Objective To study the level of immunoglobulin and the prevalence of ANA in patients with Graves' diseases(GD).To explore the correlation between GD and other systemic autoimmune disorders.Methods Data of 145 patients with GD and 45 healthy subjects were collected.All cases were detected on the presence of ANA and the level of immunoglobulin,FT3,FT4,and thyroid specific antibodies.Results The presencerate of ANA and the level of IgG in patients with GD were higher than that in healthy controls [(28.28% vs 4.55%);(70.96?26.14 vs 60.41?11.01) mmol/L](P

Objective To investigate the expression of CD147 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in rabbit models of carotid atherosclerotic plaque and the interference effect of atorvastatin on their expressions. Methods Twenty-four New Zealand white male rabbits were randomly divided into group A (normal diet group, n=8), and group B (n=16). Group A was given normal diet for 16 weeks. The 16 rabbits in group B underwent balloon-induced endothelial injury in the right carotid artery, and thereafter, were fed with a high-cholesterol diet (1% cholesterol) for 12 weeks; then, these rabbits were divided into group C (the model control group), and group D (undergoing gastric perfusion of atorvastatin Russell's viper venom and histamine. The damaged carotid arteries in all the groups were collected to undergo pathological examination. The protein expressions of MMP-9 and CD147, and the level of macrophages were detected by immunohistochemical analysis, and the mRNA expressions of MMP-9 and CD147 were evaluated by reverse-transcription PCR. Results In group C, it was found that plaque disruption and thrombosis occurred in 4 out of the 6 rabbits after triggering, while in group D, only 1 rabbit demonstrated plaque disruption and thrombosis; however, rabbits in the normal diet group did not have plaque disruption and thrombosis. Group D showed significantly decreased level of macrophage (16.22±2.61), decreased percentages of positive staining area of protein expression levels of MMP-9 (11.11±1.87) and CD147 (14.22±1.63) as compared with group C (33.62±3.82, 21.18±4.75 and 29.54±3.03, respectively) (P＜0.05). Significant difference on the mRNA expression levels of CD147 and MMP-9 was noted between group C (0.939±0.105, 0.335±0.069, respectively) and group D (0.4256±0.112, 0.135 ±0.067, respectively) (P＜0.05). The levels of the protein, mRNA expressions of CD 147 and MMP-9 were correlative positively by Pearson's correlation coefficient (r=0.669, 0.783, respectively, P=0.001, P=0.000). Conclusion The up-expression of CD147 and MMP-9 may be involved in the pathogenesis of vulnerable carotid atherosclerotic plaque and atorvastatin can stabilize the plaque possibly through inhibiting the CD 147, and MMP-9 expressions.

Objective To study the risk factors of hyperthyroid heart diseases(HHD) by analyzing clinical features of patients in order to provide a scientific basis for prevention and treatment of HHD. Methods Nine hundred and eighty two cases were selected as objective from in-patient data of Thyroid Disease Treatment Centre of Shandong Province. The cases were divided into hyperthyroidism group and HHD group. The variables of etiology,sex, age, duration of disease, TSH, FT3, FT4 and TRAb were analyzed by comparative analysis. The risk factors were analyzed by logistic regression. Results The prevalence of hyperthyroidism complicated hyperthyroid heart disease was 7.7%(76/982), age, duration of diseases, FT3, TRAb in the HHD group were [(51.4 ± 11.5), (6.3 ±2.1) years, 21.6 pmol/L, 71.6 U/L], in hyperthyroidism group were [(37.9 ± 9.8), (2.6 ± 1.3) years, 14.9pmol/L, 49.6 U/L]. The differences were statistically significant(u = 9.93,15.23, T = 44954,48792.5, P ＜ 0.05)between the two groups. The factors of the older, higher FT3 and TRAb, longer duration, Graves disease (OR =1.751,1.470,1.483,1.445,1.234) increased the risk of HHD. Conclusions Graves disease, longer duration, old age, higher FT3 and TRAb are the risk factors of HHD. Timely prevention and control of risk factors is necessary to reduce the incidence of HHD.

