Objective To research patients with ophthalmologic perioperative information systems, strengthening the information management of nursing work, achieving consensus and sharing of health care information resources, and then to explore the clinical application effects of this ophthalmologic peri- opera-tive information systems. Methods The convenient sampling method was used in the study. The control group was consisted of 1 740 patients in our hospital from January to March 2013 (before the application of ophthalmologic perioperative information systems). The observation group included 2 078 patients of the same hospital (after the application of ophthalmologic perioperative information systems). The control group adopted routine pre- operative information acquisition method, the observation group applied ophthalmologic perioperative information systems, which included input function, reading function and statistical function. The incidence rate of canceled operation and satisfaction were compared between two groups. Results Ophthalmologic peri- operative information systems provided patients with information gathering, query and analysis in different periods. The rate of the canceled operation reduced in the observation group from 3.74% (65/1 740) to 2.69% (56/2 078) in the control group, χ2=3.91, P<0.05. The satisfaction degree increased from 91.84 % (1 598/1 740) in the observation group to 96.78% (2 011/2 078) in the control group, χ2=44.60, P<0.05, the difference was statistically different. The hospitalization days from April to September in 2013 shortened compared with those of the same period in 2012. Conclusions Ophthalmologic peri- operative information systems promotes the scientific and informatization of nursing information, which is worthy of wide clinic application.

OBJECTIVETo determine the prevalence of saliva Helicobacter pylori in Lanzhou and investigate Helicobacter pylori-related diseases.

METHODSHelicobacter pylori was detected through bacterial culture, Gram stain microscopy, and urease test from saliva samples collected from 941 residents of Lanzhou. The infection rate and growth of Helicobacter pylori among the residents were analyzed in terms of different oral health conditions, oral disease, gender, urban and rural status, and age.

RESULTSThe rate of Helicobacter pylori-positive saliva in Lanzhou was 42.72%. The status of Helicobacter pylori infection showed significant difference among subjects with different oral hygiene and oral diseases. The rate of Helicobacter pylori-positive saliva among females was 47.89%, which was greater compared with the rate among males (38.45%, P = 0.004, chi2 = 8.492). The rate of Helicobacter pylori-positive saliva in the town was 33.99%, which was less than the rate for the villages (50.93%, P = 0.000, chi2 = 27.551). The rate of Helicobacter pylori-positive saliva among residents aged 10 to 59 showed a flat trend with no significant differences. However, the rate of Helicobacter pylori-positive saliva among residents over 60 years old showed a significant increase. No significant difference was found in the growth of saliva Helicobacter pylori (P = 0.086).

CONCLUSIONThe rate of Helicobacter pylori-positive saliva is related to the subjects' oral hygiene, oral disease, gender, age, and living conditions.

Objective:To study the pentraxin 3 (PTX3),hypersensitive c-reactive protein (the hs-CRP) and rheumatic heart disease ( RHD) correlation and significance .Methods:40 healthy people with the same period in hospital as contral ,and selected 76 cases hospitalized patients with rheumatic ( excluding artificial after valve replacement in patients with rheumatic ) , according to the Color Doppler Echocardiography and electrocardiogram ( ECG ) were divided into the atrial fibrillation rhythm group ( 48 cases ) and sinus rhythm group ( 28 cases ) combined valve lesion group ( 46 cases ) and single valve lesion group ( 30 cases ) using immune enhanced turbidimetric method to determine the hs-CRP, enzyme-linked immunosorbent ( ELISA ) method to detect the contents of PTX3.Results:①RHD group serum hs CRP and PTX 3 level obviously was higher than the control group ( P<0.01 );②the level of serum PTX3 rheumatic atrial fibrillation group was obviously higher than that of sinus rheumatic group ( P<0.01 ) , but the hs-CRP serum level of rheumatic atrial fibrillation group and sinus rheumatic group had no statistical difference ( P>0.05 );③PTX3 level and hs-CRP levels in combined valve lesion group were higher than in single valve disease group (P<0.05).Conclusion:PTX3 and hs-CRP persist in rheumatic heart disease , rheumatic valvular disease of the seriousness of the hs-elevated CRP and PTX3 concentration.PTX3 is one of the influence factors of rheumatic atrial fibrillation occurred ,PTX3 higher stability in rheumatic heart disease inflammatory response performance .

Objective To investigate the effect of perceived service quality improvement during reasonable use of intraoperative period among patient′s relatives by the application of process management model in Ophthalmology Department.Methods We investigated 100 relatives of patients who had surgery from July to September in 2013 by questionnaire.The investigation included the appropriate time to educate health knowledge and satisfaction degrees.Results The relatives′satisfaction degree was beyond 95% at one-to-one tutorials, repeated surgical knowledge on TV, the process of changing and attitude of medical staff in waiting time.For the appropriate time to educate, 70%of relatives believed the waiting time was the right time, but 27%of them preferred acquired after operation, and 3%of them had indifference of time.Conclusions Process management model plays a significant role to improve the perceived service quality of the relatives during the waiting time when the patients are having surgeries in Ophthalmology Department.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of early oral fluid resuscitation on hemodynamic and tissue perfusion in dogs with severe burn shock.

