1.Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are induced to differentiate into cardiomyocytes by hepatocyte growth factor in vitro
Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 2000;0(07):-
AIM: To explore a new method of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) inducing bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) to differentiate into cardiomyocytes. METHODS: Bone marrow MSC was cultured with DMEM media (10% fetal calf serum) 4-6 passages, and induced by HGF (10 ?g/L) for 30 d. Automatical beating of the differentiated cells was observed daily with transverse microscopy, or under condition of 0.1% isoproterenol or cal (cium-deprived) incubation. Specific cardiac myosin in the cells was indentified by immunochemistry. RESULTS: At 14-20 d of differentiation, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells formed clones, in 10%-50% of which spontaneous beating cell-mass had come to continuously exist. Isoproterenol increased the beating rate and calcium-deprived media inhibited the beating. The cells were identified to be cardiomyocytes by expression of cardiac myosin heavy chain. CONCLUSION: HGF may induce bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into cardiomyocytes with high efficiency, but the differentiating pathway of stem cells remains to be further studied. [
3.Chinese Tuina: challenge of evidence-based medicine and development strategy

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2005;3(6):429-31
Evidence-based medicine (EBM), which aims to get the best evidence from medical research, is a growing international movement in health care. Because of this new shift in medical practice, great attention should be paid to how to introduce EBM into Chinese Tuina, and this is a good opportunity for the development of Chinese Tuina. To adopt EBM will be beneficial to developing Chinese Tuina, improving clinical research, renewing education mode and getting more academic achievement. So it is necessary to establish a new experimental methodology combined with EBM in order to get great progress in Chinese Tuina.

To study the related substances in nicergoline, electrospray positive ionization high resolution TOF/MS was used for the determination of the accurate mass and elemental composition of the related substances. Triple quadrupoles tandem MS/MS was employed for the determination of the fragmentations of the parent ions. 16 related substances were detected and identified to be eight synthetic by-products and eight degradation products, by using impurity references matching, product mass spectra fragmentations elucidation, and verified further according to synthetic processes and stress testing results. The results obtained are valuable for nicergoline manufacturing process control and quality assurance.

Objective To design a checklist (NICU-PoHC) for postoperative handover in the NICU (Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit) in case of information omissions or task errors during the handover process, thus to improve patient safety. Methods Team discussion and literature review was conducted to compose the preliminary version of the NICU-PoHC.Then two rounds of panel review were conducted using the Delphi methods to revise the preliminary checklist and to calculate its Content Validity Index (CVI).Results The authority coefficient of experts was 0.86.Twenty experts proposed 7 suggestions for revision. The NICU-PoHC was developed, and its CVI was 0.88.Conclusions Our study developed the NICU-PoHC,which can be used as an assistant tool guiding the postoperative handover, preventing information omissions and task errors, and thus improving patient safety.

Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2008;6(2):83-86
Objective:To investigate the onset mechanism of cervical vertigo from the proprioceptive sensation and provide clinical basis for its treatment. Methods:Among the 121 cases that conformed to the diagnostic criteria of cervical vertigo,70 cases who presented with negative neck-rotation test and cervical vertigo without obvious vascular factors by transcranial Doppler(TCD)were assigned to the observation group, while 51 cases who presented with positive neck-rotation test and cervical vertigo due to spasm of vertebral basal artery or insufficient blood supply by TCD were assigned to the control group. The cases in the two groups were treated once every day,5 days make up one treatment course and the resuIts were statistically analyrzed after one treatment course. Results:The skull triaxial spatial offset of the cases in the two groups were significantly reduced after the treatment (P<<0.01).However, there was no statistically significant difference between the skull triaxial spatial offset between the two groups (p>0.05).It is not conclusive that the therapeutic effect in the two groups was significantly different after one treatment course. Conclusion:Tuina manipulation therapy can improve the skull spatial ofrset repositioning ability of the Patients.
10.The Current Development of Biofuels

China Biotechnology 2006;0(08):-
The production technology for the first generation of biofuels has been made great achievements and some countries, such as USA, EU countries, and Brazil, have formed successful biofuel industrial chains. Cellulose ethanol, a representative of the second generation of biofuels and a kind of more promising alternative fuels, has not yet got enough key technological breakthroughs and its large scale commercial production still needs rather some time to realize. Now it is in the early stage of transition to the second generation of biofuels. Taking the development of second generation of biofuels as their national policies, many countries have developed long-term development plans and objectives, and provided a good policy environment and strong support for it. Thus institutes and enterprises are engaging and successing in addressing key issues relating to the development of biofuels. At the mean time, some important issues relating to the sustainable development of biofuels have attracted people's attention.
