1.Acceptability research of the home fecal occult blood self-testing in the community for colorectal cancer screening

Objective To explore the feasibility of home-based fecal occult blood self-test (home FOBTself-test) in the community colorectal cancer (CRC) screening,thereby to improve the community's compliance with colorectal cancer screening.Method Community medical staff and residents in Dongcheng District was recruited by means of self-reported questionnaires about personal wishes for home FOBT self-test screening since August 2013 to January 2014.Finally,using x2 test and logistic regression analysis to analyze the results of the final questionnaire.Of the total of 6,147 copies of the questionnaire,5 943 copies were valid questionnaires (Community medical staff:resident=114:5 829).Results 88.6% of community medical staff and 69.1% of community residents expressed willingness to choose home self-test FOBT.Univariate analysis showed that wishes of community medical staff for FOBT screening were unrelated with gender (P=0.635),age (P=1.000),CRC high-risk or not (P=0.418),awareness of home self-test FOBT(P=0.693).The wishes of community residents for FOBT screening related with gender (P=0.012),age (P=0.000),CRC high-risk or not (P=0.000),awareness of home self-test FOBT (P=0.000).Colorectal cancer risk was the greatest impact on wishes for FOBT screening (OR 值 (95% CI) =8.594 (7.279-10.148)).Conclusions Home FOBT self-test was simple,fast,easy to use and widely accepted in CRC screening of community residents,therefore it may improve the community's compliance with colorectal cancer screening.Screening for CRC is strongly recommended.
2.Distribution of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ in ocular tissues of rodent animal

Background Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) is one of nuclear transcription factors.It plays potential anti-inflammation,anti-fibrogenesis,anti-angiogenesis and neuroprotection roles in human.So the study of its physiological and pathological function in human and animals is still a focus.To understand the distribution of PPARγ in ocular tissues is important for the target treatment of eye diseases.Objective Current study was to investigate the expression of PPARγ in different parts of eye in rodent.Methods Cornea,lens,ciliary,retina and optical nerve were isolated from 6 SPF C57BL/6J mice and 1 SD rat.Western blot assay was used to detect the expressions of PPARγprotein in cornea,lens and retina.Immunohistochemistry was used to locate the distribution of PPARγ protein in cornea,lens,ciliary,retina and optical nerve.Also,the co-expression of PPARγ with glutamine synthetase (GS) (a Müller cell specific marker) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)(an astrocyte specific marker) in retina and optic nerve was detected by immunofluorescent double staining.Results Western blot assay showed that PPARγ was expressed in the cornea,lens and retina of the mice.Immunohistochemistry revealed that PPARγ mainly located at corneal epithelium with the strongest staining in the basal cells,but only weak staining was seen in corneal endothelial cells and stroma cells.PPARγ was strongly expressed in epithelial cells and shallow cortex layer of mouse lens.In mouse retina,PPARγ was extensively and richly expressed in retinal ganglion cell layer,inner and outer plexiform layers and inner nuclear layer.In addition,PPARγ was also expressed in the non-pigmented epithelial cells in ciliary body.The co-locations of PPARγexpression with GS in retinal tissue and PPARγ expression with GFAP in optical nerve tissue were found in the mice.Conclusions PPARγis proved to distribute extensively in different ocular tissues.These results offer basis for the target treatment of relevant eye diseases.
3.Survey on Acquaintance of Early Symptoms of Stroke Patients

Objective To understand the awareness of early symptoms of stroke patients in Gansu. Methods 1100 stroke patients in neurology and neurosurgery departments in 10 hospitals of different levels in Gansu in 2010 were surveyed by questionnaire. Results The awareness rate of early symptoms of stroke was generally low in all age groups. Conclusion Stroke patients were lack of awareness of early symptoms in Gansu, we should step up publicity efforts to enable more patients to receive early treatment and reduce morbidity and mortality.
4.Awareness of Knowledge about Stroke Rehabilitation in Medical Professionals

Objective To investigate the awareness of knowledge about stroke rehabilitation in medical professionals in Gansu. Methods 520 professionals of neurology, neurosurgery, and others from 10 hospitals of different level were investigated with questionnaire. Results The awareness of the knowledge about stroke rehabilitation was different with the gender (χ2=17.50), education levels (χ2=66.35), professional levels (χ2=16.81), specialities (χ2=124.39) and duties (χ2=29.99) of the professionals (P<0.05). Conclusion It is necessary to improve the education of rehabilitation in hospitals.
5.Awareness of Rehabilitation for Stroke in Relatives of Stroke Patients in Gansu

Objective To investigate awareness of relatives about knowledge of rehabilitation for stroke. Methods 1082 relatives of patients with stroke from 10 hospitals in Gansu were investigated with self-designed questionnaire. Results A total of 1082 questionnaires were returned. The relatives knew some about the stroke rehabilitation. Their awareness of stroke rehabilitation were different with the ages,educated levels, and occupations (P<0.05). Conclusion It is necessary to improve the health education for relatives of stroke patients individually about post-stroke rehabilitation.
6.Awareness of Stroke Risk Factors in Families of Stroke Patients