METHODSEighteen male Beagle dogs with intubation of carotid artery, jugular vein, stomach, jejunum and bladder for 24 h were subjected to a 50%TBSA full-thickness burn, then were equally divided into non fluid resuscitation (NR), oral resuscitation (OR) and intravenous resuscitation(IR) groups, (each n = 6). Dogs in IR and OR groups were given glucose-electrolyte solution (GES) by gastric tube or intravenous infusion according to Parkland formula within 24 h after burn, while those in NR group were not given any treatment. Dogs in each group were given intravenous fluid resuscitation from 24 h after burn. The mean arterial pressure (MAP), cardiac output (CO), systemic vascular resistance (SVR), dp/dt max of left ventricular contractility (dp/dt(max)), gastric carbon dioxide pressure (PgCO2), intestinal mucosal blood flow (IMBF), and urinary output were determined before burn (0 h) and 2, 4, 8, 24, 48 and 72 h after burn at no anaesthesia state. Mortality rate of 72 h after burn was also recorded.

RESULTSMAP, CO, dp/dt(max), IMBF greatly decreased, and SVR and PgCO2 obviously increased from 2 h after burn in each group (P < 0.01). The measurements except IMBF of IR group returned to pre-injury levels at 72 h after burn, while CO, SVR, PgCO2 and IMBF of OR group still worse compared with 0 h (P < 0.01). All measurements of NR group kept on worsen, and died with anuria within 24 h after burn. Parameters of hemodynamic and tissue perfusion of OR group were significantly superior to those of NR group, but it inferior to those of IR group. At 72 h after burn, 6 (6/6) survived in IR group, 3 (3/6) in OR group and 0 (0/6) in NR group.

CONCLUSIONSAlthough oral resuscitation with GES is not as efficient as intravenous resuscitation in a 50%TBSA burn injury, it still can promote hemodynamic, improve the tissue perfusion and reduce the mortality comparing to no resuscitation. Oral resuscitation might be an ideal alternative way of intravenous resuscitation, especially in wars or other site of mass casualties.

Butyrate, normally produced by probiotics in the gut, not only provides energy for cells, but also changes the phosphorylation, acetylation and methylation levels of many proteins in cells. As a result, it affects the expression of many genes and the transmission of cell signals. Through G protein-coupled receptors, butyrate promotes the secretion of intestinal mucus and the formation of epithelial barriers, and attenuates the impacts of the pathogenic bacteria and their metabolites on human body. The Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are a group of pattern recognition receptors, and their activation causes the translocation of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) from the cytoplasm to the nucleus and eventually leads to expression and secretion of various pro-inflammatory factors and chemokines. The expression of TLRs is also involved in the pathogenesis of some inflammatory diseases and tumors. The purpose of this review is to summarize the effects of butyrate on TLRs and their downstream signaling pathways. We not only summarized the production of butyrate, the expression of TLRs and the influence of their interaction on the body under the conditions of inflammation and tumor, but also discussed the potential role of butyrate as a bacterial metabolite in the treatments of some human diseases.

BACKGROUNDMeningioma is one of the most common primary tumors of the central nervous system, but there are not many detailed studies on the sex, age, subtypes and locations of large series. This study was a retrospective analysis of the characteristics of meningioma cases consecutively operated on at a single institution in China from 2001 to 2010.

METHODSThis study investigated the demographic background of 7084 meningioma cases, and the subtypes and locations of the tumors. Sex and age distributions were analyzed, and the pathological subtypes were classified according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification. The location of the meningiomas was also categorized.

RESULTSThe female:male ratio of the 7084 cases was 2.34:1. The mean age was 51.4 years (range, 11 months-86 years). The mean age of cases of WHO grade I meningioma was significantly older than that of grade II or III meningiomas (P < 0.001, Fisher's Least Significant Digit test). There was a significantly higher female:male ratio in WHO grade I meningiomas than in grade II or grade III meningiomas (2.57, 1.03 and 0.76, respectively; P < 0.001, χ(2) test). Meningothelial (n = 2061) and fibrous meningiomas (n = 3556) were the most common subtypes, comprising 79.3% of all meningiomas. All meningioma cases were classified into 23 locations in this study, with the cerebral convexity the most common site (38.33%, n = 2722). Cases with uncommon locations such as extra-cranial and sylvian fissure meningiomas were also present in this series.

CONCLUSIONSFemale predominance was found for benign meningiomas, while malignant subtypes showed male predominance. The mean age of patients with WHO grade I meningiomas was older than that of patients with higher-grade tumors. Meningothelial and fibrous meningiomas were the most common subtypes. The cerebral convexity was the most common meningioma location.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has yet to be proven to alter male reproductive function, particularly in the majority of mild/asymptomatic patients. The purpose of this study was to explore whether mild/asymptomatic COVID-19 affects semen quality and sex-related hormone levels. To find suitable comparative studies, a systematic review and meta-analysis was done up to January 22, 2022, by using multiple databases (Web of Science, PubMed, and Embase). Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were used to identify and choose the studies. Meta-analysis was used to examine the semen parameters and sex-related hormones of mild/asymptomatic COVID-19 patients before and after infection. The effects of semen collection time, fever, and intensity of verification on semen following infection were also investigated. A total of 13 studies (n = 770) were included in the analysis, including three case-control studies, six pre-post studies, and four single-arm studies. A meta-analysis of five pre-post studies showed that after infection with COVID-19, sperm concentration (I² = 0; P = 0.003), total sperm count (I² = 46.3%; P = 0.043), progressive motility (I² = 50.0%; P < 0.001), total sperm motility (I² = 76.1%; P = 0.047), and normal sperm morphology (I² = 0; P = 0.001) decreased. Simultaneously, a systematic review of 13 studies found a significant relationship between semen collection time after infection, inflammation severity, and semen parameter values, with fever having only bearing on semen concentration. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in sex-related hormone levels before and after infection in mild/asymptomatic patients. Mild/asymptomatic COVID-19 infection had a significant effect on semen quality in the short term. It is recommended to avoid initiating a pregnancy during this period of time.
