3.Role of nuclear factor kappaB in intestine injury induced by hepatic ischemia reperfusion.
Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2004;24(3):284-5, 291
The role of nuclear factor kappaB in intestine injury induced by hepatic ischemia reperfusion was investigated. Eighteen male Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups randomly: sham operation group (group A), hepatic ischemia reperfusion group (group B) and hepatic ischemia reperfusion plus pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) group (group C). The rats in group A were only subjected to laparotomy, those in group B underwent partial hepatic ischemia reperfusion (ischemia for 1 h and reperfusion for 2 h) and those in group C underwent the same procedure as that of group B but received PDTC 200 mg/kg i.v. before and after ischemia. After reperfusion, tissues of jejunum and venous blood were obtained for measurement of TNF-alpha, MDA and MPO. The levels of TNF-alpha in jejunum and venous blood, the levels of MPO in jejunum in group B were significantly higher than those in group A and group C (P<0.05). There was no significant different in the levels of MDA between group B and group C. The severity of histological intestinal injury in group B and group C was similar. Hepatic ischemia reperfusion caused intestine injury, NF-kappaB may play an important role in this course and the targeting of upstream components of the inflammatory response, such as NF-kappaB, may have important therapeutic applications.

Objective To explore the effect of flow yoga on balance ability and fear of falling of community patients with stroke. Methods Divided 92 community patients with stroke into the intervention group (46 cases) and the control group (46 cases) randomly, routine community nursing cares were used in the control group, while the flow yoga were used in the intervention group in addition. The berg balance scale, single direct question of fear of falling and modified falls efficacy scale were used to evaluate balance ability and fear of falling after the intervention between the two groups. Results The patients' balance ability was (48.28±10.64) in the intervention group, which was significant higher than that of in the control group (32.04±11.42),t=6.316,P<0.05.The fall efficacy in the intervention group was (132.03±27.38),which was significant higher than that of in the control group (108.74±25.68),t=8.256,P<0.05.The rate of fear falling in the intervention group was 26.09%(12/46),which was significant lower than that of in the control group (32.16T%,15/46),x2=6.545,P<0.05.Conclusion Flow yoga can improve stroke patients' balance ability and reduce fear of falling.
5.Influence of follow-up by telephone on adherence and quality of life for breast cancer patients with hormonal therapy
Chinese Journal of Practical Nursing 2015;31(15):1134-1137
Objective To explore the influence of follow-up by telephone on adherence and quality of life for breast cancer patients with hormonal therapy. Methods Totally 78 breast cancer patients with hormonal therapy were divided into the intervention group (40 cases) and the control group (38 cases). The control group were carried on routine guidance treatment and enjoined regular subsequent visit. The patients in intervention group were carried on the above-mentioned treatment and also receive regular follow-up by telephone.Through the follow-up by telephone we provided guidance for present and will present problems.Adherence for breast cancer patients with hormonal therapy and cancer rehabilitation evaluation system-short form(CARES-SF) were used to investigate the patients' adherence and quality of life six month after the intervention. Then we compared the adherence and quality of life before, six month of the intervention. The changes of adherence and quality of life scores were analyzed by repeated-measure ANOVA.Results The score of quality of life in the intervention group after 6 month of intervention was (25.43 ± 6.04),while in the control group was (40.61 ± 7.73),the difference was significant between the two groups,P<0.05.The score of medication adherence in the intervention group after 6 month of intervention was (8.57 ± 6.20),while in the control group was (14.12 ± 6.63),the difference was significant between the two groups,P<0.05.Conclusion Follow-up by telephone can improve adherence and quality of life for breast cancer patients with hormonal therapy.
6.Hypertension in the elderly: insights from recent research
Journal of Geriatric Cardiology 2010;07(2):116-125
Hypertension is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity around the world and, prevalence of hypertension is increasing with aging.Hypertension in the elderly is associated with increased occurrence rates of sodium sensitivity, isolated systolic hypertension, and 'white coat effect'.Arterial stiffness and endothelial dysfunction also increase with age. These factors should be considered in selecting antihypertensive therapy. The prime objective of this therapy is to prevent stroke. The fmdings of controlled trials show that there should be no cut-off age for treatment.A holistic program for controlling cardiovascular risks should be fully discussed with the patient, including evaluation to exclude underlying causes of secondary hypertension, and implementation of lifestyle measures. The choice of antihypertensive drug therapy is influenced by concomitant disease and previous medication history, but will typically include a thiazide diuretic as the first-line agent;to this will be added an angiotensin inhibitor and/or a calcium channel blocker.Beta blockers are not generally recommended,in part because they do not combat the effects of increased arterial stiffness. The hypertension-hypoten-sion syndrome requires case-specific management.Drug-resistant hypertension is important to differentiate from faulty compliance with medication.Patients resistant to the third-line drug therapy may benefit from treatment with extended-release isosorbide mononitrate.A trial of spironolactone may also be worthwhile.
7.Current status of healthcare-associated infection management in 118 basic level private medical institutions
Chinese Journal of Infection Control 2015;(10):688-690
Objective To investigate the current situation of healthcare-associated infection (HAI)management in basic level private medical institutions. Methods 118 basic level private medical institutions in a district of Chengdu were investigated through visiting and questionnaire. Results Of 118 medical institutions, only 2 had HAI manage-ment personnel,4 had HAI management system.22.03% had hand washing facilities in therapeutic rooms and con-sulting rooms,37.29% of institutions stored aseptic items in accordance with the requirements,55.93% of institu-tions disposed medical waste at disposal center;99.15% handled reusable items by users. Conclusion HAI manage-ment status is worried, health administrative department should strengthen support and supervision, especially in-tensified the supervision of private dental clinics.

Journal of Geriatric Cardiology 2010;07(3):138-142
Objective Several previous studies have shown androgens deficiency in men with CHF, and 2 studies on the prognostic significance of serum levels of androgens in CHF patients have yielded conflicting results. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between serum concentration of testosterone and mortality in men with systolic CHF. Methods A total of 175 elderly (age≥60 years) men with CHF were recruited. Total testosterone (TT) and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) were measured, and free serum testosterone (eFT) was calculated. The median follow-up time was 1262 days. Results During follow-up 54 (30.9%) patients died. TT and eFT deficiency was found in 21.7% (38/175) and 27.4% (48/175) patients, respectively. Both TT and eFT were inversely associated with LVEF and NT-proBNP (all P<0.01). Kaplan-Meier curves for patients in low, medium and high tertiles according to TT and eFT level showed significantly different cumulative survival rate (both P<0.01 by log-rank test). However, after adjustment for clinical variables, there were no significant associations between either TT or eFT levels or survival time (OR=0.97, 95% CI, 0.84-1.12, P=0.28; and OR=0.92, 95% CI, 0.82-1.06, P=0.14, respectively). Conclusion Our study showed that although levels of TT and eFT are commonly decreased in elderly patients with systolic CHF and related to disease severity, they are not independent predictors for mortality.