OBJECTIVETo investigate whether intensive statin therapy during the perioperative period improves outcomes in patients undergoing middle cerebral artery (MCA) stent implantation for ischemic stroke.

METHODSForty patients with ischemic stroke undergoing delayed stent implantation in our department from January, 2010 to November, 2014 were randomized to intensive statin group (atorvastatin, 80 mg/day, 3 days before till 3 days after intervention; n=20) and standard therapy group (atorvastatin, 20 mg/day, n=20). All the patients received long-term atorvastatin treatment thereafter (20 mg/day). Serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), and soluble extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN/CD147) were measured at 24 h before and 24 h after the intervention. The primary end point was procedure-related intra-stent thrombosis, 1-month incidence of major adverse cerebrovascular events (stroke, transient ischemic attack, in-stent restenosis, death or unplanned revascularization).

RESULTSThe basic clinical data were similar between the two groups before the intervention (P>0.05). In the intensive therapy group, the levels of CRP, VCAM-1, and sCD147 were significantly lower at 24 h after the intervention than the levels before intervention (P<0.05) and the postoperative levels in the standard therapy group (P<0.05). The levels of CRP, VCAM-1, and sCD147 were all increased after the intervention in the standard therapy group (P>0.05). The incidence of primary end point was lower in intensive therapy group than in standard therapy group (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONIn patients undergoing MCA intravascular stent implantation for ischemic stroke, perioperative intensive statin therapy improves the patients' outcomes, reduces the levels of CRP, VCAM-1 and sCD147 molecules, and lowers the incidences of cerebrovascular events.

OBJECTIVETo study MRI changes of vertebral metastasis and their value in differential diagnosis.

METHODSMR films of 103 patients with vertebral metastasis confirmed clinically or pathologically were reviewed with all features recorded and analyzed.

RESULTS338 vertebrae were involved in 103 patients, including 82 in vertebral body only, 3 in appendix only and 253 in both. According to the shape of vertebral body and the characteristic abnormality, 335 vertebrae with body involved were divided into 4 types: Type I (97) with one single focus in the vertebral body, type II (102) with multiple foci with clear margin in the vertebral body, type III (16) with abnormal signal in the whole vertebral body and type IV (120) with abnormal signal in the whole or most part of vertebral body complicated with compression fracture. Among all these lesions, 114 showed concave superior and/or inferior edges and 116 protruding posterior and/or anterior borders. In 256 vertebrae with abnormal appendix, 238 showed abnormal pedicle of vertebral arch involving neighbouring part of vertebral body and 235 showed enlarged pedicle and other parts of the appendix. Soft tissue mass was showed around 133 vertebrae, with the center at the involved vertebrae on sagittal image. 130 pieces of these masses extended cranio-caudally within or a little beyond the width of a vertebral body.

CONCLUSIONVertebral metastasis is characterized by involving multiple vertebrae. Its diagnosis and differential diagnosis can be made definite in most patients according to the lesions distribution, change in vertebral shape and the characteristics of the soft tissue mass.

