Objective:To compare the nutritional status of inpatients after enteral nutrition (EN) and parenteral nutrition (PN). Method: A multi-center survey of 1 142 inpatients from the Department of gastrointestinal surgery, thoracic surgery, gastroenterology, respiratory disease, neurology, neurosurgery and the intensive care unit of 6 general hospitals in Beijing and Shanghai was adopted in this study. Body weight (BW), haemoglobin (Hb) and serum albumin (sALB) were compared before and after EN or PN respectively. Results: BW, Hb and sALB all decreased after the nutritional support both in EN and PN groups, but only significantly in BW and sALB (BW: -1.58?2.36 kg/m2 vs -2.09?2.66 kg/m2, P

The prenatal ethanol exposure induced the alterations of dendritic spine and synapse in visual cortex and their long-term effect would be investigated in mice from P0 to P30. Pregnant mice were intubated ethanol daily from E5 through the pup's birth to establish mode of prenatal alcohol abuse. The dendritic spines of pyramidal cells in visual cortex of pups were labeled with DiI diolistic assay, and the synaptic ultrastructure was observed under transmission electron microscope. Prenatal alcohol exposure was associated with a significant decrease in the number of dendritic spines of pyramidal neurons in the visual cortex and an increase in their mean length; ultrastructural changes were also observed, with decreased numbers of synaptic vesicles, narrowing of the synaptic cleft and thickening of the postsynaptic density compared to controls. Prenatal alcohol exposure is associated with long-term changes in dendritic spines and synaptic ultrastructure. The changes were dose-dependent with long term effect even at postnatal 30.

Objective To investigate the blood fatty levels in different genotypes of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) and the carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) in patients with essential hypertension (EH).Methods Four hundred and eighty-eight cases of Han and Uygur in patients with EH were selected, and MMP-2-735 C/T and MMP-3-1171 5A/6A polymorphism was measured by polymerase chain reactionrestriction fragment length polymorphism. They were divided into two groups:EH with CAS group (CAS group,293 cases,Han 171 cases,Uygur 122 cases) and EH without CAS group (NS group,195 cases,Han 105 cases,Uygur 90 cases).Blood fatty factors were analyzed according to the different MMP genotypes. Results According to MMP-2 genotypes,in Hart CAS group, the low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in MMP-2 CT+TT genotypes were significantly higher than those in CC genotype(P < 0.05),and high density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were significantly lower than those in CC genotype(P < 0.05); In Uygur CAS group, the triglyceride levels in MMP-2 CT+TT genotypes were significantly higher than those in CC genotype(P < 0.05).According to MMP-3 genotypes in Han NS group, the total cholesterol and LDL-C levels in 6A/6A genotype were significantly higher than those in 5A/5A+5A/6A genotypes (P < 0.05).Conclusion The blood fatty levels are different in patients with different MMP genotypes, which may probably influence the CAS.

Objective:
To understand the depressive disorders prevalence and related risk factors among new drug users in a male drug rehabilitation center.
Methods:
The cross-sectional study was used. A total of 250 new drug users from a male drug rehabilitation center were recruited during March, 2017. The drug users who only use new type of drugs single or use traditional drugs at the same time were collected as the new drug users. Their general information and drug-related information were collected by self-made questionnaire, and depressive disorders and sleep quality information were collected by the self-reported Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the self-reported Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Questionnaire respectively. Logistic regression test was used to establish associations between variables.
Results:
Of all 250 drug users, the mean age (

The results of Chinese Nutrition and Health Surveillance (2010-2012) showed that the anemia prevalence in China reduced significantly compared with 2002, and people's nutrition and health status have improved. Unbalanced diet still exist, such as low intake of vegetables and fruits, and high intake of salt. The serum total cholesterol level and the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia and borderline high cholesterolemia were high among urban adults, and more attention should be paid for high serum total cholesterol level among older adults. These results are significant to the development of nutrition and health intervention strategy, carry out nutrition intervention and the achievement of national nutrition and health goals.

Objective:To evaluate the post-marketing safety and immunogenicity of a 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23).Methods:From September 2020 to June 2021, a clinical trial of single-dose PPV23 was conducted in people ≥3 years old in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of Guizhou, Hunan and Fujian provinces. Blood samples were collects from the subjects before and 30 d after vaccination. ELISA was used to quantitatively detect IgG antibodies against capsular polysaccharides of 23 Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes in serum samples. The adverse events (AEs) were monitored within 7 d after vaccination. Results:A total of 409 subjects were enrolled and included in safety analysis. Except for one with antibody level inversion, the other 408 participants were included in immunogenicity analysis. The levels of antibodies against the 23 Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes were all increased after vaccination by an average of 4.24 folds. The two-fold growth rates of the antibodies ranged from 51.72% to 96.81% with a total two-fold growth rate of 78.59%. The overall rate of AEs was 27.14% (111/409). Local AEs were mainly pain, induration, redness and swollen. No serious adverse events related to vaccination occurred. Conclusions:This study preliminarily demonstrated the good immunogenicity and safety of PPV23 vaccine.

OBJECTIVEFace-to-face interview (FTFI) and polling booth survey (PBS) were applied to compare the high risk behavior among HIV-positive clients of female sex workers (CFSWs).
METHODSThis study was conducted in antiretroviral therapy (ART) out-patients centers in Hengyang city, where clients who had been informed on their HIV-positive status for 6 months or longer were recruited. FTFI was first used to tackle on 8 sensitive questions related to sexual behavior, followed by PBS to poke on the same questions. Results from FTFI and PBS were then compared.
RESULTSCompared with FIFI, results in the PBS showed higher proportion of participants who reported "having had history of sexually transmitted diseases before knowing that they were infected with HIV" (40.6% vs. 24.2%) but lower proportions on "frequency of having sex with regular sexual partner less than 4 times per month" and "using condoms consistently with regular sexual partners in past 6 months (44.4% vs. 63.0%)". There were no significant differences in the remaining 5 questions shown in the results from the two methods.
CONCLUSIONHIV-positive CFSWs continued to practice unsafe sexual behaviors after knowing their HIV related status. Compared with FTFI, PBS seemed to have revealed higher proportion of unsafe sex behaviors, so as to generated more reliable data. While comparing with PBS, the traditional FTFI might have underestimated the risk behaviors among those HIV-positive CFSWs.
