AIM:To compare the effect of three types of pterygium surgery and on tear film in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. ·METHODS:A total of 102 patients ( 102 eyes ) with pterygium combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated in our hospital from March 2013 to March 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into three groups including the 34 cases ( 34 eyes ) with simple excision of pterygium ( resection group ) , pterygium excision combined with conjunctival flap transplantation in 34 cases (34 eyes, as conjunctival flap group ) and pterygium excision combined with limbal stem cell transplantation in 34 cases ( 34 eyes, as stem cell group ) . The wound repair time, complications, recurrence rate, uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), tear film break-up time ( BUT ) and basal tear secretion test (SⅠt) were observed before, and 6 and 12mo after surgery in the three groups, respectively. ·RESULTS:The postoperative UCVA of the three groups was significantly higher than that preoperation ( P =0. 039, 0. 013, 0. 024 ), and there was no significant difference among the three groups ( P = 0. 317 ). The wound repair time was 5. 67 ± 1. 45d in the resection group, which was significantly higher than that in the conjunctival flap group (4. 18 ± 0. 76d) and the stem cell group (4. 09±0. 79 d) (P<0. 001), there was no significant difference between the conjunctival flap group and the stem cell group ( P = 0. 937 ). There were 4 cases in resection group reappeared, and the recurrence rate was 11. 8%, which was significantly higher than the other two groups ( P = 0. 037 ). There were 1 recurrences in the conjunctival flap group, and the recurrence rate was 2. 9%, while the patients in the stem cell group had no obvious recurrence. SⅠt and BUT increased significantly after operation (P<0. 05), especially in conjunctival flap group and stem cell group (P<0. 001). There was no significant difference between the conjunctival flap group and the stem cell group (P=0. 845, 0. 894). · CONCLUSION: Pterygium excision combined with conjunctival flap transplantation or limbal stem cell transplantation for the treatment of type 2 diabetic patients with normal blood glucose and tear film function has the similar effect, and is better than simple pterygium excision.

Purpose:To analyze retrospectively the clinical manifestation, treatment and prognosis. Methods:From 1978 to 1996,16 patients with olfactory neuroblastoma were treated.4 cases were stage A,6 cases were stage B and 6 cases were stage C. Six patients were treated with radiotherapy alone or combined with chemotherapy, 9, with surgery and postoperative radiotherapy and 1,with operative alone. The radiation dosage ranged from 40～70Gy with 2 Gy per day. Results:The 1 , 3 and 5 year survival rates were 75%, 75% and 69%.Conclusions:Olfactory neuroblastoma is sensitivity for radiotherapy, for the patients with stage A, radiotherapy alone is effective for stage B and C olfactory neuroblastoma , combined modality of surgery and postoperative radiotherapy should be the treatment of choice.

Iatrogenic vertebral artery injury is a rare complication in cervical spine surgeries,the consequences of which may be catastrophic.With the extensive development of cervical spine surgeries and application of diverse new internal fixations of cervical spine,there is a potential increase of risk of iatrogenic vertebral artery injury,which should be paid attention to.This article reviews the rate,cause and management etc.of iarogenic vertebral artery injury.

Traditional Chinese medicine injections (TCMIs) originated in china, which was fast-acting with high bioavailability. TCMI is applied widely in clinic since it plays an important role for therapy severe and acute disease, such as cardiovascular diseases (CVD), infectious diseases, malignancy, and etc. However, the adverse reactions reported of TCMIs are increasing in recent years. For this, the review summarized systematically the reports and researches of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) of TCMIs according to about 100 literatures in the nearly five years. The ADR of TCMIs mainly includes allergic reaction, respiratory damage, digestive system damage, cardiovascular system damage and urinary system damage, and etc. The main causes are relative with complexity, uncertainty and instability of the drug material. Influence of excipients, pharmaceutical technologies, drug combination and application method was also discussed. There are many methods on adverse reactions of TCMIs, including descriptive studies, analytical epidemiology and experimental studies. This article provided necessary information for reasonable application of TCMIs in clinical practice.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) at "Dazhui" (GV 14) on Wnt-β-catenin signal pathway in annulus fibrosus cells in intervertebral disc in rats with cervical spondylosis.

METHODSForty SD rats were randomized into a control group, a model group, an EA group and a medication group, 10 rats in each one. Rats in the control group were treated with sham operation, only incision on local skin; rats in the remaining groups were made into cervical spondylosis models. After model establishment, rats in the control group and model group received fixed treatment under identical condition; rats in the EA group were treated with EA at "Dazhui" (GV 14), 30 min per treatment; rats in the medication group were treated with intragastric administration of meloxicam tablets. Treatments were both given once a day, and 14 days were taken as one session; there was an interval of 2 days between two sessions, and totally two sessions were given. After the treatments, immunohistochemistry was applied to measure the expression of Wnt, glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) and Axin in annulus fibrosus cells; western blot was used to test the expression of P-β-catenin.

