China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2014;39(20):3889-3898
Traditional Chinese medicine injections (TCMIs) originated in china, which was fast-acting with high bioavailability. TCMI is applied widely in clinic since it plays an important role for therapy severe and acute disease, such as cardiovascular diseases (CVD), infectious diseases, malignancy, and etc. However, the adverse reactions reported of TCMIs are increasing in recent years. For this, the review summarized systematically the reports and researches of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) of TCMIs according to about 100 literatures in the nearly five years. The ADR of TCMIs mainly includes allergic reaction, respiratory damage, digestive system damage, cardiovascular system damage and urinary system damage, and etc. The main causes are relative with complexity, uncertainty and instability of the drug material. Influence of excipients, pharmaceutical technologies, drug combination and application method was also discussed. There are many methods on adverse reactions of TCMIs, including descriptive studies, analytical epidemiology and experimental studies. This article provided necessary information for reasonable application of TCMIs in clinical practice.

Chinese Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery 2005;0(10):-
Objective To investigate the efficacy of minimally invasive treatment by combination of external fixation with limited internal fixation for unstable distal radius fractures. Methods From September 2003 to September 2007,43 patients with unstable distal radius fractures were treated with external fixation combined with Kirschner wire fixation. According to AO classification, there were 10 cases of C1,21 cases of C2,and 12 cases of C3. Two external fixation clamp stand screws were inserted into the dorsal radius in operation, then external clamp stand was fixed when manipulative reduction were performed after C-arm perspective. The broken bones were sledged by Kirschner wire when articular facet and bone block were not peaceful and could not achieve reduction by traction. When the bone block was instable,a Kirschner wire fixation was needed. Bone graft through a limited incision were performed for bone defect if necessary. Results All of the 43 cases achieved anatomical reduction after the operation. The mean operaton time was 62.4 min (range from 43 to 121 min). And the mean intraoperative blood loss was 15.3 ml (ranged from 6 to 30 ml). The patients were discharged from hospital in 3 to 14 days with a mean of 5.5 days. After being discharged, they were followed up for 6 to 24 months (mean,12 months),during which,re-examination showed bone union and improved articular activities in all the cases. According to the Dienst scale system,30 patients achieved excellent,8 were good, and 5 were fair. The rate of excellent and good results was 88.4% (38/43). Conclusion External fixation combined with limited internal fixation is a simple, reliable and effective method for treatment of the unstable distal radius fractures.

Chinese Journal of Digestion 2011;31(9):613-618
Objective To observe the protective effect of probiotics VSL # 3 on the rats of trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid (TNBS) induced acute colitis, and the effect on the expression of tight junction proteins claudins (claudinl, 2, and 3) in colon mucosa. Methods Rat of colitis model was induced by TNBS one time enema. Since the second day after the model established, 2ml 0.9% sodium chloride was intragastric administrated into 8 rats each day (TNBS group), 8 rats with 100 mg VSL # 3 (VSL # 3 group ), another 8 rats with 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) intragastric administration (5-ASA group), and 0.9% sodium chloride was intragastric administrated daily into 5 no modeling rats as control group. All were treated for 7 days and then sacrificed. Fecal samples were collected for bacterial culturing and detecting the changes of colon bacteria colonies. Disease activity index (DAI was calculated according to diarrhea, hemafecia and weight. The colon tissue was taken for HE staining and the pathological changes were observed under microscope. The changes of myeloperoxidase (MPO) level in colon tissue were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression and distribution of claudins 1, 2, and 3 in colon tissue was detected by a novel quantum dots immunofluorescence labeling technique. Results Compared with TNBS group, both VSL # 3 and 5-ASA treatment could improve colitis, as well as decreas DAI and colonic MPO level, and lower the inflammatory score of colitis. Compared with control group, the bacteria counting in the colon of colitis rats changed, the expression of Claudins 1, 2, and 3 expression was significantly increased (average density: 66.200±5.737, 71.780±6.670 and 61.300±5. 199,t=17.237, 27.909and 21.788, all P<0.01). Compared with TNBS group or 5-ASA group, VSL# 3 could adjust the balance of intestinal bacteria and increase the expression of Claudin 1 and 3 (Claudin 1 : 75. 550 ±8.717, 66.200±5.737 and 67.080±5.401;t=9.348, 8. 469; all P<0.05; Claudin-3: 68. 820±7.443, 61.300±5. 199 and 59. 830±5. 930;t=7. 519, 8. 988, all P<0.05), however claudin 2 expression was down-regulated (58. 740±6. 457, 71. 780±6. 670 and 66. 870±5. 791; t= 13. 033,P<0.01, t=8. 123, P<0. 05). Conclusion Probiotics VSL# 3 may enhance the intestinal mucosal barrier function through changing the claudins expression, and play a role in the relief of inflammatory reaction in acute colitis.

Background Research showed that transforming growth factor-β2 (TGF-β2) promotes scar formation. But its mechanism in scarring after glaucoma filtration surgery is worthy of studying. Objective This study was to investigate the effect of TGF-β2 on myofibroblast transition of human Tenon fibroblasts (HTFs) and scarring after glaucoma filtration surgery. Methods Tenon capsular tissue was obtained from 3 patients with strabismus during the surgery and was incubated in DMEM with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS).The cells were collected and passaged in the free-serum medium for 24 hours, and then 1,2,5,10,20 μg/L TGF-β2 was added into the medium respectively,to induce the transformation of HTFs,and 2 μg/L or 5 μg/L TGF-β2 was used to treat the HTFs for 6,24,48 and 72 hours. The control group was not treated with TGF-β2.The expressions of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and phosphorylation of the signaling proteins (pSmad2) in HTFs were detected by Western blot assay. The expressions of α-SMA and F-actin were located by cell immunofluorescine technique under the confocal immunofluorescence microscopy.Cell contractility was determined by collagen gel contraction assays. This study was approved by Ethic Committee of Institute of Surgery Research of Daping Hospital, and informed consent was obtained from each patient or custodian initial of the study. Results The expression of α-SMA protein in the HTFs was increased significantly after the treatment of TGF-β2 in comparison with the control group and reached a peak at 24-48 hours. The α-SMA expression was gradually weakened in the 10 μg/L TGF-β2 groups.Little of α-SMA and F-actin were expressed in the control group. However, strong staining for α-SMA and F-actin were observed in the 1,2 and 5 μg/L TGF-β2 groups and then the staining weakened at the concentration of 10 μg/L.In addition,pSmad2 showed a stronger expression in the 2 μg/L TGF-β2 group than that in the PBS group and FBS group, with the strongest expression in 30 minutes through 2 hours. The untreated gel contracted (78.00±3.13)% from its initial size, and contraction in the 1,2,5,10 μg/L TGF-β2 group were (63.88±1.78)%,(20.69±0.65)%,(19.49-±0.54)%,(16.24±0.84) %,respectively,TGF-β2 increased HTFs contraction significantly (Fgroup =859.400,P =0.000).Conclusions TGF-β2 can induce transdifferentiation of Tenon fibroblast into myofibroblast and increase cell contractility, with a concentration-dependent and time-dependent pattern to an extent. It may be the mechanism of scar formation after glaucoma filter surgery.
