A 63 year old male suffered from a acute huge inferolateral and posterior myocardial infarction with vertricular septal perforation(1x1.5cm). Cardiogenic shock and ventricular tachycardia occured on the 3rd day in hospital. After cardiopulmonary resuscitation the deteriorated condition of the patient was improved by intraaortic balloon counterpulsation(IABP). The invasive diagnostic procedure(LV angiography and coronary angiogram) was carried out under the employment of IABP and artificial ventrilation. The patients has recovered from the operation(coronary artery bypass graft and VSD patch op) and myocardial infarction. Because of recurrent aspiration pneumonia the patient was nourished per gastrostomy. He died 3 month later due to upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Purpose: This descriptive study analyzed the factors affecting turnover intention among married nurses in smalland medium-sized hospitals with less than 300 beds. Methods: Data were collected from 177 married nurses located in K city from April 8, 2022 to April 21, 2022 using a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, independent tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient test, and multiple regression were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 22 program. Results: Nurses rated items on a scale of five points. Their average rating for job satisfaction was 3.43±0.30, resilience was 3.51±0.38, and role conflict was 2.60±0.63. The nursing practice environment was rated 3.12±0.44, and turnover intention was 3.14±0.62 points. Age, job satisfaction, and nursing practice environment accounted for 25.1% of turnover intention (F=6.90, p<.001). Conclusion To decrease married nurses’ turnover intention in small- and medium-sized hospitals with less than 300 beds, these findings can help develop a program that addresses the causes of high turnover amongst married nurses in local hospitals.

By means of retrospective quantitative neuroanatomic imaging, the authors assessed the corpus callosum and the lateral venticle in the boys with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The midsagittal cross-sectional area of the corpus callosum, divided into seven regions, and the axial ventricle-brain ratio were measured from magnetic resonance images of 18 boys with ADHD and 15 comparison boys. Two anterior regions, the menu and the rostral body, were found to have significantly smaller areas in the ADHD boys. There was no significantly difference in ventricle-brain ratio between ADHD and comparison boys. This finding supports the theory of abnormal frontal lobe development in ADHD.

The Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) revised the Health Functional Food Act in 2008 and extended the form of health functional foods to general food types. Therefore, this study was performed to investigate consumers' perceptions of the expanded form of health functional food and to predict consumption patterns. For this study, 1,006 male and female adults aged 19 years and older were selected nationwide by multi-stage stratified random sampling and were surveyed in 1:1 interviews. The questionnaire survey was conducted by Korea Gallup. The subjects consisted of 497 (49.4%) males and 509 (50.6%) females. About 57.9% of the subjects recognized the KFDA's permission procedures for health functional foods. Regarding the health functional foods that the subjects had consumed, red ginseng products were the highest (45.3%), followed by nutritional supplements (34.9%), ginseng products (27.9%), lactobacillus-containing products (21.0%), aloe products (20.3%), and Japanese apricot extract products (18.4%). Opinions on expanding the form of health functional foods to general food types scored 4.7 points on a 7-point scale, showing positive responses. In terms of the effects of medicine-type health functional foods versus generic health functional foods, the highest response was 'same effects if the same ingredients are contained' at a rate of 34.7%. For intake frequency by food type, the response of 'daily consistent intake' was 31.7% for capsules, tablets, and pills, and 21.7% for extracts. For general food types, 'daily consistent intake' was 44.5% for rice and 22.8% for beverages, which were higher rates than those for medicine types. From the above results, consumers had positive opinions of the expansion of health functional foods to generic forms but are not expected to maintain accurate intake frequencies or amounts. Thus, continuous promotion and education are needed for proper intake of generic health functional foods.

In this study, 342 grade 4-6 elementary school students in Gyeonggi-do were recruited to determine their readiness to change food safety behavior and to compare their food safety knowledge and practices by the stages of change. The subjects were divided into three stages of change; the percentage of stage 1 (precontemplation) was 10.1%, the percentage of stage 2 (contemplation and preparation) was 62.4%, and that of stage 3 (action and maintenance) was 27.5%. Food safety knowledge scores in stage 3 (4.55) or stage 2 (4.50) children were significantly higher than those in stage 1 children (4.17) (P < 0.05). The two food safety behavior items "hand washing practice" and "avoidance of harmful food" were significantly different among the three groups (P < 0.05). Stages of change were significantly and positively correlated with food safety knowledge and practice. Age was significantly and negatively correlated with the total food safety behavior score (r = -0.142, P < 0.05). The most influential factor on the stage of change was a mother's instruction about food safety (P < 0.01).

