Objective To explore the correlation factors for surgical treatment in lumbar spinal tuberculosis.Methods A total of 46 patients with lumbar spinal tuberculosis who underwent surgical treatment were analyzed.The possible correlation between the clinicopathologic features and clinical outcome were analyzed by Logistic regression analysis.Results Nine patients failed in surgical treatment.Multiple analysis showed that the number of infected vertebrae (OR =6.44,95％ CI:2.47-19.92) and internal fixation (OR =10.76,95％ CI:3.50-18.74) had significant correlation with the clinical outcome.Conclusions Surgical treatment for lumbar spinal tuberculosis has a favorable outcome in patients.The number of infected vertebrae and internal fixation are significant risk factors for poor outcome.

Using the complete genome of Plasmodiumfalciparum 3D7 which has 14 chromosomes as an example, we have examined the distribution functions for the amount of C or G and A or T consecutively and non-overlapping blocks of m bases in this system. The function P(S) about the number of the consecutive C-G or A-T content cluster conforms to the relation P(S)oce-as;values of the scaling exponent αCG are much larger than αAT; and αAT of 14 chromosomes are hardly changed, whereas αCG of 14chromosomes have a number of fluctuations. We found maximum value of A-T cluster size is much larger than C-G, which implies the existence of large A-T cluster. Our study of the width function ξ(m) of cluster C-G content showed that follows good power law ξ(m)ocm-γ. The average γ for 14 chromosomes is 0.931. These investigations provide some insight into the nucleotide clusters of DNA sequences, and help us understand other properties of DNA sequences.

Purpose　The aim is to study the inhibiting effect s of nineteen amino acids to E.coli,St.aureus and B.Subtilis.Metho ds　The qualitative inhibition of nineteen amino acids on E.coli ,St.aureus and B.Subtilis was determined using filter papers treated by saturated amino acids placed on the bacteria medium dish.The quantitative inhibi ting effects of the amino acids which were proved to have inhibition to these th ree bacteria were determined in the bacteria LB medium with different concentrations of amin o acids.Results　It was indicated that cysteine was used to in hibit St.aureus.The best inhibiting time was 6 hours,and the optimum of concentrat ion was 0.625% in which the inhibiting rate was 92.62%.Conclusion　 Cysteine could inhibit St. aureus.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect and safety of extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) in the treatment of pain symptom of type III B prostatitis.

METHODSWe treated 50 cases of type III B prostatitis by ESW once a week for 4 weeks. Then we evaluated the clinical effect and safety of the therapy based on the NIH-CPSI scores, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, IIEF-5 scores, prostate volume and morphous, state of urination, color of urine, results of routine semen analysis, and changes of cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α and IL-1β) in expressed prostatic secretion (EPS).

RESULTSAll the patients successfully accomplished the treatment. Compared with the baseline, decreases were observed after 4 weeks of cytokine treatment in the pain scores (14. 61 ± 1. 82 vs 9. 36 ± 1. 47, P <0. 01), urination symptom scores (4. 59 ± 1. 01 vs.4. 66 ± 0. 89, P >0. 05) , quality of life scores (6. 51 ± 1. 03 vs 4. 56 ± 1. 02, P <0. 01), NIH-CPSI (25. 43 ± 1. 72 vs 18. 28 ± 2. 32, P <0. 01 ), and VAS (6. 59 ± 1. 10 vs 3. 02 ± 1. 07, P < 0. 01). The concentration of IL-6 in the EPS was significantly increased ([55.82 ± 6. 28] vs [86.59 ± 4. 55] ng/ml, P <0. 01) , while the level of TNF-α ([3.89 ± 0. 12] vs [3. 19 ± 0.22] ng/ml, P<0.01) and that of IL-1β ([3.21 ± 1.01] vs [1.48 ± 0.95] ng/ml, P< 0. 01) remarkably reduced after treatment. However, there were no statistically significant differences in IIEF-5 scores (18. 58 ± 2. 03 vs 18. 51 1. 89, P >0. 05) or various sperm parameters before and after treatment (P >0. 05). And no significant changes were observed in the prostate volume, morphous or internal echoes.

CONCLUSIONThe ESW therapy is effective and safe for the pain symptom of type III B prostatitis.

A percutaneous visceral tumor puncture director is introduced in this paper, which can be used for needle biopsy and brush biopsy in kinds of visceral tumor. The clinical informations show that the application of the director can increase the positive ratio of puncture, and it has important clinical value. The director is safe, practical and easy to operate.

Objective To observe effect of environmental enrichment on the learning and memory ability and the expressions of hypoxia inducible factor 1α (HIF-1a) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in rats with chronic cerebral hypoperfusion.Methods A total of 40 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: bilateral vascular occlusion (2VO) of the common carotid arteries group (n=14, 2VO group), 2VO + enriched environment (EE) group (n=14, 2VO+EE group) and sham group (n=12, SHAM group).Morris water maze, novel object recognition test, real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (real-time RT-PCR), immunohistochemistry methods and Western blotting were used to detect changes in learning and memory ability of rats and HIF-1α and VEGF expression levels in hippocampus.Results Morris water maze showed that the escape latency was longer in the 2VO group than in the SHAM group at 3, 4 and 5 day during the training (all P＜0.05), while the 2VO+EE group spent significantly less time in finding the platform as compared with the 2VO group at 4 and 5 day (both P＜0.05).The time for space exploration in target quadrant was less in 2VO group than in SHAM group (P＜0.05), while it was longer in 2VO +EE group than in 2VO group (P＜0.05).Novel object recognition test showed that the 2VO operation impaired the priority index (PI) of time spending at exploring the novel object (P＜0.05), and environmental enrichment could improve the PI in 2VO group (P＜0.05).The real-time RT-PCR and Western blotting showed that the HIF-1α mRNA expression was higher in 2VO group than in SHAM group (P＜0.05).The VEGF mRNA and protein expressions were higher in 2VO+EE group than in 2VO group (both P＜0.05).The expression of HIF-1α in hippocampal CA1 area was higher in 2VO group than in SHAM group (P＜0.05).Conclusions Environmental enrichment can alleviate the damages of spatial and non-spatial learning and memory ability which are caused by chronic cerebral hypoperfusion.And HIF-1α and its downstream gene VEGF may be involved in the restoration of cognitive function by enriched environment.

Objective To investigate the short term effect of insulin on proinsulin gene expression of HIT-T15 insu-linnoma cells(pancreatic isletβ-cell). Methods The HIT-T15 cells were randomly divided into four groups.Blank Con-trol Group (LG):complete medium contain 1.4 mmol/L glucose. Control group (LGC):co-cultured nifedipine with medium in order to restain endogenous insulin release. Experimental group (LINS or HINS) add 0.5 U/L insulin or 5 U/L insulin on top of LGC. After being stimulated for 0, 30, 60, 90, 120 mins, proinsulin (PI) mRNA level were assessed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. Insulin receptor substrate1 (IRS1) tyrosine phosphorylation was detected by immunocytochemistry. Results (1) Expression of PI was up regulated by both LINS and HINS, and peak at 60 mins. (2) After stimulation for 30 mins, the level of IRS1 tyrosine phosphorylation in the experimental group was significantly higher than control group, and the peak time be-tween LINS and HINS was different. (3) Between group of LG and LGC, the expression of PI mRNA and IRS1 tyrosine phos-phorylation show no difference. Conclusion Short term exogenous insulin stimulation can promote expression of proinsulin genes,which is concentration dependent. The expression and regulation of PI were related with IRS1 signal transduction.