Uterine leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon malignant neoplasm of smooth muscle origination and is associated with a poor prognosis. We report two cases of uterine leiomyosarcoma that presented with pulmonary metastases. 2-deoxy-2-(¹⁸F)fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) was performed to identify the primary carcinoma and found the focus located in the uterus. The follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed the diagnosis was uterine leiomyosarcoma.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of detachable balloons,detachable coils and intracranial covered stents in management of intracranial giant aneurysms.Methods From April 1998 to March 2006,20 patients with a giant or very large aneurysm were treated by parent artery occlusion(PAO), coils embolization and covered stent,in which 9 aneurysms were treated by PAO,8 by coils embolization and 3 by covered stent at initial management.Two recurrent aneurysms treated by coils embolization were performed by covered stent.Follow-up 9-83 months,mean 41.1?25.3 months.Immediate postprocedural angiographic outcomes were categorized as complete occlusion(100%),subtotal occlusion(95%-99%),and incomplete occlusion(＜95%)of the aneurysms;and follow-up angiographic outcomes were categorized as stable, thrombosis,and recanalization.Clinical outcomes were graded according to a modified Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS).Results Endovascular treatment was technically feasible in all aneurysms without procedural-related complications.Immediate postprocedural angiograms showed complete occlusion was achieved in 11 aneurysms, subtotal occlusion in 7 and incomplete occlusion in 2.One patient with incomplete occlusion died on the seventh day with a rebleeding.The final angiographic findings in nineteen survival patients confirmed a complete occlusion in 15 aneurysms,subtotal occlusion in 3 and incomplete occlusion in 1,in which 10 parent arteries were successfully preserved.No rebleeding occurred during the follow-up period.The clinical evaluation performed at final follow-up in 19 patients revealed that the symptoms disappeared in 11 patients and improved in 8 in the modified GOS.Conclusions Treatment of giant intracranial aneurysms with coiling was associated with a low complete occlusion rate and a high recanalization rate.Treatment with endovascular parent artery occlusion remains practical,but this technique may result in damage to the parent artery and cause cerebral ischemic events.The use of an intracranial covered stent proved to be a relatively simple and safe procedure and maintained the pateney of the parent artery.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of a new anticoagulant, annexin V derivative (AND) on anticoagulation and antithrombosis.

METHODSHigh and low doses of AND were given to rabbits (groups 1 and 2 respectively) by intravenous (iv) bolus injections followed by half the respective AND doses by iv infusion over 2 hours. Control groups were iv given heparin (group 3) and saline (group 4) of the same volume and procedure as that in group 1 and 2. Blood cell count, activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), prothrombin time (PT), thrombin time (TT) and fibrinogen level were examined before and 15, 30 and 60 min after iv bolus and 2 hours after the end of iv infusion. A 3.0 mm x 15 mm balloon was put into femoral artery to induce endothelial denudation 15 min after IV bolus and the blood pressure of femoral artery was monitored until the pulse pressure recorded 0 mm Hg when the vessel was occluded completely by a thrombus. The femoral arteries were collected and the thrombi were stripped off for measuring their lengths, wet and dry weights.

RESULTSAnticoagulation parameters: APTT at 15 min after iv bolus in AND group was significantly longer than that in group 4 (P < 0.05) but shorter than that in group 3 (P < 0.05); APTT and TT in group 3 were significantly longer than those in groups 1, 2 and 4. Fibrinogen: 0.70 mg/kg AND may decrease fibrinogen. Antithrombosis values: the wet and dry weights in AND groups were significantly lighter than those in group 3 and 4 (P < 0.05). The dry weight in high-dose AND group was remarkably lighter than that in low-dose group (P = 0.029). The length of thrombus in low-dose AND group was remarkably shorter than that in group 4 (P = 0.013), but not for group 3 (P > 0.05). It was remarkably shorter in high-dose AND group than in both group 3 (P < 0.001) and 4 (P = 0.015). The time when pulse pressure equaled to 0 was longer in AND group than in group 4 (P < 0.05), but not in 3.

CONCLUSIONAND is an effective anticoagulant and antithrombosis agent, the highest anticoagulation effect occurs at 15 min after IV bolus. Its anticoagulation effect is not more potent than that of standard heparin, while antithrombosis capacity is more effective. AND in treating thrombosis clinically might be promising.

OBJECTIVETo explore whether the nerve growth factor has protective effects on PC12 cells from injury induced by 2, 5-hexanedione.

METHODSWith PC12 cells as the model of neurons, different concentrations of NGF were added into the culture of PC12 cells. Then cell viability was tested with MTT. The DNA fragment was observed with agarose gel electrophoresis. The apoptosis ratio was tested with flow cytometry (FACS). The p53 protein was detected with western blot. The differences among the groups were compared.

RESULTSCell viabilities were increased with the increase of the concentrations of NGF (P < 0.05). The DNA fragment, the apoptosis ratio and the expression of p53 were all decreased with the increase of the concentrations of NGF (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe NGF might have direct nutritional effects on PC12 cells, and protect them from injury induced by 2, 5 HD. Moreover, it might also have anti-apoptosis effect to some extent.
