Objective To investigate the difference on postoperative hepatic functions between laparoscopic and conventional surgery for colorectal cancers. Methods In this prospective study, a laparoscopic group ( n =20) was compared with an open group ( n =20). Blood samples were obtained at 1, 24, 48, and 72 hours postoperation respectively to perform liver function tests, including total bilirubin (TBil), albumin (Alb), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (?-GT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Results Of the both groups, serum Alb and ALP levels decreased, and TBil and GGT levels remained unchanged. Postoperative ALT and AST levels transiently increased by threefold and returned to near baseline levels at 72 hours. There was no postoperative liver failure or mortality in both groups. Conclusions Laparoscopic colorectal surgery results in postoperative elevation of hepatic transaminases but does not adversely alter hepatic functions to any greater extent than open colorectal surgery.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of expressional chimeric faces on the attentional bias in unilateral spatial neglect (USN) patients.Methods12 USN patients and 30 matched healthy controls (HC) were involved in this study. All of them were performed with happy-neutral and sad-neutral expressional chimeric faces (ECF) and the attentional deviation scores were compared between and within groups.ResultsThere were statistically significant differences of attentional deviation scores ( happy-neutral ECF:t =15.550,P < 0.0l ; sadneutral ECF:t=12.192,P<0.01 ) between the USN group (happy-neutral ECF:0.78 ±0.22;sad-neutral ECF:0.50 ±0.20) and the HC group (happy-neutral ECF:-0.31 ±0.20;sad-neutral ECF:-0.25 ±0.17),with rightward bias in the USN group and small leftward bias in the HC group. For the USN group, the magnitude of rightward bias in the sad-neutral ECF condition was reduced than in the happy-neutral ECF condition ( t =3.954,P=0.002 ).There were no statistically differences under happy-and sad-neutral ECF conditions within the HC group ( t =- 1.302,P =0.203 ).ConclusionsUSN patients show rightward attentional bias under both happyand sad-neutral ECF conditions. However, the magnitude of rightward bias under the sad-neutral ECF condition are reduced significantly. This might be attributed to the unconscious processing of stimuli in the neglected side and emotion cognition of the brain hemispheres.

AIM: To investigate the changes of first order kernel ( FOK ) and second order kernel ( SOK ) of multifocal electroretinogram( mf-ERG) in detecting the early retinal abnormalities in sub-clinical stage of diabetic retinopathy. ·METHODS: Totally 32 patients ( 58 eyes ) with type 2 diabetes mellitus ( DM ) without apparent diabetic retinopathy( DR) were detected by mf-ERG, from June 2014 to May 2015. Thirty cases ( 60 eyes ) of normal control group had also been taken to compare the difference of the amplitude and latency between the two groups. ·RESULTS: Compared with the control group: there was no statistical difference in the FOK b-wave latency of the diabetic group, and the FOK b-wave amplitude was significantly decreased (t=3. 099, P=0. 012). The SOK b-wave latency in diabetes group was statistically delayed (t=2. 643, P=0. 025), and the SOK b-wave amplitude statistically decreased (t=4. 833, P<0. 01). There was no statistically difference in the a-wave latency and amplitude of FOK and SOK. The b-wave amplitude of FOK and SOK was negatively correlated with the course of the disease. However, the b-wave amplitude was not statistically correlated with the duration of diabetes mellitus. ·CONCLUSION: The function of the post-polar outer and inner retina detected by FOK and SOK had been damage even before retinopathy. The anomaly is mainly reflected by the decreasing amplitude of b-wave.

Objective To explore neglect dyslexia in unilateral spatial neglect patients, the error type and whether there exists word length and semantic effect. Methods Ten left spatial neglect patients were investigated by Chinese characters reading material. Results Unilateral spatial patients showed neglect dyslexia (202 neglect errors,94.0% of the total 215 errors) when reading. The most common errors were omissions (148 errors,73.3% of the total 202 neglect errors),followed by substitutions and additions. The error rate of two words was 9.9% ± 8.4%,while the rate of three words was 18.8% ± 16.2%.Performance was worse with the increase of word length (T =-55,P < 0.05).The error rate of words was 8.3% ± 7.5%,while the rate of non-words was 18.9% ± 16.6%,and the rate of non-words was worse than that of words (T =-55,P < 0.05).Conclusions Our study has shown that omissions are the most common error type of neglect dyslexia in Chinese unilateral spatial neglect patients, and the impairment include word length effect. The patients with unilateral spatial neglect show preserved semantic processing in the neglect side.

