like PCCP suggested for those with poor general conditions.
10.Extracellular ascorbic acid fluctuation during the protective process of ischemic preconditioning in rabbit renal ischemia-reperfusion model measured.

BACKGROUNDAscorbic acid has important antioxidant properties, and may play a role in the protective effects of ischemic preconditioning on later ischemia-reperfusion. Herein, we examined the role of endogenous extracellular ascorbic acid in ischemic preconditioning in the kidney.
METHODSWe developed a solitary rabbit kidney model where animals received ischemia-reperfusion only (ischemia-reperfusion group, n = 15) or ischemic preconditioning followed by ischemia-reperfusion (ischemic preconditioning group, n = 15). Ischemia-reperfusion was induced by occluding and loosening of the renal pedicle. The process of ischemic preconditioning included 15-minute brief ischemia and 10-minute reperfusion. In vivo microdialysis coupled with online electrochemical detection was used to determine levels of endogenous extracellular ascorbic acid in both groups. The extent of tissue damage was determined in kidney sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Serum creatinine and urea nitrogen were also detected to assess renal function.
RESULTSDuring ischemia-reperfusion, the extracellular ascorbic acid concentration during ischemia increased rapidly to the peak level ((130.01 +/- 9.98)%), and then decreased slowly to near basal levels. Similar changes were observed during reperfusion (peak level, (126.78 +/- 18.24)%). In the ischemic preconditioning group there was a similar pattern of extracellular ascorbic acid concentration during ischemic preconditioning. However, the ascorbic acid level was significantly lower during the ischemia and early reperfusion stage compared to the ischemia-reperfusion group. Additionally, the extent of glomerular ischemic collapse, tubular dilation, tubular denudation, and loss of brush border were markedly attenuated in the ischemic preconditioning group. Levels of serum creatinine and urea nitrogen were also decreased significantly in the ischemic preconditioning group.
CONCLUSIONSIschemic preconditioning may protect renal tissue against ischemia-reperfusion injury via use of extracellular ascorbic acid. In vivo microdialysis coupled with online electrochemical detection is effective for continuous monitoring extracellular ascorbic acid in the renal cortex.
