Purpose: This descriptive study aimed to determine the mediating effect of self-efficacy on symptom experience and health-related quality of life in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Methods: Data were collected between November 7 and November 20, 2023, from patients receiving outpatient treatment at the pulmonology department of a tertiary general hospital in Jeonju City, following a diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Hayes’s PROCESS macro 3.5 was utilized to verify the significance of the indirect effect of the mediator. Results: Symptom experience had a significant negative effect on self-efficacy (β=-.50, p<.001), with the model explaining 22.2% of the variance. Additionally, symptom experience negatively impacted health-related quality of life (β=-.20, p=.032), while self-efficacy positively influenced health-related quality of life (β=.33, p<.001), with the model explaining 52% of the variance. The indirect effect of symptom experience on health-related quality of life, mediated by self-efficacy, was significant (Indirect effect=-0.17, 95% Boot confidence interval=-0.33~-0.03). Conclusion To improve health-related quality of life in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, it is essential to assess symptom experience and self-efficacy levels. Developing and implementing nursing strategies that incorporate collaborative self-management to enhance self-efficacy is crucial.

PURPOSE: In this study an examination was done of nursing students' knowledge, awareness and performance of standard precaution guidelines designed to prevent medical-related infections. METHODS: Participants in this study were 184 junior and senior college nursing students who completed a clinical practice. Data collection was done from December 3 to 21, 2016 and was analyzed using SPSS/WIN 18.0. RESULTS: The mean score for awareness of standard precautions was 4.77±0.35, and the mean score for performance of standard precautions was 4.45±0.41. Performance was lower than awareness. Knowledge of standard precautions had a positive correlation with performance of standard precautions (r=.23, p=.002). There was also a positive correlation between awareness and performance of standard precautions (r=.49, p<.001). Stepwise regression analysis showed that the factors affecting the performance of standard precaution totaled 27.3% of determination coefficient due to the degree of observation and knowledge, awareness of standard precautions. CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that factors influencing performance of standard precautions are the degree of observation of the students themselves and their knowledge and awareness of standard precautions and also provide basic data necessary to develop education programs for nursing students to improve their performance of standard precautions.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine an increase in the number of younger and middle-aged people who have a stroke and the differences in their recovery experience compared with older people. METHODS: The research question for this study was "What is the recovery experience of young adults and middle-aged people who suffer a stroke?". In order to answer the question, the grounded theory method was utilized. The data was collected through individual in-depth interviews of six participants, their age ranged from 36 to 45 years old. RESULTS: After comparative analysis, the core category was "standing up for oneself with limit". The experience process were categorized into four stages: 'Facing Reality stage', 'Motivation stage', 'Desire Recovery stage', 'Self-Overcoming stage'. CONCLUSION: Most of the research for the recovery process was prognostic in nature and the results. This study was demonstrated certain indicators which can be useful in further research.

The association of classic Kaposi's sarcoma with other neoplasm(primary or secondary) may serve as a clinical indicator for altered immunologic surveillance mechanisms. The association have been discussed for several decades. But the association of Kaposi's sarcoma with pancreatic cancer has not been reported. We report a case of Kaposi's sarcoma associated with pancreatic cancer in a 79-year-old man, who had tender papules and plaques on the left hand. The histopathologic findings showed typical features of Kaposi's sarcoma as a dermal tumor composed of vascular proliferations, vascular slits, spindle cells, extravasated erythrocytes and deposits of hemosiderin.

The skin functions to eliminate foreign substances through the epidermis to epidermal surface; this process is called transepidermal elimination(TEE). TEE has been observed in various skin tumors. A 71-year-old woman presented with a well-circumscribed, red-brownish, subcutaneous nodule, 1.3x1.0 cm in size, located on the left thigh. The histopathologic finding of the lesion shows trichilemmal cyst with transepidermal elimination.

Lymphoma is the second most common neoplasm in the head and neck, and is the most common cause of unilateral neck mass in patients between 21 and 40 years of age. This report is a retrospective review of histologically proven lymphomas in 42 patients regarding histologic type, clinical stage, and CT imaging patterns. CT imaging plays an important role in making diagnosis, planning treatment, and evaluating recurrence after treatment. CT imaging patterns are classified into 4 types: Type 1 is nodal lymphoma, Type 2 extranodal lymphoma, Type 3 combined nodal and extranodal lymphoma, and Type 4 multifocal extranodal lymphoma. In conclusion, Lymphoma should be considered when multiple, nonnecrotic, homogenous lymph nodes are located in deep lymphatic chains (especially when they are large and bilateral or when both are the superficial and deep lymph node chains are involved simultaneously) and no mucosal abnormality of the aerodigestive tract is observed. Additionary, when a large nasopharyngeal mass lesion shows limited or equivocal bone destruction or a mass is identified on two sides of a nasal bone without frank destruction and when multiple sites of disease are identified in extranodal tissues.
