OBJECTIVETo investigate the differential diagnosis of type III prostatitis and interstitial cystitis so as to improve the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment of the two diseases.
METHODSBased on the clinical data of 4 cases of type III prostatitis and 3 cases of interstitial cystitis, we analyzed the characteristics of the two diseases in such aspects as clinical symptomatology, urodynamics, prostatic fluid microscopy, microbiology and treatment.
RESULTSThe common clinical characteristics of type III prostatitis and interstitial cystitis were indisposition or pain in the subabdomen and/or pelvic floor, but their differences were quite obvious. In interstitial cystitis, longer urine accumulation could cause worse pain in the subabdomen, which could be relieved after micturation, and the bladder capacity was obviously decreased, but with normal prostatic fluid and negative result of microbial culture. It responded to behavior therapy, resiniferatoxin, sodium hyaluronate and water dilation of the bladder under anaesthesia. While type III prostatitis, with white blood cells > 10/HP or < or = 10/HP in the prostatic fluid and negative result of microbial culture, did not respond to the above therapeutic methods that were effective for interstitial cystitis.
CONCLUSIONType III prostatitis and interstitial cystitis, although clinically confusable, can be definitely differentiated from each other according to their characteristic causes and locations.

OBJECTIVESTo explore the relationships between the peripheral blood levels of CD61, CD63, PAC-1 and the incidence of acute rejection and tubular necrosis after renal transplantation, and recovery of the graft function.
METHODSThe peripheral blood levels of CD61, CD63, and PAC-1 of 86 patients with uremia in different stages before and after transplantations were analyzed by flow cytometry. The patients were divided into three groups: (1) twenty-nine patients with normal grafts function, (2) hirty with acute rejection and (3) twenty-seven with acute tubular necrosis. The patients with acute rejection were randomly divided into treatment group with anticoagulants and cntrol group.
RESULTSThe peripheral blood levels of CD61, CD63 and PAC-1 significantly increased (P < 0.05) in the patients with acute rejection, in comparison with those with normal grafts function and those with acute tubular necrosis. The peripheral blood levels of CD61, CD63 and PAC-1 in patients with acute rejection in anticoagulants therapy was lower, recovery time of the grafts function was shorter, one-year survival rates of patients and grafts were higher, as compared with those of controls.
CONCLUSIONSThe patients with acute rejection have significantly high peripheral blood levels of CD61, CD63 and PAC-1 before transplantation, however, these values in patients with acute tubular necrosis are not high, this suggesting that acute rejection might relate to platelet activation, while acute tubular necrosis might not relate to it. After anticoagulants therapy in patients with acute rejection, the grafts function might recover faster and their one-year survival rates and grafts might be higher in those with CD61, CD63 and PAC-1 decreasing remarkably.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the expression of tumor stem cell marker CD133 and endothelin-converting enzymes (ECE) in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and their association with NSCLC lymphoid metastasis.
METHODSCD133 and ECE expressions was detected immunohistochemically in the specimens from 77 patients with NSCLC, and the association of CD133 and ECE expressions with the tumor size, histological type, differentiation, lymphoid metastasis, and prognosis of NSCLC was analyzed.
RESULTSThe positive expression rate of CD133 and ECE was 51.9% (40/77) and 45.5% (35/77) in these specimens, respectively. Both CD133 and ECE expressions were associated positively with lymphoid metastasis (r=0.246 and 0.339, P<0.05), and inversely with the survival time of the patients (P<0.05). CD133 and ECE expressions were not related to tumor size, histological type, and differentiation of the tumor (P>0.05). CD133 expression was associated positively with ECE expression in NSCLC (r=0.249, P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONCD133 and ECE expressions are associated with lymphoid metastasis and prognosis of NSCLC, and their overexpression often suggests unfavorable prognosis of NSCLC.

