We present 9 cases of plexiform schwannoma examined at Severance hospital from January, 1980 to September, 1987. The predilection sites of plexiform schwannoma included head and neck including oral cavity. The mean age at the time of diagnosis was 32 years. The difference of sex ratio was not apparent. Histopathological findings revealed multiple round to oval nodules encapsulated by thin fibroconnective tissue with nuclear palisading and Verocay body in each nodule. There was mild to moderate cellular atypia in some area, but mitotic figure was not found. The Bielschowsky's silver stain did not demonstrate any axon within or outside of the nodule. The thin capsule was positive with reticulin stain.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Proper finishing and polishing enhance both the esthetics and the longevity of restored teeth. Blade finishing technique would be suited for smoothing and finishing. Evaluation of this technique are necessary. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the blade finishing and polishing procedures on the surface profile and roughness of ormocer-based composite resin and nanohybrid composite resin. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The material included a ormocer-based composite resin (Admira(R) & Admira(R) Flow); a nanohybrid composite resin (Grandio(R) & Grandio(R) Flow). One hundred forty specimens of each group were prepared using a mylar strip and randomly divied into blade finishing and rubber polishing groups (n=10). The average surface roughness (Ra) in micrometers was measured and the surface profile was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (Magnification X 200). The data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney Test at 0.05 significance level. CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicated that the mylar strip produced the smoothest surface on all materials and among the finishing-polishing methods was not significanct difference (P>0.05). Ormocer-based flowable composite resin performedthe lowest variability in initial surface roughness among the tested materials.

Among the diverse factors causing obesity, the life styles and the food habits are very important. This study has carried out to evaluate the association between the habit of living and the Body Composition in 132 male and 313 female of 20-75 years old people in Incheon. The research tools are questionnaires of 6 items of life styles(Smoking, Drinking, Frequency of exercises, Normal Activity Degree, Favorite food, Degree of salt ingestion) and a height and Body Composition. The statistical results are as follows : 38% of male and 23% of female were over the normal range(Korean Society of Obesity 2004). Although the tendency of average BMI are increasing, there was no significant difference in comparison of the average BMI according to the age in male. But, the percentage of Body Fat, the Visceral Fat Area and the WHR, there was statistical significance according to age in male. The middle aged group(between 40~50 years) and older group(over 60 years) were over the normal range. In female, there were significant difference in comparison of the average BMI, the percentage of Body Fat, the WHR, the Visceral Fat Area and the Fitness Score. Especially, in the old female group, the BMI and the WHR score were over the normal range. The BMI: There was positive correlation with the Percent Body Fat(r=0.796, r=0.839, p=0.000), the Body Fat Mass(r= 0.891, r=0.932, p=0.000) and the WHR(r=0.783, r=0.902, p=0.000). Frequency of Exercises, Normal activity Degree, Favorite food, Degree of salt ingestion : There was significant difference in comparison of sex(P<0.05). The results of this study hope to provide an opportunity to further examine the relationship of the Healthy Behavior to Body Composition and obesity.

Korean Journal of Neurotrauma 2022;18(1):75-82
Although rare, acute subdural hematoma (ASDH) may occur after burr hole trephination (BHT) for chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). It usually occurs in the hemisphere ipsilateral to the burr hole site and rarely in the hemisphere contralateral to the burr hole site. On computed tomography (CT), SDH is usually crescent-shaped and occasionally lentiform or biconvex, which can be misdiagnosed as epidural hematoma (EDH). In rare cases, ASDH may resolve spontaneously and rapidly. Here, we report a case of rapid spontaneous resolution of contralateral lentiform ASDH after BHT for CSDH in a patient with brain atrophy. A 55-year-old man developed left CSDH 2 months after traumatic brain injury. Left BHT was performed, and a lentiform hematoma, presumed to be EDH, was found in the right frontal region on the CT scan acquired immediately after BHT. On the CT scan acquired 12 hours later, the lentiform hematoma disappeared and spread along the hemisphere. It was presumed to be ASDH. To prevent contralateral ASDH after BHT, slow decompression and minimal gentle or no irrigation should be performed during BHT, particularly in patients with brain atrophy.

Korean Journal of Urology 1996;37(2):141-149
Pharmacologic treatment of the detrusor hypocontractility(hyporeflexia) remains controversial issues. Clean intermittent self catheterization(CIC) alone, or combination with bethanechol chloride has been generally accepted as treatment modality. Until presently, bethanechol chloride is the only pharmacologic agent commonly used for bladder emptying without significant complication. However, the effectiveness of bethanechol seem to be episodic. The present study compared the contractile response of various pharmacologic agents including bethanechol chloride, ATP, PG E1, E2, F2-alpha on the smooth muscle strips of male rabbit bladder. In addition, effect of the gastrointestinal motility agents such as cisapride and metoclopramide on the contraction of rabbit bladder were assessed. Each bladder was divided into bladder body and bladder base for comparison of pharmacologic effects. FS at basal tension elicited a frequency dependent contraction which was greater in bladder body strips than in bladder base strips. The contractile responses to bethanechol, ATP, PG E1, E2 and PG F2-alpha were greater in bladder body than in bladder base.In the bladder body, magnitude of the contractile responses by ATP and PG F2-alpha were approximately 1/3 of those by bethanechol or FS.PG F2-alpha was consistently more potent to produce contraction than PG E1, E2. ATP induced contraction only consisted of initial phasic rise of tension. The contraction induced by PG developed slower than those caused by bethanechol. Cisapride(10uM) induced weak contractile responses comparable to those by PG E1 Metoclopramide had no contractile effects in this studies. Conclusively, differences exist in the response of the bladder body and base to FS and various pharmacologic agents. ATP, PG E2 and PG F2-alpha exhibited some notable contractile responses to the bladder body that were approximately 1/3 of those by bethanechol. Gastrointestinal motility agents were not shown to be effective in the mediation of contraction of rabbit bladder.

Korean Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy 2000;21(3):730-734
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Gabexate, a protease inhibitor, has been known to prevent pancreatic damage following ERCP. We conducted a prospective and randomized study to assess the preventive effect of gabexate. Methods: Of the 96 patients enrolled, 46 were treated with gabexate and 50 with placebo. The groups were similar with regard to sex, age, body-mass index, and the final diagnosis of ERCP. RESULTS: 24 patients (25.0%) had elevated pancreatic-enzyme levels; the frequency was similar in the two groups (P=0.48). Mean serum amylase value at 4 hours after ERCP was similar in patients with elevated basal level (220.5+/-43.2 U/L) and those with normal basal level (170.4+/-31.2 U/L). After the procedures, serum amylase values were lower in the gabexate group (137.1+/-19.8 U/L) than in the placebo group (212.0+/-50.4 U/L). The differences were not significant in the mean levels of amylase between the groups for any of imaging of the pancreatic ducts (pancreatic-duct imaging, 201.5+/-49.4 U/L, bile-duct imaging, 153.7+/-30.0 U/L). But in the patients with pancreatic duct imaging, serum amylase values were significantly higher in the placebo group (295.0+/-97.6 U/L) than in the gabexate group (112.0+/-10.6 U/L)(p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Prophylactic treatment with gabexate does not reduce pancreatic damage related to ERCP, but only in the patients with pancreatic duct imaging there were the significant differences between in the gabexate group and in the placebo group.
