This study was carried out to evaluate the relations among workers' general characteristics, work-related behaviors and health related behaviors in a steel industry with 1,134 workers in Pohang. The results were as follows; 1. The mean age of workers was 50 years old and working duration was 15 years and over. Most of them were married(94 5%) and had studied beyond high school (53.0%). They performed three shift work and most of them(63.0%) had experienced industrial accidents. The frequency of noise and dust exposure was defined by a minimum of 6 hours per day, and workers complained about noise exposure(62.9%) and dust(55.6%). There were current smokers(67.7%), current drinkers(74.3%) and current exercising workers(32.3%) in the industry. The number of cigarette consumption in current drinkers was significantly high (13.6 +/- 8.4 pieces/day) and the alcohol consumption in current smokers was significantly high(l04.5 +/- 113.5 g/wk). And the number of cigarette consumption of exercisers was significantly low and the alcohol consumption of exercisers was higher than non-exercisers. 3. The ratio of current smokers on frequent noise in exposed workers versus non-exposed workers was not significantly high but the current drinkers in frequent noise and dust exposed workers was significantly higher than non--exposed. 4. The normal levels of SGOT workers in non-smokers were significantly higher than in current smokers, and the abnormal levels of LFT(SGOT, SGPT, gamma-GTP workers in nondrinkers were significantly high. The normal levels of SBP and DBP workers in current smokers were not significantly high but were significantly high in non-drinkers. 5. The ratio of current smokers in workers unsatisfied with their job and working condition was higher than non-smokers, but the ratio of current drinkers in workers satisfied with their job and working condition were higher. 6. The significant factors for SGOT and gamma-GTP were age, the drinking amount and BMI. But the only significant factor for r-GTP was BMI. The significant factors for DBP were age, the alcohol consumption and BMI And the significant factors for SBP were age, BMI.

A 36 year old infertile was diagnosed endometrial adenocarcinoma by endometrial biopy due to vaginal bleeding. She was characterized by obesity, hirsutism and infertility. Diagnosis was confirmed endometrial adenocarcinoma(Geade I) associated with polycystic ovarian disease postoperatively. We experienced this case and so report this case with a brief review of literatures.

To analyzed the progression of white matter maturation and white matter pathology, MR imaging of the brain was obtained in 38 children with delayed development. Children with developmental delay showed a high incidence of MR abnormalities(34/38, 89.5%). Delayed pattern of myelination and gray-white matter differentiation was seen in 13 patients. Twenty-two patients had white matter patholgy, including 14 with white matter hypoplasia, seven with focal small infarction, five with periventricular leukomalacia, and three with high signal intensities on T2 weighted image. Associated structural abnormalities were also evaluated. The most common lesions in decreasing frequency were cerebral atrophy and dysgenesis of the corpus callosum, pachygyria and/or polymicrogyria, porencephalic cyst and Leigh's disease. Twenty-three of 34 children had multiple abnormalities on MRI. The MRI was useful in depicting the progression of myelination and other white matter lesions, and serial follow-up MR is recommended for patients with delayed or lack of myelination and gray-white matter differentiation.

Cutis verticis gyrata is a descriptive term for the condition characterized by ridges and furrows of the scalp resembling the convolutions of the brain. Cutis verticis gyrata can be categorized into primary and secondary types according to various etiologic factors and associated conditions capable of inducing the disease process. We report a case of essential primary cutis verticis gyrata in a 29-year-old male who did not have any other underlying or associated conditions.

Epidural hematoma (EDH) is relatively rare in newborn infants and frequently associated with instrumental deliveries or other complications during labor and delivery. Although surgical evacuation has been the most common therapy, many other procedures have been suggested. Although many epidural hematomas require surgical evacuation rather than non-surgical management, the conservatiob or aspiration of hematoma have been attempted. In the case of EDH associated with cephalhematoma, aspiration of cephalhematoma could be attempted because frequent features of these combination were communication between these hematoma. We report a case of successful nonsurgical management for epidural hematoma through the aspiration of accompanying cephalhematoma in a five-day-old newborn infant.

A 25-year-old male patient was received emergency operation, open reduction and tenorrhaphy owing to degloving injury on the dorsum of his left hand, under axillary brachial plexus block using a transarterial approach. Following operation, he revealed the signs and symptoms of brachial plexus injury such as weakness, sensory deficit and tingling sensation on his left forearm and hand. The finding on electromyography (EMG), performed on the 16th postoperative day (POD), was indicative of left incomplete brachial plexus injury, mainly in medial cord and ulnar nerve, and partially median and radial nerve at/above the axillary level. The signs and symptoms were improved slightly on POD 8 and a lot on POD 23. The complete recovery of symptoms and regeneration of injured nerve on EMG were confirmed 3 months following operation. In this case, the causative factors of brachial plexus injury were suggested in stretching of the brachial plexus due to improper positioning of injured arm during or after operation, combined with or without injury due to nerve block or tourniquet compression.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to establish the serum IGF-1 level in newborn infants, and investigate its association with growth and diseases. METHODS: In a retrospective study, serum IGF-1 levels were measured for newborn infants admitted to NICU at Kyungpook University Hospital from March 2007 to July 2007. Birth data, disease history, and hospital course were obtained from medical records. RESULTS: Of 52 blood samples obtained at birth, serum IGF-l levels in 30 preterm infants (31.6+/-27.3 ng/mL) were lower than in 22 full-term infants (53.4+/-40.0 ng/mL; P<0.05). In sick full-term infants, serum IGF-1 levels (46.0+/-40.2 ng/mL) were lower than in healthy full-term infants (64.1+/-39.5 ng/mL; P<0.05). In preterm infants, there were no differences in IGF-1 levels between healthy (33.2+/-23.3 ng/mL) and sick infants (30.6+/-30.4 ng/mL); however, IGF-1 levels in both sick and healthy preterm infants were lower than in healthy full-term infants. Among infants admitted after 8 days of life, serum IGF-1 levels were higher in infants who gained weight (70.8+/-36.2 ng/mL) than in infants who lost weight (13.3+/-19.9 ng/mL; P<0.01); however IGF-1 levels showed no difference between gender or method of delivery. CONCLUSION: The study showed lower IGF-l levels in preterm infants than in full-term infants. Additionally, the IGF-l level in infants with weight loss was lower than in infants with weight gain. These results indicate that serum IGF-1 is associated with gestational age and postnatal growth.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to develop a computer decision making support system that enables nurses to utilize the computer in selecting the best decision for pain management for patients with dementia institutionalized in nursing homes. METHODS: To formulate the protocol for the management of patients' pain, the researcher analyzed content of interviews with 30 nurses in three nursing homes and an expert group. A decision support computer program was formalized based on existing protocols. To evaluate the effectiveness and applicability of the system, analysis of data on patient pain management and nurse satisfaction with the system were done after the formalized decision support computer program was complete. RESULTS: The decision support computer program for pain management for institutionalized patients with dementia was finalized after adjustments following the evaluation. Nurse satisfaction with the program was moderate. It also provided opportunity to reassess thinking about pain and pain management. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that this program provides nurses with useful knowledge for pain management in institutionalized patients with dementia and aids in decision making in nursing practice in nursing home.
