7.Analysis of the effect of contact strength on three-dimensional displacement of an implant-supported fixed bridge under axial-concentrated load using digital laser speckle photography.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of four kinds of different contact strength on the three-dimensional displacement of an implant-supported fixed bridge using digital laser speckle photography method. An in vitro model of beagle mandible with an implant-supported fixed bridge in its right premolar region was developed. The bridge was Au-Pt metal-ceramic. The contact was recovered to four different tightnesses, named 0, 1, 2, and 3. Different axial concentrated static load was applied to abutments and bridge respectively. The three-dimensional displacement of the implant-supported fixed bridge was measured using digital laser speckle photographic method. The results demonstrated that the influence of contact tightness was mainly on the mesio-distal and buccal lingual parts. When the contact tightness reached number 3, the regularity of displacement distribution was changed. The present study proved that digital laser speckle photography was an effective method of measuring the micro-displacement. One of the criterions of contact recovering decreased the implant displacement effectively without changing the regularity of displacement distribution.

8.Effects of acupuncture at left and right Hegu (LI 4) for cerebral function laterality.

OBJECTIVETo explore the cerebral function laterality of acupuncture at left and right Hegu (LI 4) by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and provide objective evidences for side selection of Hegu (LI 4) in the clinical application.
METHODSEighty healthy volunteers were randomly divided into a left-acupoint group and a right-acupoint group, and they were treated with acupuncture at left Hegu (LI 4) and right Hegu (LI 4) respectively. After the arrival of qi, the task-state fMRI data in both groups was collected, and analysis of functional neuroimages (AFNI) software was used to perform intra-group and between-group comparisons. After acupuncture, acupuncture feelings were recorded and MGH acupuncture sensation scale (MASS) was recorded.
RESULTSThe difference of MASS between the two groups was not significant (P>0. 05). The result of left-acupoint group showed an increased signal on right cerebral hemisphere, while the right-acupoint group showed extensive signal changes in both cerebral hemispheres. The analysis between left-acupoint group and retroflex right-acupoint group showed differences in brain areas.
CONCLUSIONSThe central effect of acupuncture at left and right Hegu (LI 4) is dissymmetry, indicating right hemisphere laterality. The right lobus insularis and cingulate gyrus may be the key regions in the acupuncture at Hegu (LI 4).

10.Effect of extract of Gingko biloba on soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 in patients with early diabetic nephropathy.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of extract of Gingko biloba (EGb) on soluble intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) in patients with early diabetic nephropathy (DN).
METHODSSixty-three patients with DN in early stage were randomly assigned to the control group (29 cases) and the treatment group (34 cases). Both groups were treated by routine treatment, and with EGb given to the treatment group additionally. The treatment course was 2 months. Serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 were determined with ELISA before and after treatment, and urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), serum creatinine (SCr) and blood lipids, etc. were examined as well.
RESULTSThe levels of serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 were significantly lower in both groups after treatment than those before treatment (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), and the decrement in the treatment group was more significant than that in the control group (P < 0.01). And the levels of UAER, SCr and blood lipids decreased in the treatment group after treatment (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONEGb could retard the development of early DN through decreasing the levels of serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1.