RESULTSIn the control group, there were more positive cells of Wnt, GSK-3β and Axin, which were intensively distributed, deeply colored, and strongly positive; In the model group, there were less positive cells of Wnt, GSK-3β and Axin, which were sparsely distributed and weakly positive. The expression of Wnt, GSK-3β, Axin and P-β-catenin in the model group was less than that in the control group (all P < 0.05); expression of Wnt, GSK-3β, Axin and P-β-catenin in the EA group and medication group was higher than that in the model group (all P < 0.05); expression of Wnt, GSK-3β, Axin and P-β-catenin was not significantly different between EA group and medication group (all P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONEA could delay the degeneration of intervertebral disc, which may be related to EA inhibiting signal pathway of Wnt-β-catenin.

Objective To investigate lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced injury of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and effect of LPS on animals behavior in vitro and in vivo. Methods Pheochromocytoma(PC12)cell viability was estimated by MTT assay after cells had been differently incubated in medium containing LPS, 6-OHDA and culture supernatant of LPS-treated microglia. LPS was stereotactically injected into left substantia nigra of rats. 14,21 and 28 days after injection, the circling behavior was observed by intraperitoneal injection of apomorphine. Midbrain dopaminergic neurons were identified by using tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) immunohistochemistry. The contents of dopamine and its metabolites in the striatum and substantia nigra were measured by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). Results LPS alone had no influence on cell viability. However, the 26% and 30% reduction of cell viability was found when cells were exposed to culture supernatant of LPS-treated microglia and 6-OHDA. The circling behavior ipsilateral to LPS-treated side was induced in some rats 21 and 28 days following injection, but not 14 days. Compared with the PBS-treated rats, the marked (35%~60%) loss of TH-positive cells in left substantia nigra was identified 21 and 28 days after LPS treatment, but not 14 days. The 30%~70% reduction of dopamine and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) in left striatum and substantia nigra was found at 21 and 28 days following injection, whereas no significant change was observed at 14 days. Conclusions LPS could indirectly injury the dopaminergic neurons and induce behavioral asymmetry of rats.

Objective To monitor the activities of orbicularis oculi muscle by analyzing the electroneurogram (ENG) of its innervating nerve. Methods The ENG was recorded in vivo by a cuff electrode implanted around a dog’s zygomatic branch of facial nerve. The differences between the ENG during relaxing period of the orbicularis oculi muscle and during the constricting period were analyzed to explore a way to monitor the muscle activities. Results The ENG signals indicating occurrences of eye blinking events were extracted in the study. Time-frequency analysis showed that there was no ENG difference when the orbicularis oculi muscle was in relaxing periods no mater whether it was in the nature eye-opening period or in the interval of eye blinking. The ENG of orbicularis oculi muscle in constricting period was different from the ENG in relaxing period at amplitude and frequency. Conclusion It is feasible to monitor the orbicularis oculi muscle activities by ENG analysis.

AlM:To evaluate the efficacy of retrobulbar injection of triamcinolone acetonide ( TA ) combined with 577nm laser macular grid photocoagulation for the treatment of cystoid macular edema.
METHODS: Fifty-eight cases ( 66 eyes ) with cystoid macular edema caused by different diseases were recruited in this study. The included patients were treated with both retrobulbar injection of triamcinolone acetonide and 577nm laser macular grid photocoagulation. The best corrected visual acuity, macular thickness, fundus and intraocular pressure were observed in the 1wk, 1 and 3mo after the treatment in all of the included cases.
RESULTS: After treatment, all of the 66 eyes showed cystoid macular edema partially or completely subsided according to optical coherence tomography and fluorescence fundus angiography; 54 eyes ( 82%) visual acuity improved, 12 vision remained the same.
CONCLUSlON: Retrobulbar injection of triamcinolone acetonide combined with 577nm laser macular grid photocoagulation has good curative effect, simple operation procedure and rare complications in the management of cystoid macular edema.

Objective To analyze the prevalence and economic burden of diabetes in Guandu district of Kunming. Methods We used probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling method to select representative sample of 4595 residents aged 18 or over from this district. Each participant received face to face questionnaire interview and physical examination. We applied different methods to measure the direct,indirect and intangible costs of diabetes. Results In the study population, the overall prevalence of diabetes was 6.2%,and females had higher prevalence of diabetes than males (6.2%vs. 5.6%, <0.05) . The DALY/1000 population of diabetes was 3.52, among which males and females were 5.18 and 6.70, respectively. Mean unit direct costs, indirect costs and intangible costs of diabetes were 3464.49 Yuan,84.48 Yuan and 4 045.97 Yuan,respectively. The total economic burden of diabetes was 401.84 million Yuan. Intangible costs represented the largest component of economic burden of diabetes,followed by direct costs. Conclusion The huge economic burden of diabetes has become the cause for concern in Guandu district. Effective measures are needed to reduce the economic burden of diabetes.