AIM: To determine the effects of NF-?B on the development of rat pancreatic fibrosis mediated by angiotensin II. METHODS: Spraque-Dawley rats (200-300g) were randomly divided into normal group, control group and losartan-treatment group. Pancreatic fibrosis was induced by injection of 2% TNBS into biliopancreatic duct. Rats in losartan-treatment group and control group were respectively treated with losartan (10 mg?kg~(-1)?d~(-1)) by gavage and the same volume of saline vehicle. The expression, distribution, and activation of NF-?B were studied by Western blot, immunohistochemistry and TransAM~(TM). Toluidine blue staining and transmission electron microscopy were also used to observe the number, distribution and degranulation of mast cells. In addition, RT-PCR was performed to detect the intrapancreatic ICAM-1 mRNA expression. RESULTS: The expression and activity of intrapancreatic NF-?B p65 protein were significantly increased on day 3 after operation, reaching peak on day 7 [(0.406?0.086) mg/g total protein]. Mast cell activation was observed and ICAM-1 mRNA levels on day 3 and 7 were up-regulated in control group. Losartan treatment inhibited NF-?B expression and activation, reduced mast cell infiltration and degranulation and decreased ICAM-1 mRNA expression compared with control rats. CONCLUSION: It might be associated with the expression and activation of NF-?B that angiotensin II mediates inflammation and fibrosis in the early stage of pancreatic fibrosis. [

BACKGROUND:Many scholars researched the biomechanics of middle clavicle fracture plate fixation, but little researched the plate position. OBJECTIVE:To observe the biomechanical characteristics ofanterior and superior plates for clavicle fracture with three-dimensional finite element models. METHODS:Three-dimensional finite element models of clavicle fracture with anterior and superior plates were established. The stress after anterior and superior plate fixation was analyzed. The maximum stress and displacement of plate fixation for clavicular fracture were observed under compression, torsion and three-point bending. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) In the compressed condition, the maximum stressand maximum fracture displacement were similar between the superior and anterior plate fixation (P> 0.05). (2) Under clockwise twist condition, the maximum stress and maximum fracture displacement were smaler in the superior plate fixation group than inthe anterior plate fixation group (P< 0.05). (3) Under counterclockwise twist condition, the maximum stress and maximum fracture displacement were similar between the anterior and superior plate fixation groups (P> 0.05). (4) Under three-point bending condition, the maximum stress was similar between the superior and anterior plate fixation groups (P> 0.05). The maximum fracture displacement was bigger in the superior plate fixation group than in the anterior plate fixation group (P< 0.05). (5) These findings suggest that superior fixation of clavicle fracture reconstruction plate has more advantages than the anterior plate fixation.

Objective To explore the role of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor ?(PPAR ?) in angiogenesis in human pancreatic carcinoma with reference to the regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Methods Expression of PPAR ? in SW1990 pancreatic carcinoma cells was examined by RT PCR and immunocytochemical staining. Secretion of VEGF by SW1990 cells, treated by 15 deoxy delta(12,14) prostaglandin J 2(15d PGJ 2), the ligand of PPAR ? and, 9 cis retinoic acid(9 cis RA) the ligand of retinoic X receptor(RXR)?, at different concentrations and durations, was detected by semi quantitative RT PCR. Effects of Rosiglitazone, a selective PPAR ? activator, on the changes of microvascular density (MVD) and VEGF expression were investigated in 30 SW1990 cell xenografted nude mice, among which 15 were in the treatment group (drank a solution of Rosiglitazone at the dose of 10 ?mol?kg -1 ?d -1 ) and 15 in the control group. Neovasculature was detected using immunohistochemistry staining labeled with anti Ⅳ collagen antibody and indicated by MVD. Results RT PCR and immunocytochemical staining showed that PPAR ? mRNA and protein were expressed in the SW1990 cell line. Semi quantitative RT PCR demonstrated that the combination of 15d PGJ 2 and 9 cis RA had a potent inhibitory effect on the expression of VEGF in SW1990 cells in both dose and time dependent manners. In vivo study, the MVD was statistically decreased in Rosiglitazone treated mice (10.67?3.07) compared with that in the control group (31.44?6.06) ( P
