Urticaria*

Tissue transplantation is a modern medical technology which develops rapidly and raises many ethical, legal, and political issues. In Korea, many tissue transplantations are performed and many tissue banks seem to be managed. However, there are no legal regulations and standards which control these behaviors. When we discuss tissue transplantations and tissue banking, the safety of tissues, the respect for donors' autonomy, the proper operation of the tissue bank, and the fair distribution of the tissues must be taken into account. And the autonomic regulation by medical professionals must be considered. An Act that controls tissue transplantation and tissue banking must be established, and must be enforced. The Act must be in harmony with the autonomic regulation by medical professionals. The practices that may pose severe risk to human body or threat to human life must be banned, and persons who perform this kind of practices must be punished. However, if the practices remain within the acceptable range, medical professionals can do their practices legally.

We experienced a cose of occupational asthma induced by the tobacco leaf in 49-year old man. He has worked at the Korean Tobacco and Ginseng company for 23 years but suffered from the intermittent mild wheezing and dyspnea since 6 years ago. He has not involved in the process making the tobacco directly, but just managed it at the storage barn. He showed a whole negative reaction to 55 inhalant allergens(Bencard, UK) and the allergen extracted from the yellow Korean tobacco leaf, but showed the dual asthmatic respose to the allergen bronchial provocation test with it. His basal PC is 6.35 mg/ml with methacholine inhalation challenge. Now he changed the workplace far away from the barn at the same company and is treated with bronchodilator and anti-asthmatic inhaler.

Fractures of the shaft of the humerus due to muscle violence esp. from throwing hand grenades are uncommon. Even so there are reports from many authors documenting such fractures from throwing a javerin, baseball, hand grenade and arm wrestling. Fractures of this type are usually spiral in nature; located between the middle and distal third of the humerus. We have treated four such cases during activities in which hand grenades were thrown. These fractures were sustained by military recruits in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Capital Armed Forces General Hospital from Jan. 1980 Dec. 1980.
