After oral administration of Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen in Chinese), Panax notoginseng (Sanqi in Chinese) and Danshen Sanqi combination suspensions to Beagle dogs, the plasma concentration-time profiles of danshensu, tanshinone II(A), cryptotanshinone, notoginsenoside R1, ginsenoside Rg1 and Rb1 were analyzed by LC-MS/MS. Pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated and analyzed with BAPP 2.0 software. The results showed that the Cmax and AUC of danshensu, notoginsenoside R1, ginsenoside Rg1 and Rb1 in Danshen Sanqi combination group all decreased in comparison with those of Danshen or Sanqi given alone, while the CLz/F and Vz/F increased to some extent. No significant differences of the pharmacokinetics of tanshinone II(A) and cryptotanshinone were observed between groups.

In order to construct a novel multifunctional targeting nano-carrier based on pH-redox characteristics of tumor microenvironment, ketone bonds and disulfide bonds were bonded to the oligomeric hyaluronic acid (oHA) being sensitive to pH and the reduction environment. The chemical structure of oligomeric hyaluronic acid-8-mercaptomenthone 1,2-glycerolketal (oHMST) was characterized by 1H NMR,IR and ESI-MS.Curcuminloaded micelles were prepared by dialysis. The single factor investigation was carried out on the dosage form. Some properties, including particle size zeta potential, the morphology of micelles, and pH-sensitivity were studied. The materials were synthesized successfully. The micelles were spheric with a diameter of about 100 nm.The Zeta potential of the micelles was-(21.97 ± 1.08) mV.The in vitro test showed that oHMST carriers have good pH-sensitivity and redox-sensitivity.

Claude's syndrome is a distinctive brainstem syndrome characterized by ipsilateral third cranial nerve palsy with contralateral hemiataxia and is due to an intrinsic or extrinsic lesion in the midbrain. We report a case of Claude's syndrome caused by neurocysticercosis infection. A 68 year-old Asian man was admitted to our hospital because of ataxia, left ptosis, and diplopia. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a cystic lesion in the midbrain, which was surrounded by ring enhancement and peripheral edema. Neurocysticercosis infection was diagnosed by the cerebral spinal fluid study. The patient was treated with albendazole and steroids. A follow-up brain MRI three months later demonstrated the disappearance of a surrounding brain edema and rim enhancement. The most common cause of Claude's syndrome is cerebrovascular disease and malignancy. However, there is no report caused by neurocysticercosis infection. Therefore, if we encounter Claude's syndrome, we should consider neurocysticercosis infection as one of the etiologic factors.

OBJECTIVETo establish a rat model for hepatic oval cell proliferation and to observe the relationship between 2-acetaminofluorene (AAF) dosage and oval cell proliferation in the rat liver.
METHODSMale Wistar rats weighing 150 g received daily oral gavage of AAF for 4 days before operation and up to 7 days after operation. Two-thirds hepatectomy was performed on the 5th day and the gavage was not performed on the day of operation. AFF was given with the dosage of 2.5 mg/kg, 5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg, 15 mg/kg, and 20 mg/kg body weight. Animals in control group were given saline. Three rats from each group were killed every 2~3 days after hepatectomy and liver slices were fixed and processed for routine histology and immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSHepatic oval cells were not observed in the liver of controls and only a few were detected in the liver of 2.5 mg/kg and 5 mg/kg groups. However, obvious oval cell proliferation was seen in the liver of 10 mg/kg, 15 mg/kg, and 20 mg/kg groups. Hepatic oval cells were stained positive for cytokeratin 19, OV6, vimentin and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA).
CONCLUSIONSSatisfactory rat models for hepatic oval cell proliferation can be obtained using our scheme when AAF is dosed at 10~20 mg/kg body weight.

Chinese Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases 2021;14(5):392-398
Tuberculous meningitis is the most common and serious type of central nervous system tuberculosis, with high mortality and disability rate, which has attracted extensive attention of global public health. The high mortality rate and disability rate of tuberculosis meningitis may be related to its lack of specific clinical and imaging characteristics, insufficient attention from clinicians, lack of early sensitive and specific diagnostic testing techniques, delay in treatment, and restricted penetration of anti-TB drugs into the blood-brain barrier or/and MDR-TB, etc. This article reviews the disease burden of TBM, chemotherapy drugs and regimens, anti-inflammatory agents, aspirin, interventional and surgical treatment to provide reference for clinical management of this disease.

Objective:To evaluate the relationship between early postoperative recovery and frailty after digestive endoscopy-assisted minimally invasive surgery under intravenous anesthesia in the elderly. Methods:This study retrospectively selected hospitalized patients, aged ≥65 yr, scheduled for elective gastrointestinal endoscopic treatment.Early postoperative recovery time was defined as the period from the end of propofol administration to the achievement of a modified Aldrete score of 9.All the patients were divided into 2 groups according to whether the early recovery time after operation was less than 75%: normal early postoperative recovery time group and delayed early postoperative recovery time group.Frailty was assessed using the frailty phenotype (FP score 0-5), and the patient was diagnosed as frail (FP ≥3) or non-frail (FP 0-2). The age, sex, height, weight, smoking history, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status classification, type of operation, and baseline mean arterial pressure and heart rate were recorded.Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the risk factors for delayed early postoperative recovery time after minimally invasive digestive endoscopy under intravenous anesthesia in elderly patients. Results:A total of 214 patients were enrolled and divided into normal early postoperative recovery time group ( n=169) and delayed early postoperative recovery time group ( n=45). There were significant differences in frailty, age, drinking history of more than 10 yr, preoperative ASA Physical Status classification and propofol administration time between delayed early postoperative recovery time group and normal early postoperative recovery time group ( P<0.05). The results of logistic regression analysis indicated that frailty, age, ASA Physical Status classification Ⅲ, and propofol administration time were independent risk factors for the occurrence of delayed early postoperative recovery ( P<0.05). Conclusions:Frailty, age, ASA Physical Status classification Ⅲ and propofol administration time are independent risk factors for delayed early postoperative recovery time following digestive endoscopy-assisted minimally invasive surgery under intravenous anesthesia in elderly patients.
