AIM: To compare the measurement of anterior chamber depth(ACD) inclusive of corneal thickness using intrao-cular lens(IOL) master and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) and evaluate the repeatability of each method.METHODS: Two consecutive measurements of ACD were prospectively performed using IOL master and UBM in 60 eyes in 60 individuals. Mean values were compared using the paired t test. For each individual, ACD measure-ments was performed 5 times to estimate the repeatability of each method by a coefficient of variation(CV).RESULTS: The mean ACD was 2.95±0.25mm with the IOL master and 2.96±0.22mm with the UBM. This diffe-rence was not statistically significant (P=0.631).The coefficient of variation (CV) was 0.56%±0.26% and 0.65%± 0.36% in IOL master and UBM, respectively.CONCLUSION: The mean ACD of IOL master was the same as UBM. The repeatability of IOL master is better than UBM.

Objective To investigate the expression of CD44V6 in thyroid neoplasms and its significance. Methods The expression of CD44V6 in paraffin-embeded thyoid carcinoma tissue from 100 patients (50 with lymph node metastasis,50 without) and 20 patients with thyroid adenoma was measured by immunohistochemistry staining. Results Positive expression of CD44V6 in the group of thyoid carcinoma was 72%, significantly higher than the group of thyroid adenoma.Positive expression of CD44V6 in the group of thyoid carcinoma with lymph node involvement was 90%,significantly higher than the group of thyoid carcinoma without lymph node involvement. In patients with different pathological grade, different clinical stage and different survival time, the positive expression of CD44V6 was significantly different. Conclusions The results suggest that CD44V6 can be regarded as an valuable molecular markers to distinguish benign thyroid tumor from malignant tumor, to predict lymph node metastasis and prognosis.

Flammulin, an anti-tumor protein, was purified from the aqueous extract of basidiomes of Flammulina Velutipes. Purified flammulin emulsified with Freund's adjuvant was injected subcutaneously into New Zealand white rabbits. After several immune enhancements, these animals were bled and sera were separated. Antiserum against flammulin in Western blots were applied to determine if flammulin be present in the liquid state culture or fruiting body. The result showed that anti-flammulin serum could recognize the aqueous extract of fruiting body in SDS-PAGE gels under the reducing conditions, no flammulin was detected in mycelia of Flammulina Velutipes.

-2,and T)was detected on exon 11 in the mutational analysis of GABRG2.Our results indicate that genomic variations of GABRG2 are not likely to be substantially involved in the etiology of GEFS+in this family. Conclusion Our study fails to provide evidence supporting a causal relation between the SCN1A,SCN1B, GABRG2 mutation and the etiologic genes in this family, which indicates that GEFS+has with phenotypic and genotypic heterogeneity.

Objective To compare the differences of surgical site infection (SSI) between laparoscopic distal gas-trectomy (LDG) and open distal gastrectomy (ODG) for gastric cancer. Methods We set up strict inclusion and ex-clusion criteria. All the randomized controlled trials (RCT) on LDG and ODG for gastric cancer were collected. Meta-analysis was performed according to the recommendation by the Cochrane handbook. Results Six RCTs in-cluding 767 patients were analyzed, who were divided into LDG group (n =394) and ODG group ( n=373). Postop-erative wound infection and SSI were significantly lower in LDG than in ODG [RR=0.32, 95 %Cl (0.11, 0.91).P =0.03; RR= 0.28, 95 %Cl (0.12, 0.70),P =0.006]. There was no significant difference in intra-abdominal abscess between the two groups [RR=0.35, 95 % Cl (0.09, 1.31), P=0.12]. Conclusions LDG was associated with a lower incidence of SSI, especially wound infection, as compared with ODG in the meta-analysis.

In this study, the variation of pharmacokinetics behavior of raltitrexed (RTX) in rats after repeatedly injected with Huangqi injection was investigated. Twelve SD rats were divided into two groups: the multidose group and the RTX group. Rats in multidose group were iv. injected with Huangqi injection (dose of 1.575 mL x kg(-1)) everyday at 8 am for a week, and had free accesses for food and water. The rats were fasted for food but not water since 8 h before the eighth day. At the eighth morning, firstly, rats were injected with Huangqi injection (dose of 1.575 mL x kg(-1)), and 5 min later, were injected with RTX (dose of 0.467 mg x kg(-1)); rats in RTX group were not disposed in the previous seven days, also had free accesses for food and water, and were iv. injected with raltitrexed at the same time as Multidose group at the eighth day morning. Rat plasma was collected at different time and processed with methanol to precipitate the protein before HPLC assays. The pharmacokinetics parameters for two groups were calculated by software 3P97. Through the observation of drug concentration in plasma and time curve, we found that at almost every time point the concentration of RTX in plasma in multidose group was lower than the RTX group. When comparing the pharmacokinetics parameters between the multidose group and the RTX group, the average of AUC(0-t) and half-life(t1/2) of multidose group were decreased from 56 080 microg x min x L(-1) and 15.07 min to 35 834 microg x min x L(-1) and 8.95 min, respectively, while the clearance (CL) was increased from 0.51 to 0.83 mL x h(-1). Therefore, it could be deduced that repeatedly injected with AR injection may influence the renal excretion and glycometabolism of RTX, thus change pharmacokinetics behavior of raltitrexed in rats plasma. This result may give us a hint to prudantly manage the drug combination of RTX and Huangqi injection.

Introduction:Neonatal tetanus is a major cause of neonatal mortality in many developing countries and remains a major public health problem. This study aimed to determine risk factors associated with neonatal tetanus in Wenzhou, China.Methodology:Medical records of neonatal tetanus cases from 17 hospitals over a 13-year period (2000–2012) were reviewed for potential risk factors. Controls were selected from neonates with diseases other than tetanus who were admitted to the same facility during the same period. The potential risk factors of the neonatal tetanus group were compared with the control group using univariate analysis and an unconditional logistic regression model. Results:A total of 246 neonates with tetanus and 257 controls were included in this study. Univariate analysis showed that having untrained birth attendants, home delivery, an unsterile method of delivery and being a migrant to Wenzhou were significantly different between the two groups (

Previous studies have suggested that various kinds of inflammatory factors can influence the formation and development of tumor cells.Researche has shown that gallbladder cancer is closely linked with local inflammation, which is a risk factor for the development of gallbladder cancer. It is widely known that cholecystitis is closely correlated with gallstones, and that bile obtained from patients with gallbladder cancer contains a large variety of bacteria, such as Salmonella typhi,Helicobacter, and Escherichia coli.It is proposed that the gallbladder may be the result of the joint action of inflammation with the bacterial flora.Similarly, the inflammatory “tumor infiltrating lymphocyte” (TIL)can be observed in the tumor and its surrounding tissues, and may also play a role in tumor growth and metastasis. However, detailed mechanisms about the relationship between inflammation and gallbladder cancer is still not clear. No specific anti-inflammatory drugs for gallbladder cancer have been developed. In the near future, anti inflammatory drugs may play a more important role in gallbladder cancer prevention and treatment.
