Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2013;(43):7618-7623
BACKGROUND:Ilizarov technique is an effective treatment method which can solve various complications that occurred in the process of treatment, especial y for the treatment of nonunion associated with soft tissue defects or severe infection. OBJECTIVE:To review the research progress of nonunion treatment with the Ilizarov technique. METHODS:A computer-based search was performed on the CNKI database and PubMed database from January 1992 to April 2013 for the articles related to the Ilizarov technology for the treatment of nonunion. The key words of“nonunion, external fixator, Ilizarov”in English and“nonunion, fracture nonunion, external fixation, Ilizarov”in Chinese were used to search the articles in the title and the abstract. Final y, a total of 37 articles were included to review. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Ilizarov technique is an effective method to treat limbs nonunion with the infection and severe bone defect. It has become an international y recognized gold standard. Due to the firmly fixation of the Ilizarov ring external fixator, it can not only eliminate the shear force and rotation stress, thus playing a role of stretch tension and compression, but also has the cyclical micro-axialmotion characteristic during weight-bearing walking which can better promote bone union. Based on the reviews of the research progress of Ilizarov technique in the treatment of nonunion in recent years, we further investigate the advantages and methods of Ilizarov technique in the treatment of limbs nonunion. The clinical application of the method should fol ow the individual principle, and then choose the best and suitable method based on the analysis of advantages and disadvantages about the patient’s condition.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between EGFR mutations and pulmonary tuberculosis in lung adenocarcino-ma. Methods:We detected EGFR mutations in 506 patients with lung adenocarcinoma by PCR amplification and sequencing and ana-lyzed the relationship between the mutations observed and pulmonary tuberculosis. Survival analysis was performed using the Ka-plan-Meier method with log-rank tests. Result:A total of 218 patients showed EGFR mutations;of these patients, 25 had a clinical his-tory of pulmonary tuberculosis. Compared with lung adenocarcinoma patients with no history of tuberculosis, patients with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis showed higher incidence rates of EGFR mutations, especially of exon 21 (P=0.047, P=0.002). Higher incidence rates of EGFR mutations, especially of exon 21, were observed in patients with lung cancer and tuberculosis in the same lobe or the same side of the lung than in those who had lung cancer and tuberculosis in opposite sides of the lung (P=0.02, P=0.03). Survival analy-sis showed that adenocarcinoma patients with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis have 2-year survival rates lower than that of adeno-carcinoma patients with no history of the disease (P=0.039). In patients adenocarcinoma associated with tuberculosis patients without EGFR-TKIs treatment, the 2-year survival rates of EGFR mutation patients and those without EGFR mutation showed no statistically significant difference (P=0.948). At the same time, we got the same results in adenocarcinoma associated with tuberculosis patients with EGFR-TKIs treatment (P=0.425). Conclusion:Lung adenocarcinoma patients with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis have high-er incidence rates of EGFR mutations, and EGFR mutations are not related to disease prognosis.

Flammulin, an anti-tumor protein, was purified from the aqueous extract of basidiomes of Flammulina Velutipes. Purified flammulin emulsified with Freund's adjuvant was injected subcutaneously into New Zealand white rabbits. After several immune enhancements, these animals were bled and sera were separated. Antiserum against flammulin in Western blots were applied to determine if flammulin be present in the liquid state culture or fruiting body. The result showed that anti-flammulin serum could recognize the aqueous extract of fruiting body in SDS-PAGE gels under the reducing conditions, no flammulin was detected in mycelia of Flammulina Velutipes.

Objective To explore the impact of the ratio between pelvic tilt (PT) and sacral slope (SS) on the life quality of patients with ankylosing spndylitis (AS) after kyphosis correction. Methods From November 2008 to May 2011, 33 AS pa?tients were reviewed, including 31 males and 2 females, aged from 19 to 58 years old (average, 36 years old). The thoracolumbar kyphosis angle was 35.23° ± 13.98° (range, 15.12°-74.37° ) and the lumbar lordosis angle was 8.68° ± 18.27° (range,-23.70°-62.15°). The Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)?22 questionnaire was used to evaluate the quality of life and the Oswestry disability index (ODI) was used to evaluate the condition of pain. The pelvic incidence (PI), PT, SS, sagittal vertical axis (SVA) and osteoto?my angle were obtained from standing lateral full?spine radiographs. The correlations were analyzed from the subjective grading and the sagittal parameters in AS patients. Results The osteotomy site was in L1 (5 cases, 21.00°-54.59° , average 32.59° ± 13.44° ), L2 (19 cases, 28.63°-66.24° , average 37.89° ± 9.26° ), L3 (9 cases, 31.78°-60.90° , average 47.05° ± 9.20° ), respectively. The range of osteotomy angle was 39.59°±10.82° (range, 21.00°-66.24°). The subjective grading and spino?pelvic parameters were improved significantly after operation except PI, only postoperative PT/SS (0.93±0.65) and ODI standing (0.60±0.75)(r=0.681, P<0.05), osteotomy angle (39.59°±10.82°) and satisfaction of management (3.33±0.49)(r=0.478, P<0.05)had correlation with the subjective grading. Conclusion Compared with the change of PT, SS and SVA, the change of PT/SS is more closely related to the quality of life after operation in AS patients with kyphosis, which should be pay attention to by surgeon when designing operative schemes.

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1957;0(04):-
Objective To investigate the biological characteristics of neural stem cells from the striatum of human embryos. Methods Neural stem cells were isolated from the striatum of 16-20 weeks human embryos. These cells were cultured to proliferate and then differentiate without mitogens or inductive factors. At various time points the progeny of neural stem cells differentiation were analyzed.Using immunocytochemistry stainings, the biological characteristics of neural stem cells were examined. Results Neural stem cells in the striatum of 16-20 weeks human embryos proliferated rapidly in vitro within the first one month of culture at an average doubling time of 3-4 days.Upon mitogen withdrawal, the differentiation of neural stem cells to neurons exceeded 50%.After 8 weeks in culture, however, the proliferation speed of neural stem cells lowered significantly. The proportion of neurons induced by mitogen removal was under 20%.There were about 20% of cells within neurosphere continue to divide. Conclusion The proliferation and self-renewal ability of neural stem cells in the striatum of 16-20 weeks human embryo is robust. In vitro, the rate of proliferation went down with time, and the ability of differentiation to multiple neural cells varied. The different mitogen factors in media have different effects on neural stem cell.Within neurospheres, neural stem cells are not homogenous,as only a portion of cells can divide.
