1.Relationship between serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 and carotid atherosclerosis in type 2 Diabetes

Objective To investigated the relationship between serum matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) and carotid atherosclerosis(AS) in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 93 patients with T2DM were recruited to our study.The intima-media thickness(IMT) and plaques of carotid artery were measured.These patients were divided into 3 groups according to their IMT values: diabetes mellitus(DM) group(n=32),carotid artery intima thicken group(n=31) and carotid artery intima plaque group(n=30).At the same time,30 healthy individuals were selected as control.Serum level of MMP-9 were determined and analyzed.Results The serum MMP-9 in DM group was significantly higher than that in healthy controls([550.26±269.28]μg/L vs.[359.70±215.62]μg/L,t=2.23,P<0.05).The serum MMP-9 level of intima thicken group(712.15±340.47)μg/L was significantly higher than that in healthy controls(t=4.53,P<0.01) and DM group(t=2.40,P<0.05).The serum MMP-9 level of plaque group([889.08±247.80]μg/L) was even more significantly higher than DM group(t=4.89,P<0.01),IMT group(t=2.53,P<0.05) and healthy controls(t=7.01,P<0.01).Conclusion The severity of carotid atherosclerosis in T2DM is closely associated with the serum MMP-9 level.
2.Crystallin and congenital cataract

Congenital cataract is responsible for approximately one tenth of childhood blindness worldwide.Generally,cataract includes three inheriting types:autosomal dominant,autosomal recessive or X-linked.The identified genes so far for hereditary cataracts in both human and animal model mainly include encoding structural lens protein,gap junction protein,membrane protein and regulatory protein involved in lens development.Crystallins are the major structural protein of the lens.Mutation in the crystallin genes can result in lens opacity.Understanding of the mechanism of hereditary cataract may also be helpful for us to understand the involvement of environmental and nutritional factors in the process of lens opacification.The function of the crystallins proteins,the mutations in crystallin genes and associated phenotypes are summarized.

5.Changes of choroidal thickness and hemodynamic parameters and their influencing factors in patients with diabetic retinopathy

?AIM: To study the changes of choroidal thickness and hemodynamic parameters in patients with diabetic retinopathy and their influencing factors.?METHODS: From January 2013 to January 2015, 100 patients (100 eyes) with type 2 diabetes were divided into 3 groups:34 patients without diabetic retinopathy ( NDR) , 36 patients with non proliferative diabetic retinopathy ( NPDR) group, and 30 patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). According to the results of OCT, the patients with diabetic retinopathy were divided into 2 groups: diabetic macular edema ( DME ) group ( 28 cases) , and 38 cases without diabetic macular edema. During the same period in our hospital 35 subjects for physical examination were selected as the control group. The hemodynamic parameters of the posterior ciliary artery in different groups of patients at different distance from the center of the macular were compared, analyzing influencing factors.?RESULTS:With the aggravation of diabetic retinopathy, the choroidal thickness in different distance from the center of the macular decreased. The choroidal thickness of NPDR and PDR group were thinner than that of the control group (P<0. 05). The choroidal thickness of NDR group was not different from the control group (P>0. 05). There was no significant difference in the choroidal thickness between the DME patients and non DME patients (P>0. 05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was no significant correlation between choroidal thickness of patients with diabetic retinopathy and diabetic duration, fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, eye axis length, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure (P>0. 05), but there was a correlation with BCVA (logMAR) (P<0. 01). EDV and PSV in NDR group and NPDR group were significantly lower than those in control group, RI was higher than that in control group. PSV and EDV in PDR group were significantly lower than those in other three groups, RI was higher than the other three groups, and the difference was statistically significant ( P<0. 05).?CONCLUSION:With the severity of retinopathy in type 2 diabetic patients, the choroidal thickness decreased, and the thickness of the choroid is beneficial in the comprehensive analysis of 2 diabetic retinopathy.
7.Non-reinfectious Recurrence Factors of Gastric Ulcer after Helicobacter pylori Eradication

BacKground:Helicobacter pylori ( Hp ) infection is an important etioIogicaI factor of gastric uIcer. AIthough eradicating Hp can heIp gastric uIcer heaIing,there is stiII a high recurrence rate of gastric uIcer. Therefore,other factors pIaying a roIe in the pathogenesis of gastric uIcer shouId be in concern. Aims:To investigate the non-reinfectious recurrence factors of gastric uIcer after Hp eradication. Methods:A totaI of 164 newIy diagnosed gastric uIcer patients with Hp infection from January 2011 to June 2012 at Ren Ji HospitaI,SchooI of Medicine,Shanghai Jiao Tong University were enroIIed. AII patients were given Hp eradication therapy and treatment of gastric uIcer. Patients with successfuI Hp eradication and heaIing of gastric uIcer were foIIowed up at 3,6,12 months after uIcer heaIing. Suspected risk factors of gastric uIcer recurrence were coIIected,and their reIationships with recurrence were anaIyzed. Results:A totaI of 123 patients positive for Hp infection compIeted the 12 months foIIow-up,gastric uIcer recurred in 18(14. 6%)of them. Chi-square test reveaIed that age,gender,smoking/drinking,non-steroidaI anti-infIammatory drugs( NSAIDs ),negative emotions and unheaIthy eating habits were significantIy associated with the recurrence of gastric uIcer(P<0. 05). Of the unheaIthy eating habits, irreguIar eating, and preference of indigestibIe food and fast food/carbonated drinks were significantIy associated with recurrence of gastric uIcer( P <0. 05 ). Conclusions:Patients with gastric uIcer shouId change their unheaIthy Iiving habits,foIIow rationaI use of drugs,and keep heaIthy mentaI status and eating habits for avoiding the recurrence of gastric uIcer.

Objective To investigate the effects of microencapsulated NGF expressing NIH3T3 cells on the repair of peripheral nerve defect in rats.Methods Thirty SD male rats with 10 mm defect of sciatic nerve were randomly divided into three groups(n=10).Group A: The nerve defect was bridged with heterogeneous nerve,the neural regeneration room was formed and filled with microencapsulated NGF expressing NIH3T3 cells.Group B: Autogenous nerve grafting was performed.Group C: The nerve defect was bridged with heterogeneous nerve,the neural regeneration room was formed and filled with microencapsulated NIH3T3 cells.The walking track analysis,electrophysiological and morphological observation were performed 12 weeks after operation.Results There were no significant differences of sciatic nerve function index,nerve concluctive velocity,histological changes of regenerative nerve,maturation degree of regenerative nerve fiber between group A and group B 4,8,12 weeks after operation;group A and B were surperior to group C(P
