1.Persistent Gingival Swelling and Fistula Obscured Horizontal Root Fracture:A Case Report
Journal of Korean Dental Science 2022;15(2):147-151
Horizontal root fracture (HRF) is a result of trauma to teeth and periodontium, which implies severe injury to cementum, dentin, and pulp. This is a rare case of HRF in the maxillary lateral incisor of a 62-year-old male who only presented persistent gingival swelling, fistula, and dull pain at first. An apical radiolucency of unknown origin turned out to be a result of hidden HRF at the coronal third level that was later visualized radiographically during endodontic treatment. The tooth was scheduled to be extracted upon the patient’s agreement. The purpose of this report is to alert clinicians about the importance of diagnosing HRF through thorough clinical and radiographic examinations. Where there is persistent fistula without proper cause, HRF should be considered as a causative factor, and the diagnosis could be effective with aid of cone beam computed tomography, electronic root apex locator, as well as other clinical signs.

Journal of the Korean Dietetic Association 2004;10(3):356-363
This study was to investigate the trial status of weight control with internet. A survey was carried out by self-questionnaires with 500 female university students in Seoul. The average height, weight, and PIBW(Percentage of Ideal Body Weight) of subjects were 162.2+/-4.8cm, 51.9+/-6.1kg and 93.7+/-11.0%. It appeared that 50.6% of subjects were abnormal range of body weight : in particular 43.4% of the subjects were underweight. While 80.7% of subjects have deeply interested in weight control, 63.4% of them have attempted diet. It showed that 92.9% of subjects used internet, 54.3 % of them knew internet diet site, however only 39 of subjects used internet diet program. Most subjects used internet diet program in order to acquire diet information. According to PIBW, the overweight group is higher frequency of joining internet diet program than the others group. Therefore, education of weight control was needed with internet in abnormal weight group.

Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 1999;38(3):604-612
OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to investigate 1) the difference of the immune function between schizophrenic patients and healthy normal control:2) the correlation between the severity of symptoms and immune functions in schizophrenia:and 3) the differences between the positive and negative symptom group of schizophrenia and conrols, respectively. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The subjects were thirty patients who met the DSM-IV criteria for schizophrenia and had undergone 2 weeks of drug free period before this study. Thirty-two healthy young adults were recruited for control. The following immunological functions were observed in the patients on admission and the normal control at the same day: WBC count, lymphocyte subpopulations(T cell, B cell, CD4+ cell, CD8+ cell, CD4+/CD8+ cell ratio), natural killer(NK) cell count and percentage, serum immunoglobulin levels(Ig G, Ig A, Ig M), total hemolytic complement activity(CH50). The schizophrenic patients were classified into positive and negative symptom group by Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS) on the sampling day. The severity of symptoms was assessed by using the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale(BPRS) in each day of immunological examinations. RESULTS: No significant difference was observed by measuring several immunological fuctions from schizophrenic patients and normal controls. A significant positive correlation was established between symptom severity and Ig A, the number and percentage of total lymphocyte. In contrast a negative correlation between symptom severity and number of CD8+ cell was found. In the positive symptom group, the percentage of T cell and number of CD8+ cell were significantly reduced and Ig M level increased as compared to normal controls. In the negative symptom group, number and percentage of NK cell were decreased as compared to controls. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that alterations in immune system in schizophrenia do not appear to be a specific biological correlate of this disorder, but, rather, may be associated to severity of symptoms and homogenous symptom subgroup. Also more specific marker of immune function for the homogenous patients group will be required to assess some identified changes of immune system in schizophrenia.

4.The Relationship of Eating Habits and Trigger Foods to Symptom Severity of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Journal of Korean Biological Nursing Science 2015;17(4):297-305
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate eating habits and the frequency of trigger-food consumption in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and to examine the associations of these variables with IBS symptom severity. METHODS: We included 145 ROME III-positive IBS patients (mean age 31.2 years, 73.8% of female). Subjects completed an eating-habits and food- consumption questionnaire, IBS-Symptom Severity Scale (IBS-SSS) and Brief Symptom Inventory-18 (BSI-18) for psychological distress. RESULTS: Subjects with unhealthy eating-habits such as irregular meal times, frequently eating out and overeating tended to show higher IBS symptom severity. The severity of IBS symptoms related to the frequency of the consumption of trigger foods. Subjects who ate trigger-foods (i.e., tofu, beans, almonds, and peanuts) less frequently showed higher IBS symptom severity (p=.045, .042, .016, and .019, respectively). However, subjects who ate spicy foods, instant foods, and noodles more frequently experienced more severe IBS symptoms (p=.018, .011, and .023 respectively). CONCLUSION: This study showed that IBS symptom severity was related to meal intake patterns and frequency of trigger food consumption. These findings could provide a basis for developing an intervention program for IBS patients.