OBJECTIVETo introduce and evaluate the clinical effects of percutaneous reduction and Kirschner pin fixation for the treatment of intraarticular fractures of the calcaneus in children.
METHODSFrom March 2001 to February 2009,12 patients with intraarticular calcaneal fractures were treated by percutaneous reduction and Kirschner pin fixation (13 feet). There were 8 males and 4 females, ranging in age from 3 to 14,with an average of 8.7 years. According to Essex-Lopresti classification, among 5 feet were tongue fractures and 8 feet were compressed fractures. According to Sanders classification, 9 feet were type II and 4 feet were type III. The Biihler angle and Gissane angle of the calcaneus were obtained before and after operation. All patients were evaluated according to Maryland Foot Score.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up for 16-71 months (means 35.9 months),and all the incisions were healed without complications and infection. The preoperative X-ray film showed that Böhler angle was (19.7+/-5.3) degrees, Gissane angle was (137.3+/-7.5) degrees. The postoperative X-ray film demonstrated that Böhler angle was (32.6+/-3.7) degrees, Gissane angle was (125.4+/-2.9) degrees. There was a significant difference between preoperative and postoperative (P<0.01). The average Maryland score was 96.3+/-2.4 (range, 92 to 100 points).
CONCLUSIONPercutaneous reduction and Kirschner pin fixation is an effective minimally invasive way to treat intraarticular fractures of the calcaneus in children, it has many advantages such as minimal invasion, reliable fixation and satisfactory effects.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinical effects of AO distal humerus plate (DHP) for the treatment of distal humeral fractures in elderly osteoporotic patients.
METHODSFrom September 2008 to January 2010, 18 elderly osteoporotic patients with distal humeral fractures were treated with open reduction and internal fixation with DHP. There were 3 males and 15 females, ranging in age from 62 to 83 years (averaged, 71.4 years). According to AO classification, 1 patient was Type A2, 3 patients were Type A3; 2 patients were Type B1, 2 patients were Type B2; 3 patients were Type C1, 4 patients were Type C2, 3 patients were Type C3. The surgical approaches were either bilateral or via olecranon process of ulna. Early mobilization was initiated after surgery. Functional results were evaluated according to the Mayo elbow performance score (MEPS).
RESULTSThe average duration of follow-up was 14.6 months (ranged from 11 to 24 months). All the patients had a complete healing of their fractures. There was no infection, hardware failure or loss of reduction after the operations. The average Mayo elbow performance score (MEPS) was (92.2 +/- 9.6) (65 to 100 points), among which the score of pain was (42.5 +/- 5.8) (30 to 45 points), the score of motion range was (19.2 +/- 1.9) (15 to 20 points), the score of stability was (9.2 +/- 1.9) (5 to 10 points), and the score of function was (21.4 +/- 2.9) (15 to 25 points). According to MEPS, 11 patients got excellent results, 5 good and 2 fair.
CONCLUSIONTreatment of distal humeral fractures in elderly osteoporotic patients with AO distal humeral plates can obtain immediate stabilization which facilitates early mobilization of the elbow.

OBJECTIVETo explore the differences of PDGF and EGF expression in the wound healing between fatal and adult.
METHODSWith the established animal model of fetal scarless healing and the adult samples, an immunohistochemical technique was used to evaluate the expression of PDGF and EGF in the normal adult skin, normal fetal skin, and the process of their wound healing.
RESULTS1. The expression of the PDGF was not found in the fetal skin, but a mild amount of the PDGF was shown in the epidermis and the upper dermal layer 12 hours and 1 day after the wounding process. In the normal adult skin, expression of PDGF was shown in the dermal fibroblasts, macrophagocytes and blood capillaries, and a strong expression was presented during its wound healing process. 2. In the fetal skin, the expression of the EGF was seen in the epidermis, hair follicles, sebaceous glands and sweat glands, but there were no markedly changes during the wound healing. In the adult skin, a positive stain of the EGF was shown in the basal layer of the epidermis while the mild stain in hair follicles and sweat glands. The level of the expression became gradually decreasing with the time going in the wounded adult skin.
CONCLUSIONThe different expression of growth factors between fetal and adult skin in wound healing may be one of the important reasons that the fetal wound could produce scarless healing.
