Objective To explore epicanthus correction by transverse incision method and concurrent double-eyelid incision operation.Methods The transverse straight-line incision was performed in new inner canthus to the original canthal corner point; after the original inner canthus corner point was reached,the oblique-line parallel incision was performed along the lower eyelid so that full subcutaneous separation was obtained on the upper and lower incision; the malpositioned isomerous orbicular muscle and thickened tissue were released and excised so that the epicanthus skin was naturally restored; the superficial head of the inner canthus ligament was folded and sutured when necessary ; after small cat ears at the temporal side of the inner canthal incision was removed,routine double eyelid plasty was then performed,but the double eyelid and the inner canthus incisions were not continuous.Results The procedures were clinically applied in 258 cases and followed up for 3-18 months,showing that the epicanthus has disappeared,new inner canthus was in good appearance,the scar was not obvious,recurrence of the epicanthus was not found and double eyelids were beautiful in appearance.Conclusions The epicanthus correction by transverse incision and concurrent double-eyelid plasty is a simple and ideal approach for correction of single-edged eyelid with epicanthus and it is worthy of clinical promotion.

Objective To explore the effects of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) on learning and memory ability and activities of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT),acetylcholinesterase (AchE),acetylcholine (Ach) in the frontal,temporal,hippocampal area of the aged rat.Methods Forty 24-month-old male SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=10,each group):control group,solvent group (intraperitoneal injection with equal volumes of DMSO),low-dose group (intraperitoneal injection with equal volumes of DHEA,1 mg/kg),and high-dose group (intraperitoneal injection with equal volumes of DHEA,5 mg/kg).The activities of ChAT,AchE,and Ach were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method.Learning and memory ability was detected by Morris water maze test.Results The levels of ChAT in frontal,temporal and hippocampal area were (118.5±1.3) U/mg,(120.6±1.5) U/mg,(130.8±1.5) U/mg,respectively in control group,(i39.5±1.6) U/mg,(137.4±1.4) U/mg,(141.46±1.9) U/mg,respectively in high-dose group,(131.8±1.9) U/mg,(132.4±1.2) U/mg,(139.9±1.3) U/mg,respectively in low-dose group.The levels of AchE in frontal,temporal and hippocampal area were (0.5±0.0) U/mg,(0.4±0.0) U/mg,(0.5±0.0) U/mg,respectively in control group,(0.4±0.0) U/mg,(0.4±0.0) U/mg,(0.4±0.0) U/mg,respectively in high-dose group,and (0.4±0.0) U/mg,(0.4±0.0) U/mg,(0.4±0.0) U/mg,respectively in low-dose group,and (0.5±0.0)U/mg.The Ach levels in frontal,temporal and hippocampal area were (26.0±0.8) U/mg,(24.5±1.4) U/mg,(30.1±0.8) U/mg respectively in control group,(28.7±0.9) U/mg,(28.9±1.3) U/mg,(35.9±1.4) U/mg,respectively in high-dose group,and (27.6±0.1) U/mg,(28.0±1.1) U/mg,(34.2± 1.0) U/mg,rcspectively in low dose group.The activities of ChAT in frontal,temporal and hippocampal area were higher in DHEA treatment group than in control group (P＜0.05).The activities of AchE in frontal,temporal and hippocampal area were much lower in DHEA treatment group than in control group (P＜ 0.05).The Ach levels in frontal,temporal and hippocampal area were much higher in DHEA treatment group than in control group (P＜0.05).There were significant differences in the activities of ChAT and AchE and Ach levels between low-dose group and high-dose group (P＜0.05).Compared with control group,the activities of ChAT and AchE and Ach levels had no significant differences in solvent group (P＞0.05).The escape latency was shorter in low-dose group and high-dose group than in control group (P＜0.05,P＜0.01,respectively),and there was a significant difference in escape latency between low-dose group and high dose group (P＜ 0.05).Conclusions DHEA administration can significantly increase the activity of cholinergic system,and improve the learning and memory ability in aged SD rats.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical outcomes of anterior corpectomy combined with anterior intervertebral decompression and fusion for multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy.

METHODSThe clinical data of 28 patients with multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy who underwent surgery from October 2012 to June 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 18 males and 10 females, aged from 45 to 77 years old with an average of (60.11±9.37) years. Three levels were involved in 27 cases, while four levels were involved in 1 case. The preoperative JOA score was 8.89±1.87; the fusion segments angles was (4.87±4.56)°; and the cervical curvature was (11.68±1.25)°. Anterior hybrid decompression and fusion were performed in 28 patients. The fusion segments angles and the cervical curvature were assessed by X-rays at 1, 12 months after operation, respectively. JOA score was used to evaluate the clinical effect.

RESULTSThe operative time was 163 min on average (ranged from 120 to 205 min), and intraoperative bleeding was 198 ml on average(ranged from 100 to 300 ml). Hoarseness occurred in 1 case and got recovery at 3 weeks after operation and choke cough occurred in 1 case, and got improvement at 1 week after operation. All the patients were regularly followed for 12-24 months with an average of(18.46±3.20) months. Graft bone obtained fusion at 12 months after operation and the position of internal fixation was good. The fusion segments angles, the cervical curvature and JOA scores were significantly improved at 1, 12 months after operation(<0.05). The improvement rate of JOA score was(46.46±20.26)% at 12 months after operation, 12 cases got excellent results, 14 good and 2 fair.

CONCLUSIONSAnterior corpectomy combined with anterior intervertebral decompression and fusion is safe and effective and can get satisfactory effects for multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy.

OBJECTIVETo compare the clinical effect on motor impairment after elbow operation between electroacupuncture combined with rehabilitation and rehabilitation training.