Purpose: This year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Korean Society of Nursing Science (KSNS). This study wasaimed to explore development of caring and describe the 50 years of history of KSNS within the sociocultural context of Korea regardingacademic footsteps, meanings, and implications for the future. Methods: This study used a historical research methodology using a literaturereview and bibliometric analysis. Relevant literature was reviewed and the published abstracts in the Journal of Korean Academy ofNursing (JKAN) were analyzed using VOSviewer. Results: Birth control and family planning in the 1970s was the main research topic. In the1980s, the development of nursing concepts, theories, and philosophies was the mission of KSNS to extend the disciplinary boundary. In the1990s, the progress of KSNS to become one of the woman-dominant healthcare professionals was the mission in the given period. Expandingthe frontiers of KSNS to the extent of global standards was the undertaking of the nursing scholars in the 2000s. Lastly, in the 2010s,the quality and quantity improvement of KSNS and JKAN is expected to make our future even prosperous. The map visualization of the 50years of research accumulation showed the comparable opposition of quantitative vs. qualitative research methodologies, equation modeling,and instrument development. Conclusion These clusters of research demonstrates the efforts to make nursing evidence by Koreannursing scholars for the last five decades. The growth in the slope of KSNS and outcomes of JKAN are to carry on to an unimaginable extentin the future.

High-dose aprotinin (Hammersmith regimen) has been widely used for years to control postoperative bleeding and reduce blood consumption in cardiac surgery but had known to cause some side-effects and had disadvantage in cost-effectiveness. The prospective controlled study of 33 patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass was performed to evaluate the efficacy for reducing postoperative bleeding and unfavorable effects of low-dose aprotinin. The level of hemoglobin and platelet in the blood and the amount of postoperative bleeding were assessed preoperatively, and postoperatively for the study of hemostatic function. The level of BUN and serum creatinine in the blood, levels of urine creatinine, total protein, albumin, alpha-1-microglobulin and creatinine clearance were assessed before and after the operation for the study of renal function. The aprotinin group had a significant reduction in chest tube drainage; 243+/- 123 ml versus 406+/-303 ml (P=0.037) during 6 hours immediate-postoperatively, 494+/-358 ml versus 869+/-570 ml (P=0.045) during 24 hours postoperatively. The ratio of alpha-1-microglobulin/creatinine and microalbumin/creatinine in the urine were slightly increased in the aprotinin group postoperatively in comparison with the control group but there were no statistically significant difference (55+/-23 versus 24+/-10 in the alpha-1-microglobulin/creatinine, 56+/-19 versus 38+/-25 in the microalbumin/creatinine at post- operative 3rd day). There were no significant difference between two groups in other parameters of renal function, too. This study showed that low-dose aprotinin is an effective means of reducing postoperative bleeding without inducing significant renal dysfunction.

PURPOSE: Presenteeism is a relatively new concept in nursing describing the condition within which registered nurses (RNs) come to work while they are sick. The purpose of this study was to explore and describe presenteeism experiences among RNs in South Korea. METHODS: In this constructivist grounded theory study, a focus group interview (FGI) technique was utilized for data collection. A total of 20 RNs at one hospital in Chuncheon city joined in three different FGIs. Semistructured questions were asked in reference to their sickness experience in the workplace. Data analysis was conducted according to the constructivist grounded theory methodology. RESULTS: All participants had experiences of presenteeism. The overriding theme was "having no caring for nurses leads to losing one's nursing mind". The participants reported that due to either their personal preference or peer pressure they showed up to work, but they felt sad and their pride was hurt by the fact that there was no caring for them from other nurses. This emotional exhaustion often led to the loss of compassion and the resignation of nursing staff. CONCLUSIONS: Care for nurses in the workplace is necessary for RNs to make their presenteeism experience positive and even effective.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze articles published in the Journal of the Korean Academy of Nursing (JKAN) between 2010 and 2019, along with those published in three international nursing journals, to improve JKAN’s international reputation. Methods: The overall characteristics of JKAN’s published papers and keywords, study participants, types of nursing interventions and dependent variables, citations, and cited journals were analyzed. Additionally, the keywords and study designs, publication-related characteristics, journal impact factors (JIF), and Eigenfactor scores of International Journal of Nursing Studies (IJNS), International Nursing Review (INR), Nursing & Health Sciences (NHS), and JKAN were analyzed and compared. Results: Among the four journals, JKAN’s score was the lowest in both the journal impact factor and Eigenfactor score. In particular, while the JIF of INR and NHS has been continuously increasing; JKAN’s JIF has remained static for almost 10 years. The journals which had cited JKAN and those which JKAN had cited were mainly published in Korean. Conclusion JKAN still has a low IF and a low ranking among Social Citation Index (E) journals during the past 10 years, as compared to that of four international journals. To enhance JKAN’s status as an international journal, it is necessary to consider publishing it in English and to continuously improve the conditions of other publications.
