No. Ⅱ fluorocarbon blood substitute in divided doses was infused into the rats in a 12-day-period. Pathomorphological changes of the various organs of the animals were observed dynamically in the first year after the completion of the infusion. Fluorocarbon particles mainly accumulated in the organs with abundant reticulo-endothelial tissue particularly the liver and spleen. The changes of the weight of the liver and spleen and the existence of foam cells could be considered as the criteria to indicate the severity of the accumulation. It was found that at the end of the first year after the completion of No. Ⅱ fluorocarbon blood substhue infusion, the liver and spleen essentially resumed their normal weight but a small number of foam cells still existed, However, accumulated fluorocarbon particles exerted no harmful effects on the functions and structures of the organs observed.

Objective To investigate and analyze whether the different types of radial head fracture and internal fixations have influence on the out comeof elbow function after surgery. Methods We reviewed the clinical data of 46 cases of radial head fractures from August 2002 to December 2008, 34 males, and 12 females, aged from 19 to 51years. All these cases underwent open reduction and internal fixation including fixation with Kirschner wire fixation, mini-plate and/or screw fixation and radial head resection. Results Forty-six cases were followed up in this study for a period of 8 months to 4 years (mean 2 yeats and 4 months).According to Mayo assessment of elbow function, the results of 35 cases were excellent or good (35/46 cases, 76.1%). Better function recovery was got in those who were preferred mini-screw internal fixation or combined with mini-plate. The same results were also found in those with Mason type Ⅱ fracture and in those underwent surgery within 2 weeks. Conclusions Good results can be got through surgical treatment as the indication of open reduction is clear, especially in cases with radial head fracture of Mason type Ⅱ and Ⅲ.The type of radial head fracture, the method of internal fixation and the timing of surgery all affect the outcome.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2004;21(6):935-938
In the interactive image-guided thermotherapy, we need the real time image and location of the target tumor. But the current mono-modal imaging technique can not do it. We present a method to register a preoperative 3D MRI volume to a set of intra-operative ultrasound images for the target localization of the liver tumor in the thermotherapy. The registration method is a genetic algorithm based on the features such as liver surface vessels and liver surface.

