BACKGROUND: Pityriasis versicolor(PV) is a superficial mycosis, theoretically unusual in children. Epidemiologic and clinical data for children with PV under 14 years were collected. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical features of PV in the young. METHOD: We included all cases of PV in patients under 14 years of age observed in our department from 1981 to 1995. All cases were diagnosed on the basis of clinical criteria and were confirmed by microscopic examination. RESULTS: From 1981 to 1995 we encountered 32 cases of PV in children, compared with 637 cases in adults; thus children represented 4.7% of all cases. The ratio of male to female was l. 7:1. Among the age groups, the incidence was the highest in the 10-14 years(43%). The monthly prevalence was the highest in August. Distribution of the lesions were the face(40.9%), neck (25%), chest(13.6%), back(11.3%), extremities(6.8%) and abdomen(2.2%). The incidence of hypopigmented lesions was 70.4% and that of hyperpigmented lesions was 29.6%. CONCLUSION: This study confirms that the face is a predilectionl site for PV in children and all facial lesions are hypopigmented. Other clinical features are variable and similar to those of adults.

Chinese Journal of Trauma 2012;28(7):620-623
Objective To summarize the efficacy of cervical pedicle screw fixation in the treatment of cervical spinal cord injury without fracture and dislocation. Methods From September 2007 to March 2010,21 patients with cervical spinal cord injury without fracture and dislocation combined with developmental cervical stenosis were managed by pedicle screw fixation in unstable segments, and then single open-door laminoplasty in stenosis segments. The clinical outcomes were reviewed and summarized. Results All the patients received follow-up of 1-3 years. Two patients had superficial wound infection, which was cured by dressing change. One presented intra-incisional hematoma one week post-operatively and was cured by hemostasis and drainage. One had door-reclosing without symptom aggravation. There was neither perforation of pedicle screws nor breakage, loosening or displacement of internal fixation. The curvature of cervical lordosis at follow-up had significant rectification in comparison with that at preoperation, but showed unobvious change as compared with that immediately after operation.According to the modified Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, the neurological score improved from preoperative 4-15 points to 9-17 points at the final follow-up,which revealed more than 80% of recovery in 13 patients,50% -80% of recovery in six and 5% -50% of recovery in two, with the average recovery rate of 75%.Conclusion For unstable segments in patients with cervical spinal cord injury without fracture and dislocation combined with developmental spinal stenosis, posterior pedicle screw fixation can avoid the risk of further spinal cord injury in single open-door laminoplasty and restore the physiological curvature of cervical vertebrae, which provides solid foundation for backward drift of spinal cord and creates favorable condition for recovery of spinal cord function.

Objective To investigate whether sex,age-of-onset,education and asymmetry affect non-motor symptoms (NMS)in Parkinson disease, and to analyze the relationship between motor symptoms and NMS in Parkinson's disease. Methods The detailed clinical information of 157 patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease(PD)was recorded and followed up.The data was calculated with SPSS statistic software.Sex had an impact on sleeping disorder (P< 0.05).Sleep disorder in female was more prominent.Cognitive disorder was affected by age-of-onset and education duration. The pain and sensory disorder were affected by age-of-onset (P < 0.05).Differences in the effects of asymmetry on NMS were not statistically significant (P> 0.05).The higher the scores of postural instability and gait difficulty (PIGD)were, the lower the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE)score was(β=-1.837,P =0.004).The higher the tremor score was,the higher the Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD) score was(β=3.460,P =0.001).The higher the rigidity akinesia score was,the higher the autonomic dysfunction score was(β=0.104,P=0.006).Conclusions The non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease are affected by the age,sex and cultural level.Symmetryor-not does not affect Parkinson's disease.Non-motor symptoms and motor symptoms are closely linked. The encountered posture and gait abnormalities of patients should trigger physician alerts to focus on patients' cognitive function. The encountered tremor of patients should trigger physician alerts to focus on their emotional changes.Facing to the patient with rigidity and less moving, physician should alert to the occurrence of autonomic symptoms.

ObjectiveTo explore the characteristics of the metabolite concentrations of the precentral gyrus in healthy Chinese adults using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS).Methods 1H-MRS was carried out in 92 healthy Chinese adult volunteers. The metabolite ratios of NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr and NAA/Cho were compared and analysed.ResultsNo significant changes of NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr and NAA/Cho ratios were observed between the left and right precentral gyrus, nor between the male and female. However, the precentral gyrus NAA/Cr and NAA/Cho ratios were decreased gradually with aging and Cho/Cr ratios were increased gradually with aging.ConclusionThe characteristics of the precentral gyrus metabolite concentrations in healthy Chinese adults have been obtained.

Clinical data of 289 patients aged 60 years old and above with acute intestinal obstruction operated in Drum Tower Hospital during June 2010 to December 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. Among 289 cases, 97 cases(33.6%)had tumor, 66(22.8%)had external hernias, 44(15.2%)had adhesions, 36(12.5%)had volvulus, 20(6.9%)had internal hernias, 8(2.8%)had intussusception and 18(6.2%)had other causes. Of 156 strangulated intestinal obstruction cases, 51 cases(32.7%)had external hernias,36(23.1%)had volvulus, 26(16.7%)had adhesions, 18(11.5%)had internal hernias, 14(9.0%)had tumor, 8(5.1%)had intussusception, and 3(1.9%)had other causes. There was a history of abdominal surgery in 88.6%(39/44)cases of adhesion, 85.0% (17/20) cases of internal hernia and 61.1%(22/36)cases of volvulus. For patients with acute intestinal obstruction caused by intestinal tumor, the cases of small bowel obstruction, strangulated intestinal obstruction and the strangulated large bowel were significantly less than those of large bowel obstruction, the non-strangulated intestinal obstruction and the non-strangulated large bowel obstruction (5 vs. 92, 14 vs. 80, 12 vs. 83, respectively; all P<0.05). For patients with strangulated intestinal obstruction caused by external hernias, volvulus, internal hernias and intussusception were significantly more than those with non-strangulated intestinal obstruction groups(51 vs.15, 36 vs. 0, 18 vs. 2, 8 vs. 0, respectively; P<0.05). The patients with strangulated large bowel obstruction caused by external hernias( n=4) and volvulus( n=9)were significantly more than those with non-strangulated large bowel obstruction( n=1 and 0, respectively; P<0.05). The patients with strangulated small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions( n=26)and volvulus( n=27)were significantly more than those with non-strangulated small bowel obstruction( n=18 and 0,respectively; P<0.05).The study showed that the principal causes of emergency operation for acute intestinal obstruction and strangulated intestinal obstruction are intestinal tumor and external hernias in elderly patients.

Measurements of mitral flow velocity by pulsed Doppler echocardiography are very useful in evaluating left ventricular diastolic filling properties. In hypertensive patients, abnormalities of diastolic function may precede systolic abnormalities and may serve as a more sensitive marker of end organ damage. We estimated left ventricular nass by 2-D echo short axis area-length method and compared with peak mitral flow velocity in early diastole(PFVE)and during atrial systolic(PFVA). There was a significant increase of LV mass and LV mass indices in the hypertensive patients and PFVE/PFVA ratio was decreased in them. Aithough there was no relationship between blood pressure and PFVE/PFVA ratio, a significant relationship was demonstrated between LV mass index and PFVE/PFVA ratio in the hypertensive patients.
