OBJECTIVETo optimize the hydrolysis process of linarin by response surface methodology, and to use the model of aldose reductase to study the acacetin's activity of aldose reductase inhibitory.
METHODThe model of acacetin enzyme in vitro was established by the determination of fluorescence absorption of NADPH, the inhibition rate of acacetin aldose reductase was calculated, and then the IC50 of hydrolysis was obtained. The hydrolysis process of linarin hydrolysis condition was optimized by using response surface method.
RESULTThe results indicated that the IC50 of acacetin (2.74 mg x L(-1)) was less than the IC50 of linarin (3.53 mg x L(-1)). Hydrolyzation time of 7.4 h, sulphuric acid concentration of 0.54 mol x L(-1) and the ratio of material to liquid of 3 : 1 were the optimum conditions.
CONCLUSIONHydrolyzate acacetin has preferable inhibitory activity of aldose reductase. The optimized hydrolysis condition of linarin is convenient to use with good predictability.

2.A virtual eversion method for blood vessels.
Chinese Journal of Medical Instrumentation 2009;33(4):251-254
A virtual eversion method for human blood vessels is proposed in this paper, based on the virtual eversion methodology along electric field lines, and featured with a reference surface optimization using non-rigid registration. This method has the benefits of easy access with a larger view, and the ability to preserve the vessel's global anatomy and its local spatial relationship with other organs. A CT image dataset of arterial stenosis of lower extremities is tested to implement the virtual eversion experiment, and the results reveal the stenosis of artery clearly, which demonstrates the feasibility of this technique.

Objective To investigate the relationship between extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN), the upstream regulatory factor of matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs), and the formation of atherosclerosis and the clinical type of coronary heart disease. Methods A total of 223 patients were classified into four groups according to results of coronary angiography (CAG) and clinical data: STEMI group (65 patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction), NSTE ACS group (42 patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome), SAP group (75 patients with stable angina pectoris) and normal control group (41 patients of CAG-negative). The mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) of EMMPRIN on monocytes of peripheral blood (PBMCs)were examined by flow cytometry. MMP-9 in serum was measured with ELISA; high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in serum was measured with immune velocity method. Results The EMMPRIN MFI on PBMCs in SAP group, STEMI group and NSTE ACS group was higher than that in the normal control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The EMMPRIN MFI in STEMI group and NSTE ACS group was higher than that in SAP group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The expression characteristic of EMMPRIN on the PBMCs was consistent with that of hs-CRP and MMP-9 in each group. The EMMPRIN MFI of the PBMCs had positive correlation with the level of MMP-9 and hs-CRP in serum (r=0.168,P<0.05;r=0.305,P<0.01). Conclusion EMMPRIN may has promotive effect on the formation of atherosclerosis and unstablility of coronary heart disease as an upstream regulatory factor of MMPs

Chemical constituents from the acetone extract of twigs of Manglietia hookeri were isolated and purified by various column chromatographic methods over silica gel and sephadex LH-20, and preparative TLC. The structures of these compounds were identified on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectral analysis, including NMR and MS spectra. Six eudesmane sesquiterpenes were obtained and their structures were identified as trans-eudesmane-4, 11-diol(1), β-eudesmol(2), (-) -10-epi-5β-hydroxy-β-eudesmol (3), epi-carrisone (4), 6-hydroxy-eudesm-4(14) -ene(5) and gynurenol(6). All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time. Furthermore, the 13C-NMR data of compound 3 were reported for the first time.

