The present study shows that mushroom juice exhibits a significanteffect on growth of L. acidophilus in reconstituted skim milk. When 5% - 10% mushroom juice was added in skim milk, they shorten generation time and the rate of lactic acid production was accelerated. After 10h incubation at 37℃ cell counts of L. acidophilus in test groups were much more than in control group, were up to 108/mL.

Objective To compare maternal and neonatal outcomes after induction, elective cesarean section and spontaneous onset of labor in uncomplicated term nulliparous women. Methods A total of 3751 uncomplicated term nullipara who delivered in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from Sept 2002 to April 2007 were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into three groups:the induction group, the elective cesarean section group, and the spontaneous onset of labor group.Their general conditions (such as age, weeks of pregnancy, hospital days and cost),postpartum complications(such as postpartum hemorrhage, puerperal morbidity, urinary retention, blood transfusion, delayed healing, and trauma),and Apgar score were compared by statistic methods.Results(1)Among 3751 women,501(13.3%)of them underwent induction(the induction group),1634(43.6%)delivered by cesarean section(cesarean section group),the other 1616(43.1%)women underwent spontaneous onset of labor(the spontaneous onset of labor group).(2)Results of general conditions:the spontaneous onset of labor group had the shortest hospital days, which was longer in the induction group, and the longest in the selective cesarean section group(P

OBJECTIVETo investigate the indications for non-surgical management of traumatic splenic rupture.
METHODSFrom Jan. 2002 to Jan. 2008, 36 patients with traumatic splenic rupture underwent non-surgical management in the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University.
RESULTSOf the 36 cases, 32 were successfully managed without surgical interventions, and 4 converted to open surgery. No death occurred in these patients, nor was delayed splenic rupture identified 1 to 5 years after the treatment.
CONCLUSIONHemodynamically index is an important reference to select the patients, and the degree of splenic rupture, the patient's age and conditions of the hospital should be considered.

Objective To investigate the treatment of radi us head fracture through internal fi xation. Methods 42cases of radius head fracture trea ted with internal fixation were foll owed up.Mason classification and Broberg and Morrey criteria were use d to analyze the correlation between the results and the factors of fractu re type and method of fixation.Results42cases were followed up for a mean time of 25months.Evaluation was done according to Broberg and Morrey score systems. The function recovered we ll in 76%of the cases. The results of minor plate group were better than th ose of the screw(P=0.01)or K wire group(P=0.04).The results of Mason typeⅡwere better than those of the typeⅣ(P=0.03).Conclusion Treatment of radius head fracture with internal fixation will improve the elbow function and has better result for Mason typeⅡ.Fixation with minor plate is better than with screw or K wi re.[

OBJECTIVETo investigate the changes of intestinal mucosal tight junction proteins claudin-1, -3, -4 in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and elucidate its possible role in the bowel evacuation habit changes and formation in these patients.
METHODSWestern blotting was employed to determine tight junction protein claudin-1,-3,-4 levels in the intestinal mucosa of patients in the control group, diarrhea-predominant IBS (D-IBS) group and constipation-predominant IBS (C-IBS) group.
RESULTSCompared with the control group, D-IBS patients showed significantly decreased claudin-1 protein levels in both the small intestinal and colonic mucosae (P<0.05), whereas C-IBS patients had significantly elevated claudin-1 protein levels (P<0.05). No significant difference was found in claudin-3 protein expression in the both small intestinal and colonic mucosae between the D-IBS group and the control group (P>0.05), but claudin-3 protein level was shown to increase significantly in C-IBS patients (P<0.05). Claudin-4 protein followed the same pattern of alteration as claudin-1.
CONCLUSIONDown-regulated claudin-1 and -4 expressions can be associated with bowel evacuation habit changes and formation in patients with D-IBS, but up-regulated claudin-1, -3 and -4 expressions may relate to such bowel changes in patients with C-IBS.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the antagonistic effects of three species of oral Streptococcus on the growth of oral Saccharomyces albicans in vitro.
METHODSDirect inoculation method, reverse inoculation method and mixed culture methods were respectively chosen to observe the changes of Saccharomyces albicans colony formation on the effects of Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguis and Streptococcus salivarius.
RESULTS1) No clear inhibition zone was observed in each of the groups by direct inoculation method. 2) Compared with the control groups, Saccharomyces albicans colony formation on soft agar of Streptococcus sanguis decreased significantly (P < 0.05). 3) Mixed culture method results showed that Streptococcus mutans could inhibit the growth of Saccharomyces albicans significantly at different time points (P = 0.001). 4) Under the action of bacteria culture supernatant, the count of Saccharomyces albicans in experiment groups showed statistical significance when compared with the control groups at 24, 48, 72 h (P = 0.001); The differences among the experimental groups were of no statistical significance at majority times (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONStreptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguis, and Streptococcus salivarius could obviously inhibit the growth of Saccharomyces albicans in vitro. However, it is still unclear that among which the inhibition effects is stronger. The antagonistic effects is weakened gradually.

OBJECTIVETo report the clinical results of scalp defect using V-Y-S rotation flap.
METHODSFrom March 2003 to October 2005, 5 cases scalp defect (4 male, 1 female) were reconstructed with the technique. The age ranged from 26 to 52 years (mean 32 years). The scalp defect ranged from 3 cmx3.5 cm to 4 cmx5 cm. Four cases were reconstructed with bilateral flap and one case was reconstructed with unilateral flaps.
RESULTSAll patients were followed-up from 10 to 42 months (mean, 28 months). All the flaps survived completely and showed good hair growth and had satisfactory clinical results.
CONCLUSIONRepair of scalp defect using V-Y-S rotation flap technique is simple with no need for a skin graft and can be performed quickly, there is minimal morbidity and the outcome is highly successful.

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of endovascular deployment of metallic Z-type self- expandable stents in treating the patients with inferior vena eava(IVC)obstruction caused by hepatic malignant tumour. Methods One hundred and fifty six patients with IVC obstruction due to malignant compression were enrolled.Venography was performed via femoral vein before and after metallic Z-type self-expandable stent deployment across the stenotic segment of IVC.The diameter of stenotic segment, collateral vessels, venous pressures and the scores of patients IVC syndrome were compared before and after stent placement. Results One hundred and seventy nine stents were implanted in 156 patients successfully. The average obstructive length of IVC was(6.1?2.2)cm.The pressure gradient of stenotie segments of IVC declined from(2.1?0.5)kPa to (0.5?0.11)kPa.The diameters of stenotic segment of IVC increased from(0.33?0.11 )cm to(1.6?0.4) cm.After operations, the main clinical symptoms and physical signs relieved quickly.During 2~24 month follow-up,the pateney of IVC stents reached 86.7%.Conclusion Endovascular deployment of metallic Z-type self-expandable stent is an effective palliative treatment for patients with malignant obstruction of IVC.
