Objective To investigate a safe, effective and mini-invasive method in the treatment of recurrent cavernous hemangiomas. Methods Under local or ketamine anesthesia, ethanol was injected into hemangioma to embolize the draining vessels, and 8~16 mg pinyangmycin was then injected into the lesion slowly. After 7~10 days, second injection of pinyangmycin and total 3~5 times were needed as a course of treatment. Results In the 6 cases reported, shrinkage and degradation were observed and finally tumor was disappeared. There was no skin necrosis, no recurrence and other complications in the 1~5 years follow-up period. Conclusion Ethanol embolization and pinyangmycin injection is a safe, simple, mini-invasive, and effective method in treating the recurrent cavernous hemangiomas.

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2006;0(12):-
Objective To investigate the prevalence of low T3 syndrome in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI) and explore the effect of low T3 syndrome on outcome of AMI.MethodsThree hundred and thirty-eight patients with AMI admitted to cardiac care unit(CCU) underwent examinations of thyroid function and cardial ultrasound, and were further categorized according to thyroid hormone profile. The records of noninvasive bi-level positive airway pressure(BiPAP)ventilation utilization, length of hospital stay, mortality during hospitalization were evaluated, and the related factors were analysed.ResultsOne hundred and thirty-nine of the 338 patients(41.12%) with AMI complicated with low T3 syndrome.Free triiodothyronine(FT3) was the independent influential factor for length of hospital stay.Low FT3 was significantly correlated with noninvasive BiPAP ventilation utilization and mortality during hospitalization. The average time of follow-up was(21.4?8.1) months. It was revealed by multivariate Cox regression analysis that FT3 was the chief predictor for cumulative death(risk ratio,4.25;95% confidential interval,2.30-7.87),followed by age and left ventricular ejection fraction.ConclusionThe recognition of AMI complicated with low T3 syndrome plays an important role in predicting the disease severity and outcome.

·AIM:To present a case of late onset bilateral keratectasis after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia with rigid gas-permeable contact lenses with a brief review of literature on this subject.·METHODS:A 27-year-old woman underwent bilateral uneventful LASIK for moderate myopia. Preoperative cycloplegic refractions were -5.50/-0.50×50° right eye (OD) and - 4.50/-1.00×15° left eye (OS).Corneal pachymetry was 526μm OD and 541μm OS, Preoperative corneal topography was normal and did not reveal any keratoconus or forme fruste keratoconus.Following the creation of flaps with 160μm plates, ablations of 102μm OD and 86μm OS were performed, estimated to leave residual stromal beds of 264μm OD and 295μm OS.·RESULTS:Twenty-nine months postoperatively, the patient developed bilateral inferior keratectasia of -12.50/-4.00×160° OD and -6.00/- 4.25×125° OS.Visual acuity was reduced in both eyes;the central cornea had steepened; and pachymetry showed central corneal thinning.Keratectasia was diagnosed, and rigid contact lenses were fitted.Three years later, the patient achieved satisfactory visual acuity and all-day lens wear with minimal complications.·CONCLUSION:Late keratectasia may follow LASIK for low to moderate myopia despite a thorough preoperative work-up.Rigid contact lenses can offer a safe, reversible option for improving visual acuity in such patients by delaying or avoiding the need for intracorneal ring segments implanting or penetrating keratoplasty.

Objective To investigate the molecular epidemiology of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in China in 2005.Methods From January to December 2005,395 consecutive and non-repetitive isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus were collected from 17 teaching hospitals in 14 cities. The genotypes of SCCmec were determined by multiplex PCR pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE)was used to type the chromosome DNA of MRSA.Muhilocus sequence typing(MLST)was used to type the housekeeping genes.Fifty-three strains were selected for MLST typing according to the antimicrobials susceptibility patterns,PFGE types,SCCmec types and the distribution of the regions. The toxin gene was detected by PCR.Results Among 395 isolates of MRSA,SCCmec Ⅲ,untypeable type and type Ⅱ accounted for 61.5%(243/395),24.3%(96/395)and 14.2%(56/395)respectively.In Shenyang,60.7%(17/28)of the isolates were SCCmec Ⅱ,which was significantly higher than other areas. Twenty-four different types and 42 subtypes were found by PFGE typing.Clone A accounted for 50.1%, existing in 13 teaching hospitals in 12 cities and clone R accounted for 23.5%,existing in 9 teaching hospitals in 8 cities.Six sequence types(ST)were found in these isolates with ST239 and ST5 accounting for 75.5% and 17.0% among these isolates, respectively. The prevalence of pvl gene was 2.5% among 395 isolates of MRSA.Conclusions The most types of SCCmec in China were Ⅲ and Ⅱ,and distribution of SCCmec types differed among regions.MRSA outbreaks caused by epidemic multiple-drug resistant clones occurred in big teaching hospitals in China.Meanwhile, the same PFGE pattern may spread among areas. Several international epidemic MRSA clones may exist in China.

OBJECTIVETo obtain more information on DNA fingerprintings and to confirm the genetic relationships of ten wide populations of Pinellia tornata.
METHODCollect wide-type or cultivated P. tornata from ten major production areas nation-wide as material. Twelve combinations of EcoR I and Mse I primers were used to asses divergence among ten populations. The data were analyzed using unweighted pair-group method, based on arithmetic averages (UPGMA) bootstrap analysis. Cluster analyses were performed by using NTSYSpc software version 2.1. The alkaloid was extracted from P. ternate with chlorolform and determined in UV absorption spectroscop.
RESULT1,673 bands were applied with 12 combinations. These results of cluster were congruent with differences in total alkloids.
CONCLUSIONThe results of the study showed a potential application of AFLP fingerprinting for identification of P. ternata.
