Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing 2019;28(2):83-93
PURPOSE: Cancer patients are at a higher risk of being unemployed or facing difficulty in returning to work (RTW) than individuals without health concerns. The aim of this study is to identify and describe interventions developed specifically to assist cancer patients to RTW after treatment. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted from September to October 2018 in different international databases: PubMed, Medline, and Embase. Studies using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed designs were included if they satisfied the following criteria: (a) described an intervention to assist cancer patients to RTW during or after treatment; (b) conducted on patients aged 18 and over and diagnosed with cancer; (c) written in English; (d) published in peer-reviewed journals. RESULTS: Fourteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Counseling with physical activity intervention, behavioral training to reduce fatigue, and multi-disciplinary rehabilitation programs were found to be effective. CONCLUSION: Interventions adopting a multidisciplinary approach were effective for RTW in cancer patients. This literature review emphasizes the need for more tailored interventions based on survivors' needs and characteristics in the RTW field.

Journal of Korean Epilepsy Society 2011;15(1):10-16
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to know psychological characteristics of psychogenic non-epileptic seizure (PNES) patients by analyzing profiles of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). In addition, we tried to investigate whether there are differences of MMPI profiles, depending on the gender and age.METHODS: We included 65 patients with non-epileptic psychogenic seizures. Their diagnosis was based on clinical features, provocative test and confirmed by video-EEG monitoring.RESULTS: The results of MMPI analysis did not show any statistically significant differences of quantitative scoring on the main clinical scales. However, additional analysis indicated that patients with PNES had some characteristics of more somatic complaints and depressive mood. According to sex difference, the MMPI profiles of female group showed an increase in the depression scale (D-Pt), whereas those of male group revealed an increased in the somatisation (Hs-Hy). According to age difference, MMPI profiles of adolescent group had the characteristics of personality pattern with a tendency toward somatisation. MMPI profiles of adult group had more depressive tendency. This study suggests that profiles of MMPI, according to the gender and age, can have different characteristics.CONCLUSIONS: Clinical consideration of those factors may be helpful for improving the care of PNES patients.

Journal of Lipid and Atherosclerosis 2023;12(1):58-72
Transporting substances such as gases, nutrients, waste, and cells is the primary function of blood vessels. Vascular cells use membrane proteins to perform crucial endothelial functions, including molecular transport, immune cell infiltration, and angiogenesis.A thorough understanding of these membrane receptors from a clinical perspective is warranted to gain insights into the pathogenesis of vascular diseases and to develop effective methods for drug delivery through the vascular endothelium. This review summarizes stateof-the-art single-molecule imaging techniques, such as super-resolution microscopy, singlemolecule tracking, and protein–protein interaction analysis, for observing and studying membrane proteins. Furthermore, recent single-molecule studies of membrane proteins such as cadherins, integrins, caveolins, transferrin receptors, vesicle-associated protein-1, and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor are discussed.

Korean Journal of Perinatology 2009;20(3):243-248
Apart from the common etiologies of neonatal hydrops fetalis, a miscellaneous group of rare causes of them include abnormalities of the placenta, namely, chorangioma (chorioangioma). Chorangiomatosis is multiple small chorangiomas, a rare tumor occurring in 1% of pregnancies, of varying sizes in the placenta. When chorangioma is large enough it can cause high output cardiac failure of the fetus and results in non-immune hydrops. We report a case of neonatal hydrops fetalis caused by placental chorangiomatosis in which the placenta could have been easily overlooked. We suggest evaluating every placenta for biopsy in cases of neonatal hydrops fetalis especially when the other causes of hydrops fetalis have been ruled out.

Urticaria pigmentosa (UP) is the most common variant of cutaneous mastocytosis. Primarily a disease of childhood, in over one-half of the cases onset is before 2 years of age, and in 90%, the disease is confined to the skin. UP precedes the diagnosis of systemic mastocytosis and is more common in adults than in children. Therefore, systemic examination should be performed in patients with UP. We report a case of adult-onset UP with systemic involvement.