Chinese Medical Journal 2012;125(20):3730-3734
BACKGROUNDThe recurrence of pterygium after surgery is high. A variety of adjunctive treatment approaches have been developed to improve the clinical efficacy and many related articles have been published. This study aimed to determine the risk for postoperative pterygium recurrence comparing autologous conjunctival transplantation (ACT) versus mitomycin C (MMC).
METHODSRelevant literature published until December 2010 in Medline, Embase, Cochrane, Cochrane library, Science Citation Index, and Google Scholar were searched. Qualified random clinical trial (RCT) studies on the comparison of recurrence rate of pterygium after ACT and MMC treatment were included in this study.
RESULTSEight RCTs with 663 eyes entered the final analysis. The recurrent rate of pterygium was 8.7% (30/343) for ACT and 18.75% (60/320) for MMC. Using fixed-effect meta analysis, we found that the recurrence was significantly lower after ACT than MMC treatment (odds ratio (OR) = 0.40, 95% confidence index (CI), 0.25 - 0.63, P < 0.0001). In sensitivity analyses, we employed random-effects model and excluded studies of low quality or studies in which MMC was administrated after the operation. All the sensitivity analyses confirmed that ACT led to lower recurrence rates than MMC. Sub-group analysis revealed that the recurrence rate was 20.2% (20/99) and 27.65% (26/94) for conjunctival autograft (CA) and MMC respectively, and no significant difference in the recurrence rate was detected (OR = 0.65, 95%CI 0.33 - 1.28, P = 0.22). However, we found that conjunctival limbal autograft (CLA) had lower recurrence rate than MMC (OR = 0.26, 95%CI 0.14 - 0.48, P = 0.0001).
CONCLUSIONCLA has better therapy efficacy against the recurrence of pterygium than MMC.

PURPOSE: The aim of this research was to assess the value of the transitional zone index (TZI) and intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP) from transrectal ultrasonography in evaluating the severity and progression of disease by analyzing the relationship between the 2 parameters and symptoms, clinical history, and urodynamics in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients undergoing different treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 203 patients receiving medication and 162 patients who underwent transurethral resection of the prostate because of BPH were enrolled in this retrospective analysis. The clinical history and subjective and objective examination results of all patients were recorded and compared after being classified by TZI and IPP level. Linear regression was used to find correlations between IPP, TZI, and urodynamics. RESULTS: The 2 parameters were found to differ significantly between patients receiving medication and patients undergoing surgical therapy (p<0.05). PSA, maximum flow rate (Qmax), detrusor pressure at Qmax (PdetQmax), and the bladder outlet obstruction index (BOOI) differed according to various TZI levels (p<0.05). In addition, the voiding symptom score, Qmax, and BOOI of subgroups with various IPP levels were also significantly different (p<0.05). Both TZI and IPP had significant effects on Qmax, BOOI, and PdetQmax (p<0.05) and the incidence of acute urinary retention (p=0.000). CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrated that both TZI and IPP had favorable value for assessing severity and progression in patients with BPH. Further studies are needed to confirm whether the two parameters have predictive value in the efficacy of BPH treatment and could be considered as factors in the selection of therapy.

BACKGROUNDTransurethral resection of prostate (TURP) has been widely used as a golden standard therapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia for over 40 years. However, not all patients achieved favorable outcome postoperatively. Since the level of bladder outlet obstruction and the dysfunction of detrusor (overactive and underactive) were both found to affect surgical efficacy, urodynamics was recommended as routine preoperative examination in selecting proper surgical candidates by International Continence Society in spite of its invasiveness and high cost. The aim of this research was to compare the predictive value between ultrasonography and urodynamics for TURP efficacy and determine if preoperative urodynamic test could be replaced by ultrasonography.
METHODSTwo hundred and seventy-one patients took part in the retrospective analysis. All the subjects had preoperative evaluation of symptoms, life quality, and combined examination of ultrasonography and urodynamics. Surgical efficacy was measured according to the recovery of international prostate symptom score, quality of life score, and maximal flow rate 6 months after TURP. Fisher's linear discriminant analysis was applied to establish the predictive models of surgical efficacy by choosing parameters from ultrasonography or urodynamics as independent factors. Receiver's operating characteristic curve was then plotted to compare the values between the models.
RESULTSSensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of models consisting of parameters from both ultrasonography and urodynamics were favorable. Corresponding models of ultrasonography and urodynamics were found to have non-significant difference in area under curve (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSPreoperative ultrasonography has as strong value as urodynamics does in predicting surgical outcome of patients undergone TURP and might take the place of urodynamics in selecting surgical candidates. Further prospective analysis with larger popularity and longer period of follow up should be launched to verify the result of this research.