Objective To explore the common causes of epilepsy and the etiologic characteristics in different age groups of patients with epilepsy. Methods A retrospective survey was made in 5572 epilepsy patients in Epileptic Center of Guangdong 999 Brain Hospital from January 2003 to December 2009.According to the diagnostic criteria published in 2005 from ILAE,all the diagnoses of 5572 cases were made by epileptic specialists.Based on history, cranial MRI or CT and pathologic data, causes of epilepsy were classified into idiopathic, symptomatic and cryptogenic epilepsy. The cases of symptomatic epilepsy were further arranged into different categories in different age grades, such as head trauma, perinatal injuries, infection in central nervous system, cerebral vascular disease, brain tumor, disorders of cortical development, neurocutaneous syndrome and others. The cases with febrile seizures and family history were collected, and positive ratio of febrile seizures and family history were contrasted in different categories of cases by Kruskal-Wallis test ( nonparametric test ).Results In 5572 cases,66 were idiopathic,2834 symptomatic,2672 cryptogenic, and the ratio of these causes was 1%,51%,48% respectively.Among 2834 cases of symptomatic epilepsy,822 were head trauma,497 were perinatal injuries,360 were infection in central nervous system,249 were brain tumor,150 were cerebral vascular disease,135 were disorders of cortical development,62 were neurocutaneous syndrome and 559 were others. In brief, head trauma, perinatal injuries, infection in central nervous system, brain tumor and cerebral vascular disease were top 5 causes of symptomatic epilepsy. Hippocampal sclerosis was found in 744 cases in those of eryptogenic epilepsy. The importance of febrile seizures( idiopathic:15.2% ( 10/66 ),symptomatic:6.5% ( 185/2834 ),cryptogenic:9.4% ( 250/2672 ) ; x2 =181.393,P =0.000 ) and family history ( idiopathic:83.3% ( 55/66 ),symptomatic:1.1% (31/2834),cryptogenic:0.4% (12/2672) ; x2 =68.354,P =0.000) was statistically different in different causes of epilepsy.Febrile seizures was the most frequent in cases with hippocampal sclerosis than those with other causes, and family history was the most frequent in neurocutaneous syndrome in symptomatic cases.Perinatal injurics was thc first causc in cases of infancy and childhood, head trauma was the top one in those of juvenile and adulthood, and cerebral vascular disease was the main cause in senile cases. Conclusions In the whole epileptic cases of 5572, 1% was idiopathic,51% was symptomatic, and 48% cryptogenic. The main causes of them were head trauma, perinatal injuries, infection in central nervous system, brain tumor, and cerebral vascular disease.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the best cut-off point, sensitivity and specificity of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) in predicting of abdominal visceral obesity.
METHODSAbdominal visceral fat area (VA) was measured with magnetic resonance image (MRI) in 690 subjects (men: 305, women: 385). Meanwhile, BMI, WC, WHR were assessed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used as index for analysis.
RESULTS1) 61.7% of over-weight/obesity (OW/OB) and 14.2% of normal weight (NW) individuals were abdominal visceral obesity (VA >/= 100 cm(2)) by MRI diagnosis. 2) VA was significantly positively correlated with anthropometric variables (BMI, WC, WHR), in which WC was the best (r = 0.73 - 0.77, P < 0.001). 3) The best cut-off points of these anthropometric parameters in assessing abdominal visceral obesity were as follow: BMI: 26 kg/m(2), WC: 90 cm, WHR: 0.93. Among them WC showed most sensitive and specific. 4) 95% men and 90% women appeared abdominal visceral obesity in subjects with BMI >/= 28 kg/m(2) or WC >/= 95 cm.
CONCLUSIONBMI, WC, WHR can all predict abdominal visceral obesity, with WC the best.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture on sphenopalatine ganglion in the treatment of severe perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR) in a randomized controlled clinical trials. Methods A total of 81 patients with severe perennial allergic rhinitis were randomly divided into three groups: 27 in the observation group, 27 in the drug control group and 27 in the acupuncture control group. The patients in the observation group were treated with acupuncture on sphenopalatine ganglion; and the patients in the drug control group took Desloratadine; and the patient in the acupuncture control group were treated with acupuncture on Yintang (GV 29) and Yingxiang (LI 20). All the groups were treated for 4 weeks. The TNNS and VAS score system were tested before and after the treatment, and the nasal exhalation of nitric oxide (eNO) concentration level wa detected at baseline and each week's during treatments. Results After the treatment, the effective rate [80.8%(21/26)vs.64.0%(16/25),65.4%(17/26),x2=13.811]of the observation group was significantly higher than either the drug control group or the acupuncture control group (P<0.01). Compared to the score of the three group before treatment, the TNNS score was significantly lower (P<0.01) after the treatment. Compared with the drug control group, the level of eNO in nasal exhalation air (265.377 ± 36.475 ppb vs. 281.769 ±45.823 ppb vs. 295.231 ± 24.595 ppb, F=4.247) of the observation group and the acupuncture control group were significantly higher (P<0.05). Conclusions Acupuncture on the sphenopalatine ganglion can not reduce the eNO concentration level of nasal exhaled air in patients with perennial allergic rhinitis, but it can improve the symptoms of rhinitis. The clinical effect of acupuncture on the sphenopalatine ganglion was better than the desloratadine and acupuncture on GV 29 and LI 20.

Objective:To investigate the clinical features and influencing factors of early-onset gout. Methods:Male patients with gout admitted to Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism were recruited from 2015 to 2018. Patients with gout onset before age 30 were defined as the " early-onset" group, and those with onset at 30~60 years were defined as the "late-onset" group. Clinical characteristics were compared between two groups. Factors associated with early-onset gout were analyzed. Results:A total of 1 243 male patients were enrolled in this study; 480 individuals were in the early-onset, and 763 in the late-onset groups. Compared with the late-onset group, patients with early-onset gout had higher consumption rates of sugar-sweetened beverage(28.0% vs 15.0%, P=0.001), a higher homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance level(3.78±2.93 vs 3.10±2.39, P<0.01), and larger proportions of family histories of diabetes(30.8% vs 20.4%, P<0.01)and hypertension(51.2% vs 42.6%, P=0.003). Logistic regression analysis showed that factors associated with early-onset gout were drinking sugar-sweetened beverage( P=0.012), family history of diabetes( P=0.037). Conclusion:Early-onset gout was associated with a family history of diabetes. Patients with family histories of diabetes are more likely to have early-onset gout, which may be associated with a common genetic basis.