METHODSFifty-three cases were randomized into an electroacupuncture combined with rehabilitation group (group A, 30 cases) and a rehabilitation group (group B, 23 cases). In group A, electroacupuncture was applied on the stiff region of the elbow and Sanjian (LI 3), Shousanli (LI 10), Hegu (LI 4), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Yinlingquan (SP 9) as adjunctive acupoints. Additionally, the passive movement was followed in the elbow joint after needles removed. In group B, the constant passive movement exercise was applied. The therapeutic effect was observed after 1.5 months of treatment. Mayo Elbow Performance Score (Mayo) and range of motion (ROM) were analyzed statistically after treatment in two groups.

RESULTSMayo score and elbow ROM were all improved significantly after treatment in two groups (all P < 0.01). Compared with group B after treatment, the total Mayo score, joint motion range and ability as well as elbow ROM were all improved much apparently in group A (all P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONCompared with rehabilitation therapy, electroacupuncture in combination of rehabilitation training can achieve much significant effect on the motion function recovery of elbow joint after fracture operation.

METHODSHeart rate variability was used as the target function to study the smoothly respiratory relaxation procedure in order to acquire the common pattern of regular and slow breathing.

RESULTSMusic based on the acquired common pattern was created and a musical pattern temporally-related to the breathing movement monitored by a sensor could be chosen to guide the breathing interactively.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of multi-plane Hyaluronic acid (HA) injection for rhinoplasty.

METHODSThe HA was injected below or above the periosteum at the nasal bone, above the perichondrium at the cartilage portion of nose, and between the great alar cartilage at the nasal tip. The HA volume was 1-1.5 ml, according to the nose form and aesthetic assessment. Over-injection was not permitted. Touch-up injection could be performed one week after the first injection if need.

RESULTSFrom Jan. 2010 to Jan. 2012, 60 cases underwent rhinoplasty with HA injection. The patients were followed up for 10-13 months with satisfactory result. The effect lasted about 9 months with the longest period as 12 months and the shortest period as 6 months.

CONCLUSIONSGood results can be achieved with multi-plane HA injection for rhinoplasty.

Objective To investigate the effect of Tetramethylpyrazin ( TMP) combined with cisplatin( DDP) on expression of a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin typeⅠmotif ( ADAMTS1 ) and vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF ) of Lewis lung cancer rats.Methods The Lewis lung carcinoma model of c57 bl/6 were produced by intraperitoneal injection of Lewis lung cancer cells in right axillary, per 0.2 mL.Then the 56 tumor-bearing mice were randomized into 4 groups: model group ( 0.9%NaCl, 0.2 mL ) , TMP group ( 100 mg· kg-1, 0.2 mL),DDP group(2 mg· kg -1, 0.2 mL),TMP+DDP group( doses as above, n=14).Different administration were served from day 5 transplantation and all mice were sacrificed after 19 days.The weight and volume of transplanted tumors were recorded.And the expressions of VEGF and ADAMTS1 were detected by immunhistochem-isty.Results Compared with model group, the growth of transplanted tumors in TMP group, DDP group, TMP+DDP group were significantly inhibited.The weight of tumor body in the three groups were markedly lower than that of model group.The inhibitory effect of TMP combined with DDP on tumor growth was enhanced com-pared with TMP or DDP alone treatment.The expression levels of VEGF were significantly lower but ADAMTS1 was sig-nificantly higher in TMP group,DDP group,TMP+DDP group than that in model group ( P<0.05 ).Pearson correla-ted analysis showed that the expression VEGE and ADAMTS1 negatively correlated(P<0.05).Conclusion TMP has synergetic inhibitory effect with DDP on transplanted tumor growth of Lewis lung carcinoma in mice.The action mecha-nism may be due to down-regulate the VEGF expression and up-regulate the ADAMTS1 expression,inhibiting tumor angiogenesis.

Shigella flexneri is an infectious pathogen that causes dysentery to human, which remains a serious threat to public health, particularly in developing countries. In this study, the global protein expression patterns of S. flexneri during transition from exponential growth to stationary phase in vitro were analyzed by using 2-D PAGE combined with MALDI-TOF MS. In a time-course experiment with five time points, the relative abundance of 49 protein spots varied significantly. Interestingly, a putative outer membrane protein YciD (OmpW) was almost not detected in the exponential growth phase but became one of the most abundant proteins in the whole stationary-phase proteome. Some proteins regulated by the global regulator FNR were also significantly induced (such as AnsB, AspA, FrdAB, and KatG) or repressed (such as AceEF, OmpX, SodA, and SucAB) during the growth phase transition. These proteins may be the key effectors of the bacterial cell cycle or play important roles in the cellular maintenance and stress responses. Our expression profile data provide valuable information for the study of bacterial physiology and form the basis for future proteomic analyses of this pathogen.

OBJECTIVETo explore the treatment outcomes of obese type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) after laparoscopic gastric bypass.

METHODSThe clinical data of 18 patients with obese T2DM who underwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in Beijing Shijitan Hospital between March 2009 and February 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical parameters included preoperative and postoperative blood glucose, blood lipid, nutrition status and weight lose.

RESULTSEighteen patients included 8 men and 10 women. The range of age was 27-62 years (mean, 42.4±10.7 years). The range of BMI was 28.7-57.4 kg/m(2)(mean, 34.9±6.9 kg/m(2)). All the patients underwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and no mortality, complication or conversion to open operation occurred. At 3 months after operation, there were significant changes in OGTT, BMI, HbA1c, Homa-IR and Homa-β(all P<0.05). Fourteen patients(77.8%) showed clinical complete remission, and the overall effective rate was 100%(18/18). The level of blood lipid decreased significantly (P<0.05), and the change of nutritional status was not statistically significant(P>0.05).

CONCLUSIONGastric bypass is an effective treatment for obese type 2 diabetes mellitus.
