This article was aimed to study the inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis by β-el-emene extract from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Rhizoma Zedoariae on human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cells, as well as the effect on expression of apoptosis-related proteins in liver cancer-burdened H22 mice. Human HepG2 cells were cultured in vitro. MTT method was used in the determination of β-elemene on cell prolif-eration. Apoptosis of cells were detected by the Annexin V-FITC/PI double staining method. Through the establish-ment of liver cancer-burdened H22 mice model, the inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis-related protein expression by β-elemene on tumor-burdened mice were observed. The results showed that β-elemene inhib-ited HepG2 cell proliferation, which was dose- and time-dependent. Annexin V-FITC/PI method detected early apoptotic cells. Inhibitions of tumor growth on tumor-burdened mice from different groups were different. Inhibition of tumor growth in the high-dose β-elemene group was relatively low, and that of the middle-dose was more obvi-ous. It was concluded that β-elemene can effectively inhibit human HepG2 cells proliferation. The inhibition on pro-liferation of cancer cells was through the inducing of cell apoptosis. It was also related to the upregulation of apopto-sis-related protein Caspase-3 and downregulation of NF-κB P65.

Objective To investigate the schistosomiasis japonica infection and preventive knowledge of immigration popula-tion in Jinshan District,Shanghai so as to provide the evidence for improving the control work. Methods The immigration popula-tion from schistosomiasis endemic provinces and local people were screened by serum IHA screening for schistosome infection, and the positives were further examined by Kato-Katz technique and the miracidium hatching method. The schistosomiasis preven-tive knowledge and behaviors were investigated by questionnaires. Results A total of 579 were investigated with 348 immigration people and 231 local people, and among them, the male accounted for 72.0%and female accounted for 28.0%. In the immigration population, the main age group was 20-29(56.0%),and 56.6%of the immigration had an education level at senior middle school or higher. The most proportion of immigration was from Anhui Province(36.2%). There were 4 IHA positive persons(1.15%)in the immigration, and 1 was positive in the stool test, and the schistosome infection rate was 0.29%. There were no positives in the local people. The schistosomiasis preventive knowledge of the immigration was generally poor, and some people’s behaviors of see doctor and medication were incorrect. Conclusion There are schistosome infected persons among the immigration population from schistosomiasis endemic provinces, and their schistosomiasis prevention knowledge was poor, thus there is a schistosomiasistransmission risk.

A series of isoindoline derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their double inhibitory activities. All of them were new compounds, and their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR and HR-MS. Preliminary in vitro pharmacological tests showed that all compounds exhibited 5-HT or NE reuptake inhibition activity. Among the tested compounds, compound I-3 exhibited potent inhibitory activity against 5-HT and NE reuptake in vitro, and exhibited potent antidepressant activity in vivo. These compounds designed can be further optimized for finding more potent 5-HT/NE dual reuptake inhibitors and antidepressant candidates as well.

Objective To study the recovery mechanism of dysphagic patients after stroke using functional magnetic resonanee imaging(fMRI). Methods Thirteen patients with dysphagia caused by unilateral cortical or subcortical lesions were recruited into a dysphagia group, and eight age-matched healthy volunteers were recruited as controls. Both grouDs performed experimental volitional swallowing tasks during fMRI studies. All patients of the dys-phagia group received rehabilitation treatment targeting dysphagia.Of the 13 dysphagia patients,7 reached almost complete recovery and were identified as recovered in follow-up fMRI studies.A 3.0 T MR scanner and echo planar imaging(EPI)T_2 WI sequence were employed to obtain the fMRI data.SPM2 software was used for post-processing of the fMRI data and displaying activated brain maps.Lateral index(LI)was calculated as LI:(C-1)/(C+I).Paired t tests were used to compare activated brain volume before and after complete recovery. Results Consistent activation of the bilateral primary sensorimotor cortex, anterior cingulated gyrus and the bilateral insular cortex were observed in the control group. Activation of the pons, medulla, left cerebellum, left prefrontal area, right occipital area and the left insular cortex were observed in the dysphagia group.Activation was observed in the bilateral primary sensorimotor cortex.bilateral prefrontal area, bilateral superior temporal gyrus, left insular cortex, bilateral frontal o-pereulum and anterior cingulated gyrus in the recovered patients. The total activated volume before recovery in the ip-silesional hemisDhere was significantly less compared with the contralesional hemisphere in the dysphagia group. In the recovered patients, both the activated brain volume of the ipsilesional hemisphere and value of LI were significant-ly larger than those at the initial examination. Conclusions Decreased activation in the sensorimotor cortex, the in-sular lobe and the cingulate gyms might be causes.of dysphagia.Compensation by the contralesional hemisphere in the early stages and then the restoration of the ipsilesional hemisphere after recovery may be mechanisms of dysphagia recovery in stroke patients.
