Chinese Journal of Prevention and Control of Chronic Diseases 2006;0(02):-
Objective To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) among residents in Shuimogou district of Urumqi city and to compare the differences between the Uygur and Han Populations. Methods Adopting cluster sampling, a survey of diabetes mellitus was conducted in Shuimogou district in June, 2008. Data of total 2420 subjects aged over 18 years with complete data, including background information of each individual, blood pressure, lipid profile, blood glucose and so on, were analyzed in this study. The criterion of the China Diabetes society (CDS) in 2004 was applied for diagnosis. Results The crude prevalence rates of MS were 12.85% in total, 14.91% in male and 7.39% in female, respectively. The age-standardized prevalence rates of MS were 9.93% in total, 13.58% in male and 6.11% in female. The prevalence rates of MS in male was higher than that in female (P0.05). The prevalence rates of components of MS were 43.31% for obesity, 30.08% for hypertension, 25.79% for hypertriglyceridemia and 16.28 % for hyperglycosemia. Among the four factors above, there were about 65% subjects who had at lest one abnormal factor according to the CDS criterion. Conclusion There were no differences in the prevalence rates of MS between the Uygur and Han populations. However, the prevalence rate of MS in male was higher than that in female. More than half subjects had at least one abnormal metabolic factor.

ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between serum uric acid and prehypertension and the effects of age, obesity, fasting glucose and lipids in Chinese adults.Methods14,451 non-hypertensive cases from a community-based health examination survey in Xuzhou,Jiangsu province of China were enrolled in this study.Blood pressure,BMI,and determination of fasting glucose, lipids and serum uric acid were measured in all cases.ResultsThe odds ratios ( OR,95% CI ) of prehypertension across increased serum uric acid after adjusting for age,sex were 1.0,1.20 ( 1.07 - 1.35 ),1.55 ( 1.36 - 1.76),1.82(1.60-2.09),2.33(2.03-2.67) (Pfor trend <0.01).The odds ratios were 1.0,1,04(0.92-1.18),1.21(1.06-1.38),1.26(1.09 - 1.45),1.36(1.17 - 1.58),( Pfor trend <0.01) after adjusting for age, sex,BMI,glucose, and lipids. In addition, fasting glucose significantly interacted with uric acid ( P for interaction < 0.01 ).Conclusions Serum uric acid was associated with prehypertension, which might be an independent metabolic risk factor.Fasting glucose may reinforce the associations.

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of percutaneous transcatheter selective right portal vein embolization(PVE)in treatment of primary hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods Twelve patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma were treated with right percutaneous transcatbeter PVE under fluoroscopic guidance.Left hepatic lobe volume was measured by CT before and after PVE.Portal vein pressures and changes of liver function were also detected before and after the embolization. Results Right portal vein was embolized successfully in all 12 patients with compensatory hypertrophy of left hepatic lobe.Right hepatic lobe was successfully resected in 3 patients. There were no evidence of hepatic dysfunction and portal hypertension after PVE and also without complication. Conclusions Percutaneous transcathter portal vein branch embolization can induce atrophy of the embolized lobes with compensatory hypertrophy of the remnant liver, providing another operation chance for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo study the effects of soil microbes of habitats on the cuttings rooting of Huperzia serrata and its mechanism.
METHODThe cuttings of H. serrata were planted on the primary habitat soil and on the soil autoclaved, rooting rates were examined respectively. Changes of contents of phenolic compounds (catechin, quercetin, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid) and indoleacetic acid (IAA) , and changes of activities of polyphenoloxidase (PPO) and peroxydase (POD) during the cuttings rooting were determined.
RESULTSoil microbes of primary habitat could increase the rooting rate and the number of roots, could increase contents of catechin, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid and IAA during rooting, and could affect activities of PPO and POD.
CONCLUSIONDuring the rooting higher contents of catechin, chlorogenic, ferulic acid and IAA caused by soil microbes of primary habitat are important factor for rooting rate.

Objective To compare the safety and clinical efficiency between minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy(MPCNL)in supine position and flexible ureteroscopy(FURS)in management of proximal ureteral calculi. Methods From Oct.2010 to May.2012,76 patients with single proximal ureteral calculus between 10-20 mm failed in SWL or other conservative therapy accepted MPCNL (32 cases)or FURS(44 cases). There was no significant difference between the groups in base-line parameters.Stone sizes were(15.6±2.5)mm and(14.9±2.3)mm,P>0.05.Procedural time,post-operative hospitalization stay, complication rates(Clavien degree Ⅱ or over)and stone free rates were compared. Results In these two groups, procedural time was(49.3± 11.7)and(67.2± 17.3)min,P<0.05,postoperative hospitalization stay were(4.2±1.1)and(1.8±0.8)days,P<0.05,complication rates were 12.5% and 6.8%,P>0.05 and stone free rates(residual fragments≤3 mm)were 93.7% and 84.1%,P>0.05.Conclusions For patients with surgically indicated proximal ureteral calculi, both minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy in supine position and flexible ureteroscopy are effective and safe therapeutic modalities.Patients treated with flexible ureteroscopy have faster postoperative recovery.

Photoaffinity labeling is widely applied to demonstrate targets of small molecule ligands. In this paper, biotin photoaffinity labeled molecule with propargyl group 1 has been designed and synthesized, followed it's labeling of N2-acetyl-2'-O-propargyl guanosine 9 by "click chemistry". This technology presents delight development potential in labeling of second messenger cyclic nucleotide, antisense oligonucleotide or siRNA.

OBJECTIVETo study the effects of soil microbes of habitats, endophytic fungi and root surface fungi of Huperzia serrata on rooting rate of the cuttings and on several physiological and biochemical indexes.
METHODThe cuttings of H. serrata were planted on soil I of primary habitat, the soil II had been inoculated endophytic fungi and root surface fungi, the soil III had been auto-claved, rooting rate was examined, and soluble protein and soluble sugar contents, activities of PPO and POD, flavonoids and huperzine A contents were determined.
RESULTCompared with the H. serrata that were planted on soil III, soil I and soil II were found to increase the rooting rate by 10% and 16%, soil II increased the soluble protein contents of stem of H. serrata (P < 0.05), Soil I increased the soluble sugar contents of leaves and stem of H. serrata (P < 0.05), soil I and Soil II increased the flavonoids contents of H. serrata (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSoil microbes from primary habitat, endophytic fungi and root surface fungi promote rooting, they also increase plant metabolism level of H. serrata.