5.Preoperative Nutritional Management of Patients with Morbid Obesity.
Journal of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery 2016;5(2):53-61
Since patients with morbid obesity undergoing bariatric surgery are vulnerable to micronutrient deficiencies, close monitoring and supplementation are necessary. The importance of screening prior to surgery has increased in recent studies; preoperative screening is recommended for thiamine, vitamin B12, vitamin D and calcium, vitamin A, E, K, folic acid, and iron. Though preoperative weight loss (PWL) of more than 10% excess body weight may be beneficial for postoperative weight loss and shorter operative time, insurance-mandated PWL before bariatric surgery is not evidence-based, unsafe, and therefore strongly discouraged. Very-low-calorie diet (VLCD) in liquid form is recommended as a safe and effective way to lose weight preoperatively. Also, screening and correction of eating disorder and psychiatric problems prior to surgery contribute to better outcome.

Korean Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine 2020;28(1):1-7
Objectives:
:The purpose of this study was to explore comparison of clinical characteristics among Anxiety disorder, Depressive disorder, and Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder.
Methods:
:Since January, 2017 to May, 2019, patients were recruited from the department of psychiatry of Hanyang University Guri Hospital. Participants were diagnosed Anxiety disorder, Depressive disorder, and Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder using DSM-5 criteria by board certified psychiatrists or clinical psychologists. And each of participants tested with MMPI-2 and clinical psychologists were converted MMPI-2 to MMPI-2-RF. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0.
Results:
:The results indicated EID, RC2, HLP, SAV, and INTR-r were the highest in Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder group. And BXD, RC4, JCP, and AGGR-r were the highest in Depressive disorder group.
Conclusions
:The results indicated that Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder group were more severe internalizing dysfunction like lower positive emotion, helplessness, social avoidance and discomfort than single-diagnosed group. Single Depressive disorder group were more serious externalizing dysfunction like anger and aggression than single Anxiety disorder and Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder. The implications and limitations were discussed.
7.Social Connectedness and Cognitive Function Before and During COVID-19: A Longitudinal Study of Korean Older Adults With an Instrumental Variable Regression
Psychiatry Investigation 2023;20(4):325-333
Objective:
We estimate the causal effect of social connectedness (i.e., the frequencies of meeting with friends, relatives, or neighbors) on cognitive function (the Korean version of Mini-Mental State Exam) among Korean older adults.
Methods:
We used longitudinal panel data collected before and during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) to set up the fixed (FE) or random effect (RE) models. To overcome omitted variable bias or reverse causality, we used COVID-19 pandemic period as an instrumental variable to estimate the causal effect of social connectedness on cognitive function.
Results:
Social distancing measures during the COVID-19 period decreased social interaction. The results showed that an increase in the frequency of social interaction led an increase in cognitive scores. Specifically, an increase of one unit in the frequency of meeting familiar people increased cognitive scores by 0.1470 and 0.5035 in the RE and FE models, respectively.
Conclusion
Social distancing policies due to the global pandemic may have increased the risk of social isolation and cognitive decline among older adults. The government and local communities need to increase their effort to develop way to connect adults through the remainder of the pandemic and beyond.
8.Estimation of the number of working population at high-risk of COVID-19 infection in Korea
Epidemiology and Health 2020;42(1):e2020051-
OBJECTIVES:
We aimed to identify occupational groups at high-risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection in Korea, to estimate the number of such workers, and to examine the prevalence of protective resources by employment status.
METHODS:
Based on the sixth Standard Occupational Classification codes, 2015 census data were linked with data from the fifth Korean Working Conditions Survey, which measured how frequently workers directly come into contact with people other than fellow employees in the workplace.
RESULTS:
A total of 30 occupational groups, including 7 occupations from the healthcare and welfare sectors and 23 from other sectors, were classified as high-risk occupational groups involving frequent contact with people other than fellow employees in the workplace (more than half of the working hours). Approximately 1.4 million (women, 79.1%) and 10.7 million workers (46.3%) are employed in high-risk occupations. Occupations with a larger proportion of women are more likely to be at a high-risk of infection and are paid less. For wage-earners in high-risk occupations, protective resources to deal with COVID-19 (e.g., trade unions and health and safety committees) are less prevalent among temporary or daily workers than among those with permanent employment.
CONCLUSIONS
Given the large number of Koreans employed in high-risk occupations and inequalities within the working population, the workplace needs to be the key locus for governmental actions to control COVID-19, and special consideration for vulnerable workers is warranted.
9.Metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma in the maxilla and temporal bone: a rare case report
Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 2021;47(3):224-228
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common, primary malignant liver disease that usually metastasizes to the lungs, followed by the abdominal lymph nodes and brain. However, extrahepatic metastasis to the maxillofacial area is uncommon and predominates in the mandible, so HCCs in the maxilla or temporal bone from a primary hepatic lesion are extremely rare. We present a case of HCC in the maxilla and temporal bone in a 52-yearold male, which was first suspected to be a squamous cell carcinoma after computed tomography but was confirmed as a metastasis related to his primary HCC after fine-needle aspiration biopsy followed by immunohistochemical analysis.