Journal of Clinical Neurology 2011;7(4):227-230
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The occurrence of PWD in neurodegenerative disease is very rare, and this is the first report of it being related to early-onset AD. We describe a patient with early-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD) who presented with pure word deafness (PWD). CASE REPORT: The patient had experienced PWD for 2 years, followed by other cognitive deficits suggestive of parietotemporal dysfunction. Brain imaging including 18FDG-PET and [11C] PIB-PET supported the diagnosis of AD. CONCLUSIONS: Our case highlights the clinical variability that characterizes early-onset AD.

Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2023;66(2):132-142
Background:
This study analyzed the causes of death in the Korean population in 2020.
Methods:
Cause-of-death data for 2020 from Statistics Korea were examined based on the Korean Standard Classification of Diseases and Causes of Death, 7th revision and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision.
Results:
In total, 304,948 deaths occurred, reflecting an increase of 9,838 (3.3%) from 2019. The crude death rate (the number of deaths per 100,000 people) was 593.9, corresponding to an increase of 19.0 (3.3%) from 2019. The 10 leading causes of death, in descending order, were malignant neoplasms, heart diseases, pneumonia, cerebrovascular diseases, intentional self-harm, diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer disease, liver diseases, hypertensive diseases, and sepsis. Cancer accounted for 27.0% of deaths. Within the category of malignant neoplasms, the top 5 leading organs of involvement were the lung, liver, colon, stomach, and pancreas. Sepsis was included in the 10 leading causes of death for the first time. Mortality due to pneumonia decreased to 43.3 (per 100,000 people) from 45.1 in 2019. The number of deaths due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was 950, of which 54.5% were in people aged 80 or older.
Conclusion
These changes reflect the continuing increase in deaths due to diseases of old age, including sepsis. The decrease in deaths due to pneumonia may have been due to protective measures against SARS-CoV-2. With the concomitant decrease in fertility, 2020 became the first year in which Korea’s natural total population decreased.

Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2022;65(11):748-757
Background:
This study aimed to present and analyze the causes of death in the Korean population in 2019.
Methods:
Based on the Korean Standard Classification of Diseases and Causes of Death and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision, cause-of-death data for 2019 from Statistics Korea were examined.
Results:
There were 295,110 total deaths, a decrease of 3,710 (-1.27%) from 2018. The crude death rate (the number of deaths per 100,000 people) was 574.8, a decrease of 7.6 (-1.3%) from 2018. The top ten causes of death, in descending order, were malignant neoplasms, heart disease, pneumonia, cerebrovascular disease, intentional self-harm, diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer disease, liver disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, and hypertension. Within the malignant neoplasm category, the top five organs affected were the lung, liver, colon, stomach, and pancreas (in the same order as in 2018). Alzheimer disease moved up from ninth to seventh on the list of leading causes of death in 2018. Among women, it ranked as the fifth leading cause of death, while pneumonia became the third leading cause of death.
Conclusion
These changes reflect the increasing number of women > 65 years who are vulnerable to cognitive impairment and infectious diseases. The Korean government must urgently take preventive and therapeutic measures against dementia, especially Alzheimer disease.

Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine 2016;16(4):303-307
BACKGROUND: In dental intravenous sedation, continuous intravenous infusion of a low-dose drug requires an infusion pump such as a syringe pump. To develop a new syringe pump for clinical use, the functions of the pump must meet certain international standards. Various safety and efficacy tests must be performed on the syringe pump, as stipulated by these standards, and an approval must be received from the approving agency based on such test results. METHODS: The authors of the present study developed a novel syringe pump and performed efficacy evaluation by testing its infusion speed at 1 and 25 ml/h, and infusion performance testing at 2 and 24 h. Moreover, performance evaluation was conducted by comparing the novel pump to an existing pump with the infusion speed varied from 1 to 5 ml/h. RESULTS: In the efficacy testing on the newly developed syringe pump, infusion with the infusion speed initially set to 1 ml/h resulted in infusion speeds of 1.00 and 0.99 ml/h in the 2- and 24-h assessment, respectively. Changing the infusion speed setting to 25 ml/h resulted in an infusion speed of 25.09 and 23.92 ml/h in the 2- and 24-h assessment, respectively. These results show no significant differences when compared with other commercially available pumps. CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy testing of the newly developed syringe pump showed the accuracy to be within tolerance. Based on these findings, we believe that the newly developed syringe pump is suitable for clinical use.
