This study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture treatment for diabetic peripheral neuropathy.MEDLINE, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang database were searched. The study endpoints included clinical total efficacy, peripheral nerve conduction velocity and adverse reactions. The Review Manager software 5.2 was used in the bias and risk assessment as well as efficacy. GRADE profiler software was used to evaluate quality of evidences. The results showed that there were 18 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 1158 patients included. The clinical total efficacy rate of acupuncture treatment was obviously better than the drug control group [RR: 1.38, 95%CI (1.25, 1.53),P < 0.000 01]. The sensory nerve conduction velocity was that for nervus medianus, the acupuncture treatment group was superior to the drug control group [MD = 2.55, 95%CI (1.23, 3.87),P = 0.000 1]; for nervus peroneus communis, the acupuncture treatment group was superior to the drug control group [MD = 3.42, 95%CI (2.56, 4.28),P < 0.000 01]. The motor nerve conduction velocity was that for nervus medianus, the acupuncture treatment group was superior to the drug control group [MD= 4.10, 95%CI (1.01, 7.19),P = 0.009); for the nervus peroneus, the acupuncture treatment group was superior tothe drug control group [MD = 3.09, 95%CI (1.99, 4.19),P < 0.000 01]. The adverse reactions and safety indicators were that no adverse reaction was reported in both studies with no abnormal safety indicator. The quality of evidence showed that the sensory nerve conduction velocity for nervus peroneus communis was moderate; the motor nerve conduction velocities for nervus medianus and nervus peroneus communis were low. While, the clinical efficacy rate and the quality of evidence for sensory nerve conduction velocity of nervus medianus were relatively low. It was concluded that the current clinical evidences were uncertain for the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in diabetic peripheral neuropathy treatment.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2013;29(6):518-524
Exposure to thermal environment is one of the main concerns for manned space exploration. By focusing on the works performed on thermoregulation at microgravity or simulated microgravity, we endeavored to review the investigation on space thermal environmental physiology. First of all, the application of medical requirements for the crew module design from normal thermal comfort to accidental thermal emergencies in a space craft will be addressed. Then, alterations in the autonomic and behavioral temperature regulation caused by the effect of weightlessness both in space flight and its simulation on the ground are also discussed. Furthermore, countermeasures like exercise training, simulated natural ventilation, encouraged drink, etc., in the protection of thermoregulation during space flight is presented. Finally, the challenge of space thermal environment physiology faced in the future is figured out.

To ensure the quality and safety of Panax notoginseng, a method for the simultaneous determination of 10 mycotoxins in Panax notoginseng was developed using ultra performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). The sample was extracted with acetonitrile and purified by HLB multifunction cleanup column. The separation was performed on a Phenomenex Kinetex XB-C18 column by gradient elution using methanol and 5 mmol·L(-1) ammonium acetate as mobile phase. The targeted compounds were detected in MRM mode by mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (ESI) source operated in both positive and negative ionization modes. The linear relationships of the 10 mycotoxins were good in their respective linear ranges. The correlation coefficients (r) ranged from 0.9981 to 1.0000. The LOQs of the 10 mycotoxins were between 0.15 and 8.6 μg·kg(-1). The average recoveries ranged from 73.8% to 107.0% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 0.10%-10.9%. The results demonstrated that the proposed method was sensitive and accurate, and suitable for the mycotoxins quantification in Panax notoginseng.

Objective To establish the orthotopic human pancreatic cancer model in mice and study the method to detect the tumor growth. Methods Human pancreatic cancer cell lines SW1990 in logarithmic phase was made into cell suspension and in situ injected into the envelope of pancreatic tail of BALB/c nude mice. High-frequency endoscopy ultrasound was used to observe the growth of tumor mass and its imaging characteristics were studied. Results 20 nude mice were successfully implanted, and 1 died 25 h after implantation. 14 days after implantation, the tumor of pancreatic cancer on EUS was (8.09 ± 2.61) mm3, the tumor appeared as homogeneous hypoechoic mass with clear boundary, and envelope as well as sound halo was present, and the shape was regular; there was low speed circular vasculature signal in around 30% of tumor. The tumor size increased to (12.40 ± 3.51)mm3, and the shape of 70% tumor was irregular, and some appeared as lobulated, and the tumor appeared as heterogeneous hypoechoic mass, no necrosis or liquefaction was found 28 days after implantation. There was low speed circular vasculature signal in around 70% tumors. Conclusions The orthotopic pancreatic cancer model in nude mouse can be established by in situ injection and this method is relatively ideal because it is simple and effective. The high frequency probe of endoscopic ultrasonograph is a reliable method for monitoring implanted pancreatic cancer.
