The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between college women's resourcefulness and health promoting behaviors. The subjects were 215 college women students who were non-married and ranged in grade from 1 to 4. Data was collected from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30, 2001 by a structured questionnaires. The instruments, which were modified by researcher and used for this study, were the revised Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile (HPLP) developed by Walker, Sechrist and Pender(1987), the Resourcefulness developed by Rosenbaum(1980) and the general characteristic scale developed by the researcher. The data were analyzed by the SPSS/PC+ program using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows : 1. The mean score of resourcefulness was 109.29(range:36~180). 2.There were statistically significant difference in the score of resourcefulness according to the grade(F=2.889, P=.037) and drinking(t=-3.264, P=.002). 3.The mean score of health promoting behaviors was 107.21(range: 44~176). 4.There were statistically significant difference in the score of the health promoting behaviors according to the grade(F=.141, P=.039), smoking(t=-3.314, P=.008) and drinking (t=-4.091, P=.000). 5. College women's degree of resourcefulness showed a positive correlation with the degree of health promoting behavior (r=.573, P=.000). 6. By means of multiple regression analysis, the resourcefulness provided explained 32.9% of health promoting behavior. In conclusion, the resourcefulness should be considered when developing nursing strategies for college women, especially when dealing with the health promoting behaviors. The recommendations from this study necessitate of further studies to investigate how smoking and drinking have an effect on the health promoting behaviors.

The purpose of this study was to find out and evaluate discrepancies between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values and factors contributing to it in 45 patients(17 male, 28 female) who were diagnosed as skeletal Class III malocclusion and received presurgical orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery at Yonsei university dental hospital. Lateral cephalograms were analyzed at pretreatment(T1), orthodontic prediction(T2), immediately before surgery(T3) and designated the landmark as coordinates of X and Y axes. The samples were divided according to ALD, upper and lower incisor inclination(U1 to SN, IMPA), COS, extraction, the position of extracted teeth and the statistical significance was tested to find out the factors contributing to the prediction. The results were as follows : 1. Differences between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values(T2-T3) were statistically significant(p<0.05) in the x coordinates of U6mbc, L1x and in y coordinates of U1i, U1x, U6me, U6mbc, L6mbc 2. The accuracy of prediction is relatively higher in horizontal changes compared to vertical changes. 3. The statistical significance(p<0.05) between prediction and actual values is observed more in the landmarks of the maxilla than the mandible. 4. Differences between prediction and actual values of incisor and first molar were statistically significant(p<0.05) according to extraction vs non-extraction, extraction type, ALD in the maxilla and according to ALD, IMPA in the mandible. Discrepancies between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values and factors contributing to the prediction must be considered in treatment planning of Cl III surgical patients to increase the accuracy of prediction. Furthermore future investigations are needed on the prediction of vertical changes.

PURPOSE: We investigated whether in utero exposure to magnesium sulfate is associated with lower incidence of neonatal mortality, morbidity, and neurodevelopmental abnormalities in very low birth weight infants. METHODS: We evaluated 172 infants with birth weight less than 1,500g. According to the maternal receipt of magnesium sulfate, we divided into two groups. We reviewed the medical records of mothers and their babies to evaluate clinical outcome. RESULTS: Of 172 infants, 58(GA 30.0+/-2.3weeks, BW 1,20+/-2221g) received magnesium sulfate prior to delivery for tocolysis or preeclampsia(study group). The remaining 114(GA 29.6+/-2.3weeks, BW 1,220 +/-198g) served as the control group. Neonatal mortality was not significantly different between the two groups(12.5% vs 26.0%). There was no significant difference between the two groups in neonatal complications' RDS(52.4% vs 67.6%), BPD(16.7% vs 29.6%), apnea(52.4% vs 67.6%), IVH(23.8% vs 31.0%), PVL(4.8% vs 11.3%), NEC(7.1% vs 7.0%), ROP(26.8% vs 41.2%), and neal infection(33.3% vs 54.9%). The duration of ventilator therapy(10.9+/-7.3 vs 14.2+/-10.6 days), oxygen administration(20.2+/-20.0 vs 24.3+/-19.9 days) and admission(51.5+/-16.9 vs 54.6+/-16.7 days) were not different. Among 64 patients in whom follow up evaluation was possible more than 1 year, the incidence of cerebral palsy or developmental delay was not different(12.0% vs 12.8%). CONCLUSION: Maternal receipt of magnesium sulfate does not seem to be associated with an appreciably reduced risk of neonatal mortality, morbidity, and neurodevelopmental abnormalities in very low birth weight infants. PURPOSE: The Purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between state anxiety and maternal fetal attachment of unmarried mothers in a welfare center. METHODS: The subjects were 25 unmarried mothers in a welfare center. The data was collected through personal interviews using a questionnaire. The instruments used for this study were the modified Spielberger's state anxiety inventory and Cranley's Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale. Data was analyzed descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation, t-test and the pearson correlation coefficient with the SPSS computer program. RESULTS: The age of the subjects ranged from 15 to 25, and their average age was 20.0. The mean score of state anxiety was 58.2. There was significant difference in the degree of maternal state anxiety between the group whose pregnancy was known by their family and the group whose pregnancy was hidden. The group whose pregnancy was known showed a low state anxiety score. There was a significant difference in the degree of maternal state anxiety by the gestational period. The group who were in the second and third gestational trimester showed lower state anxiety score than in the first trimester. The mean score of maternal-fetal attachment (MFA) was 64.9. There were significant differences in the degree of maternal fetal attachment, by an ultrasound scan experience. The most frequently practiced attachment item was "I think the fetus is able to feel (mean 3.8) ". Unmarried mothers degree of state anxiety showed a negative correlation with the degree of maternal fetal attachment (r=-.25), but there was no significant difference between the two variables. CONCLUSIONS: The unmarried mothers made an effort in striving to reduce their high state anxiety and to enhance maternal fetal attachment. They also realize how to take care of their state anxiety.
