1.Analysis on behaviors due to diseases in the patients having hypertension and the factors affecting the behaviors

Objective To approach hypertensive patients' understandings of their own diseases, daily behaviors responding to their complaints and the factors affecting their abnormal behaviors. Methods A specially-designed questionnaire survey was adopted and total 98 cases of all internal-patients suffering from hypertension were surveyed. Results The percentage of patients involving in the survey with abnormal psychological orientations is 38.8%. That of patients with abnormal disease confirmation factors is 46.9%. And that of patients with abnormal hypochondria index is 43.9%. The main factors affecting patients' behaviors are Age, Educational Background and Working Stress felt by themselves. Conclusions Nurses should attach more importance to the cognitive trainings of hypertension patients, get along with patients who have abnormal disease response symptoms and especially, pay more attention to Health Education and Psychological Nursing to patients who are seniors, higher-educated or whoever suffering working stress.
2.Some medical staff positive for serum SARS coronavirus antibody IgG have only mild symptoms.

OBJECTIVETo identify patients with SARS coronavirus infection who have only mild symptoms.
METHODEnzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was employed to detect serum antibody against SARS coronavirus in the lysate of whole SARS coronavirus from 19 SARS patients and 200 medical staff members without obvious SARS symptoms after possible exposure to the virus during routine medical practice.
RESULTSSerum IgG antibody against SARS coronavirus was detected in all the 19 SARS patients, and among the 200 staff members, 20 (10%) were found positive for the antibody but with no obvious or only mild symptoms.
CONCLUSIONSerum IgG antibody against SARS coronavirus is positive in a small proportion (around 10%) of the medical staff members exposed to the virus in our hospital, but may not cause obvious symptoms, suggesting SARS coronavirus infection might in some cases have mild or even no clinical manifestations.

3.Development and application of a new hepatitis C virus genotyping method with polymerase chain reaction-reverse blot dot technique.

OBJECTIVEUsing polymerase chain reaction-reverse blot dot (PCR-RDB) technique to establish a new method for hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotyping and to study the distribution of HCV genotypes in Foshan area.
METHODSHCV primers and probes were designed in 5'-untranslated region (nt-1-nt-299) of HCV. HCV RNA in serum was isolated and purified, and its cDNA was obtained by reversed transcription. Nested PCR using biotin-labelled primers, was done. PCR products were hybridized with immobilized specific probes (genotype 1a to 3b) on Biodyne C membrane to genotype HCV by color development while adding POD and TMB. A certain judgment could be made according to the position of color reaction. The reliability of this new method was verified by sequencing. HCV RNA levels in serum were determined by real time fluorescent quantitative (FQ)-PCR. 60 FQ-PCR-positive HCV sera from Foshan area were genotyped using this assay.
RESULTSAll 60 sera could be successfully genotyped by PCR-RBD. 50 (83.3%) cases were found to be genotype 1b, 2 (3.3%) as genotype 1a and 2 (3.3%) as genotype 2a while 5 (8.0%) to be mixture of genotype 1a and 1b, and 1 (1.7%) to be mixture of genotypes 1b and 2a. No genotypes 2b, 3a and 3b were found. The results of PCR-RDB genotyping methods coincided with sequence analysis.
CONCLUSIONNewly established HCV genotyping system was proved to be sensitive, specific, precise and economic, thus suitable for clinical and epidemiologic studies. The results of HCV genotyping showed that genotype 1b was the predominant genotype in Foshan area.

4.Phenolic compounds from Jatropha curcas.

OBJECTIVETo determine the chemical constituents of Jatropha curcas.
METHODChemical constituents were obtained using various chromatography methods including silica gel column chromatography and HPLC. The structures of isolated compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods including 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and MS.
RESULT AND CONCLUSIONFourteen phenolic compounds were obtained from the stems of J. curcas and their structures were identified to be 5,4'-dihydroxy-3, 7, 3'-trimethoxyflavone (1), 5, 3', 4'-trihydroxy-3,7-dimethoxyflavone (2), 3-O-methylquercetin (3), 5, 6, 7-trimethoxycoumarin (4), tomentin (5), isoscopoletin (6), omega-hydroxypropioquaiacone (7), coniferaldehyde (8), 3, 5-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde (9), vanillic acid (10), isovanillin (11), 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (12), cimifugin (13) and (E)-3-hydroxy-5-methoxy-stilbene (14). Among them, compounds 1-4 and 6-14 were isolated from the genus of Jatropha for the first time.