Objective To investigate the knowledge of stroke risk factors in the families of patients with stroke. Methods 1100 family members of stroke patients hospitalized in 10 hospitals of various levels in Gansu were investigated with self-designed questionnaire. Results Most families knew that the hypertension was a risk factor for stroke, and there was no significant difference among ages. 7.32% of the families knew all the 6 common risk factors for stroke, and 14.23% knew none of them. Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes as the risk factors for stroke was known most in the families finished higher education, and different with the education levels. Heart disease, smoking, consumption of alcohol as risk factors for stroke was known poorly whatever the careers of the families. Conclusion The families of patients with stroke know less about common risk factors for stroke in Gansu.
7.Survey of Family Members of Stroke Patients on Negative Emotions and Psychological Treatment

Objective To investigate the awareness of the negative emotions on the physical rehabilitation and psychological treatment of family members of stroke patients in Gansu. Methods 1100 stroke patients from 10 hospitals of different levels in Gansu were surveyed. Results Family members who thought negative emotions can affect the recovery of limb function accounted for 77.17%, and who thought psychological treatment was needed accounted for 83.46%. Conclusion Family members of stroke patients think that negative emotions affect the recovery of limb function and psychological treatment is needed.
8.Awareness of Risk Factors for Stroke in Stroke Patients: 1043 Cases Survey

Objective To investigate the knowledge about risk factors for stroke in stroke patients. Methods 1043 stroke patients in 10 hospitals were investigated with self-designed questionnaire. Results The rate of awareness of risk factors for stroke was: hypertension 61.55%, hyperlipidemia 40.27%, drinking 32.21%, smoking 30.11%, diabetes mellitus 28.67%, heart disease 23.11%. 6.42% knew all the 6 risk factors, and 20.13% did not know any risk factor. The rate of awareness of diabetes mellitus was different among various aged groups (P<0.01), and the rate of awareness of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus increased with the years of education. Conclusion The stroke patients know less about the common risk factors for stroke, who need more health education.
9.Distribution of lanosterol synthase and lanosterol in cornea, lens and retina tissue of rats

Background Researches showed that triterpenoids,with a similar structure to lanosterol,has therapeutical effect on many systemic diseases,and lanosterol was determined to have a therapeutical effect on cataract recently.However,how the lanosterol plays effects on other eye diseases is still unelucidated.Understanding the distribution of lanosterol in ocular tissue is helpful for us to elucidate the relationship of lanosterol with eye diseases.Objective This study attempted to investigate the distribution of lanosterol synthase (LSS) and lanosterol in cornea,lens and retina tissue of rats and offer a basis for the targeting treatment of eye diseases.Methods Fifteen SPF male SD rats were sacrificed by excessive anesthesia to obtain the eyeballs.The relative expressions of LSS protein and gene in the cornea,lens and retina tissue of the rats were detected by Western blot and reverse transcription (RT)-PCR,respectively.Immunofluorescence staining technology was used to locate the distribution of LSS in cornea,lens and retina tissue.The contents of lanosterol in the cornea,lens and retina tissue were analyzed by liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer (LC-MS).Results No LSS protein and mRNA was expressed in the retinal tissue in normal rats.The mean relative expression of LSS protein in the lens and cornea was 0.43±0.05 and 0.25±0.03,respectively,showing a significant difference between them (t =-5.35,P< 0.01).The relative expression of LSS mRNA was 0.51 ±0.04 and 0.29 ±0.02 in the lens and cornea,respectively,with a stronger expression in the lens in comparison with the cornea (t =-8.34,P<0.01).Immunofluorescence staining showed that LSS primarily located in corneal epithelial layer,stromal layer and endothelial layer as well as lens epithelial cells and shallow cortex layer and hardly expressed in retina,and no co-expression of LSS with the neuron marked by NeuN and the Müller cell marked by glutamine synthetase (GS) in retinal tissue.LC-MS analysis revealed that the contents of lanosterol in lens and cornea was (24.37 ±2.91) ng/mg and (5.31 ±0.58) ng/mg,respectively,with a significant difference between them (t =-11.13,P<0.01).Conclusions LSS and lanosterol extensively distribute in cornea and lens of normal rats,but not in retina tissue.These results offer new strategies for the target treatment of relevant eye diseases.
10.Survey of Knowledge about Stroke and Rehabilitation in Stroke Patients

Objective To investigate the knowledge of stroke risk factors, early symptoms, and rehabilitation in stroke patients. Methods 1043 cases with stroke were stratified randomly sampled from 10 hospitals at different levels in Gansu, and were surveyed with self-designed questionnaire. Results For risk factors for stroke, hypertension was the most aware (61.55%), 6.42% knew all the factors. For the prevention and treatment, reasonable diet was the most aware (56.18%), followed with giving up smoking and drinking (52.92%). For the early symptoms, dysaesthesia of one side body was the most aware (53.88%), and then the headache and dizzy (50.14%). It was less than 30% to know the blurring, nausea and vomiting, and stiff tongue, etc. as the early symptoms. 60% of the patients did not know any about the rehabilitation, 22% did not know if rehabilitation be needed. 80% of the patients with stroke chose medication regardless of family income, and rehabilitation was chosen less than 30%. Conclusion It is important to popularize the knowledge of risk factors, early symptoms, and rehabilitation of stroke.
