To investigate the role of malnutrition on expression of thymus melatonin receptor(MR), rats were fed with low protein diet to induce an experimental animal model of malnutrition. MR was detected by radioligand binding assay. In malnourished rats before pregnancy and those during pregnancy, the thymus development in their offsprings was retarded, and the expression of MR was lower than that of the controls. After fed with standard diet, the development of the thymus and the MR in the infant rats improved significantly. The results suggest that malnutrition can retard the development of thymus, so the production of MR in thymus is lowered, and this may affect the physiological role of melatonin.

Objective To investigate the protective effects of alpha-lipoie acid (ALA) against beta-cell damage in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes in rats. Methods Thirty SD rats were randomly divided into three groups: normal control (NC) group, STZ group and ALA + STZ group, with 10 rats in each group. mg/kg, intraperitoneal injection), till the end of the study (4 weeks later). Blood glucose were measured every 3 days after STZ injection. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels were measured in pancreatic homogenates. Pancreatic beta-cells were examined by immunohistocbemical methods, Results STZ induced a significant increase of the level of blood glucose. Body weight of rats in ALA + STZ group was (341±26)g, which significantly lower than (368±3)g in NC group, and high than (301±2)g in STZ group with stas(P < 0. 05). Meanwhile the MDA levels in STZ group and NC group were(1.22 ± 0. 14) and(0.57 ± 0.04)nmoL/mg prot, respectively, and there was significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05) ; the GSH levels in STZ group and NC group were(16.54 ± 1.10) and(25.46 ± 0.62) mg/g prot (P < 0.05), respectively; degeneration of islet cells and decreased blood glucose were observed in STZ + ALA-pretreated rats; MDA level in pancreatic homogenates was(0.72 ± 0. 23)nmoL/mg prot, which was significantly lower than that in STZ group (P < 0.05) ; the GSH level was (35.33 ± 2.66) mg/g prot, which was significantly higher than that in STZ group (P < 0.05) ; increased staining of insulin and preservation of islet ceils functions were more obvious in the STZ + ALA-pretreated rats. Conclusions ALA exerted its protective effect through reducing the oxidative stress and preserving pancreatic beta-cell integrity.

BACKGROUND: With the rapid development of digital orthopaedics, navigational template has been widely used in the field of orthopaedics, but the research status of the technique in China based on bibliometric analysis is never reported. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the application status of navigational template in the orthopaedic field and to explore its tendency and hot spot based on bibliometric analysis, thereby providing reference for the development of digital orthopaedics in China.METHODS: A computer-based retrieval of CBMdisc, CNKI, CSPD, CMCI databases was conducted for articles published before December 1, 2016 using the keywords of navigational template and subject heading orthopaedics and the core orthopaedic journals published in 2016 were searched by manual. The articles were screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, and finally were analyzed by bibilometric study.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) In China, the first paper reporting navigational template was issued in 2008. A total of 199 articles were published in the past 9 years, with more than 10 papers yearly from 2009 to 2014, while there was a rapid increase tendency during 2015 and 2016. (2) The articles were mainly published in the orthopaedic journals and some professional journals closely related to digital orthopaedics, such as biomedical engineering, basic medicine and digital medicine. About 86.9% papers belong to Chinese core journals, including Chinese Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma,Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics, and Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research. (3) There is a 99.5% cooperation rate and 6.15 degree of cooperation. Zhang Yuan-zhi, Ding Huan-wen, Lu Sheng, Chen Yu-bing, Hu Yong,Huang Xuan and Zheng Peng-fei are most productive authors, and core authors contribute to 53.8%, indicating that the group of core authors is being formed. First authors are all from hospitals and universities, mostly from Kunming General Hospital of Chengdu Military Command of PLA, General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command of PLA, the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University and South China University of Technology. The cooperation rate of more than two institutes occupies 54.8%, indicating that the study holds a promising future with the strong support of research institutes in universities. About 59.3% articles are sponsored by funding, the national and provincial foundations accounting for 64.0% in 239 projects, and 57.6% articles were supported by more than two foundations, revealing the high research levels and academic values of this technique. (4) The articles are cited by 763 times; Lu Sheng,Chen Yu-bing, and Zhang Yuan-zhi are the highly cited authors; Kunming General Hospital of Chengdu Military Command of PLA, General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command of PLA and Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University are the highly cited institutes, and Chinese Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma is the highly cited journal. (5) To conclude, based on product design, manufacture and cadaver studies of the navigational template, it has been extensively applied in the spine surgery (especially cervical surgery), orthopaedic traumatology, bone and joint surgery, bone tumor and pediatric orthopaedics, and has obtained satisfactory clinical outcomes in assisting screw placement, osteotomy and precise resection and functional reconstruction. However, there is still a lack of a large-sample,multicenter, and long-term randomized trial.

Purpose To explore the image quality, radiation dose and diagnostic accuracy of double flash scanning mode in patients with coronary artery stent. Materials and Methods Sixty-three patients with coronary stents underwent CT coronary artery imaging using conventional coronary artery angiography as the gold standard. Double flash mode was used in patients with heart rate ≤ 70 beats per minute. Spiral scanning was used in patients with heart rate between 70-100 beats per minute. The image quality, vascular CT value, noise, SNR and CNR were compared. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy were determined, and the radiation dose was calculated. Results There were 59 stents in Double flash group (57 were diagnostic) and 58 stents in spiral group (all diagnostic). There was no statistically significant difference in image quality, CT value, noise, SNR or CNR for the first scan between two groups (P>0.05). Image quality for the second scan in Double flash group showed statistical difference with the first scan and spiral group (P<0.05). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of Double flash and spiral group were 90.0%, 89.8%, 64.3%, 97.8%, 89.8% and 83.3%, 95.7%, 83.3%, 95.7% 93.1%, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy for stents with diameter ≥ 3.0 mm were significantly higher than stents with diameter <3.0 mm. The radiation doses of Double flash group were significantly lower than the spiral group (P<0.05). Conclusion Double Flash mode scanning provides good image quality and diagnostic accuracy with lower radiation dose in patients with coronary artery stents. Imaging of stents with diameter ≥ 3.0 mm is superior to stents with diameter <3.0 mm.