Diabetes,a chronic metabolic disease with hyperglycemia,has a high incidence in the modern time that put many patient families into troubles. At present,insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents are used to treat diabetes,though several side effects such as hypoglycemia and various complications mainly caused by these drugs. Antibody with high selectivity and high therapeutic index is employed in many disease treatments. In this paper,the recent study of different antibodies against certain targets of T cells,B lymphocytes,glucagon receptors and vascular endothelial growth factor are involved,which could supply new insight into the treatment of diabetes.
6.Meridian massage in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of meridian massage in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radicu-lopathy.Methods Sixty-four patients with cervical radiculopathy treated from March 2020 to June 2023 were divided into the observation group and the treatment group,with 32 cases in each group.The observation group received conventional treat-ment,including 14 males and 18 females with an average age of(41.34±7.23)years old ranging from 32 to 55 years old;the disease duration ranged from 9 to 17 months with an average of(14.23±3.56)months;C5 and C6 nerve root compression oc-curred in 12 cases,C7 nerve root compression occurred in 17 cases,C8 nerve root compression occurred in 3 cases.The treat-ment group received massage therapy on the basis of conventional treatment,including 17 males and 15 females with an aver-age age of(40.86±6.97)years old ranging from 30 to 54 years old;the disease duration ranged from 8 to 18 months with an av-erage of(15.43±3.48)months;C5 and C6 nerve root compression occurred in 14 cases,C7 nerve root compression occurred in 16 cases,C8 nerve root compression occurred in 2 cases.The clinical efficacy was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS),neck disability index(NDI)and clinical assessment scale for cervical spondylosis(CASCS)before and after 2-week treatment,and the range of motion of cervical spine was compared before and after treatment.Results After 2-week treatment,the VAS and NDI scores of the treatment group and the observation group decreased,while the CASCS scores increased(P<0.001).Af-ter 2-week treatment,the VAS and NDI scores were lower and the CASCS scores were higher in the treatment group than those of the observation group(P<0.001).Comparing with those before treatment,the range of motion of flexion,extension,left flex-ion,right flexion,left rotation and right rotation after 2-week treatment increased in two groups(P<0.05).Comparing with the observation group,the range of motion of flexion,extension,left flexion,right flexion,left rotation and right rotation increased more significantly in the treatment group(P<0.05).Conclusion Meridian massage is effective in the treatment of cervical Spondylotic radiculopathy,which can effectively relieve neck pain,improve clinical symptoms and improve patient satisfaction.
7.Chemical constituents contained in ethanol extracts from Acorus tatarinowii and their anti-fatigue activity.

Chemical constituents in ethyl acetate and butanol fractions of ethanol extracts from Acorus tatarinowii were separated by column chromatography. Bufo skeletal muscle fatigue model was established to study the anti-fatigue activity of separated compounds. Five compounds were separated and identified by spectroscopic analysis as acoramone(1),cycloartenone(2),2,4,5-trimethoxyl-2'-butoxy-1,2-phenyl propandiol(3),5-hydroxymethyl furfural(4), and 5-butoxymethyl furfural(5). Compound 3 was a new compound, and compounds 2 and 5 were separated from this plant for the first time. Compound 4 exhibited a notable anti-fatigue activity.

9.Sequence analysis on measles viruses isolated in Shanghai in 2005.

OBJECTIVETo ascertain the genetic characterization and genotype of measles viruses isolated in Shanghai region, in 2005.
METHODSMeasles virus was isolated from throat swab specimens collected from suspected measles cases and 450 bp fragment of C terminus of nucleprotein (N) gene was amplified by RT-PCR. Sequence analysis was conducted to ascertain the genotype and to compare the difference of nucleotide with other measles virus strain published in GenBank.
RESULTS4 measles viruses were isolated from 10 throat swab specimens, and the sequence analysis indicated that they belonged to H1 genotype. The homogeneity of 450 nucleotides in the C terminal of the N gene was at 98%-98.2% as compared to H1 genotype (China93-7). They differed from genotype H2 (China94-1) at 6.4%-6.9% and from genotype A (Edmonston) at 6.7%-6.9%, from measles vaccine (Shanghail91) at 7.6%-8.0%. They differed from the other measles viral strain isolated in China in 1993 - 2005 at 0.2%-3.7%. The variation within 4 isolated measles viruses was at 0.7%-1.3%.
CONCLUSIONIt was H1 genotype measles viruses,which are the native viruses in China that led to the outbreak of measles in Shanghai, in 2005.

10.Establishment of a new HBV genotyping method with PCR-RBD and its application.

OBJECTIVEUsing PCR-RDB to establish a new method for HBV genotyping, and to survey the distribution of HBV genotypes in the Foshan area.
METHODSBiotin-labeled primers for amplification of HBV region X (nt1550-1789) were used to amplify extracted HBV DNA. HBV was genotyped by hybridization of the PCR products with immobilized specific probes (genotype A to F) on C membrane. Color development was achieved by adding POD and TMB. A judgment was made according to color reactions. The reliability of this new method was verified by gene sequencing. 300 samples of HBV DNA-positive sera from the Foshan area were genotyped using this assay.
RESULTSOf the 300 sera genotyped by PCR-RBD, 147 (49.0%) cases were genotype B, 136 (45.3%) were genotype C, 1 (0.3%) genotype D, and 12 (4.0%) were mixtures of genotype B and C, and 4 (1.3%) were mixtures of genotype C and D. No genotype A, E or F were found. The results of PCR-RDB genotyping were consistent with the results obtained with sequence analysis.
CONCLUSIONThis newly established HBV genotyping system proved to be sensitive, specific, precise and economic, and should be suitable for clinical practice and epidemic study. The results of HBV genotyping show that genotype B and C are the predominant genotypes in the Foshan area.
