1.Femtosecond laser promotes the proliferation and differentiation of human gingival fibroblasts on pure titanium surface
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(34):5428-5432
BACKGROUND:Currently, the implant surface is optimized to promote the osseointegration of artificial dental implants, which has become a research focus in recent years. But the femtosecond laser is less reported to modify the titanium surface so as to promote fibroblast proliferation and differentiation. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of femtosecond laser on the proliferation and differentiation of human periodontal ligament fibroblasts on titanium surface. METHODS: Human periodontal ligament fibroblasts were respectively inoculated on different titanium surfaces of the three groups (femtosecond laser group, TiO2 particle blasted group and pure titanium group). Then differentiation and proliferation of human periodontal ligament fibroblasts were observed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:There was a significant difference in the surface roughness among these three groups, and compared with the pure titanium group, the attached cels were more in the femtosecond laser group and TiO2 particle blasted group. mRNA expressions of RUNX2 and OSX were highest in the femtosecond laser group folowed by TiO2 particle blasted group and pure titanium group in order. These findings indicate that pure titanium treated with femtosecond laser has fine biological property and may be more feasible for human periodontal ligament fibroblasts to attach, grow and proliferate.

Korean Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases 2014;21(3):167-173
PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the changes in the outbreak of acute gastroenteritis, rotavirus gastroenteritis after the introduction of the rotavirus vaccine in Korea. METHODS: The current study investigated the number of inpatients in the pediatric ward of Inje University Sanggye Paik Hospital during the periods of 2005-2006 and 2011-2012. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the medical records of 2,840 patients <5 years of age who were hospitalized at Inje University Sanggye Paik Hospital in these time periods. RESULTS: When we compared 2 separate sets of data from before (2005-2006) and after (2011-2012) vaccine introduction, there were statistically significant decreases in the number of patients who were hospitalized for acute gastroenteritis across all of the groups of patients <5 years of age except those <2 months of age. The number of patients with rotavirus gastroenteritis in all age groups declined except for children <2 months of age and those 2-5 months of age. CONCLUSION: These results show that after the introduction of a rotavirus vaccine in Korea, the incidence of rotavirus gastroenteritis decreased in 6-59-month-old patients hospitalized for acute gastroenteritis.

BACKGROUND:Chitosan modification for magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles can improve the agglomeration and stability of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, and in addition, it can be used for tumor hyperthermia and gene therapy in the future.
OBJECTIVE:To explore the biocompatibility of magnetic chitosan microspheres which have the potential application in tumor hyperthermia and gene therapy.
METHODS:Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were prepared using the modified chemical precipitation. Phacoemulsification method was used to add chitosan into magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles in the preparation of magnetic chitosan microspheres. Then, the fol owing tests were performed. (1) Cytotoxicity test:L-929 cells were cultured in 1640 medium, polyacrylamide monomer solution, 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%of magnetic chitosan microsphere extracts. (2) Hemolysis test:Magnetic chitosan microspheres leaching solution, saline and distil ed water were added. (3) Micronucleus test:Kunming mice were intraperitoneal y injected with magnetic chitosan microspheres suspension containing 5, 3.75, 2.5, 1.25 g/kg iron oxide magnetic fluid, cyclophosphamide and saline, respectively.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Magnetic chitosan microspheres of 200-300 nm in diameter had an increased dispersion effect. The result of 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay showed that the toxicity of the material on L-929 celllines belonged to no cytotoxicity. In the hemolysis test, the hemolysis rate of magnetic chitosan microspheres was 0.69%far less than 5%. In the micronucleus test, magnetic chitosan microspheres suspension did not cause DNA fragmentation and aneuploidy, and did not result in genetic toxicological effects produced by micronuclei. The magnetic chitosan microspheres did not appear with cacogenesis and mutagenesis. From the results, magnetic chitosan microspheres are a kind of high biocompatibility material.

Chinese Journal of Internal Medicine 2008;47(5):362-365
Objective To provide clues to diagnosis and treatment for diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH)in patients with diffuse connective tissue diseases(CTD).Method To analyze restropeetively the data of clinical features, pulmonary images and bronchoalveolar lavage(BAL)in 32 patients hospitalized in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from April 2004 to June 2007.Results The data from 1O of the 17 (58.8%)patients with microscopic polyangiitis(MPA),19 of the 1267(1.5%)patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE),2 of the 56(3.6%)patients with Wegener's granulomatosis(WG)and 1 of the 570(0.2%)patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA)were consistent with the diagnosis of DAH.DAH in SLE occurred in younger patients(mean age at the time of diagnosis 27.3±13.1 years)and early in the course of disease(median duration of SLE from onset was 16.7±18.3 months),while these figures in MPA patients with DAH were 50.1±20.7 years and 10.6±18.7 months. At the time of DAH in SLE.the median systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index(SLEDAI)score was 17.1±6.7 and anti-ds-DNA antibody titer elevated markedly, while the median C3 level was low.The levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR)and C-reactive protein(CRP)of patients with DAH in MPA,WG and RA showed marked elevation. The titer of antieutrophil cytoplasmic antibody(ANCA,MPO/PR3)in patients with MPA and WG was highly positive. The main clinical manifestations of DAH were hemoptysis, dyspnea and rapid decrease of hemoglobulin and hematoerit(HCT)in peripheral blood. Most patients presented with difluse alveolar infiltration on chest X-ray and hish resolution CT.DAH could be confirmed by bloody bronchoscopic lavage.20 patients(62.5%)had secondary pulmonary infections at the time of DAH;fungus and combined bacterial infection were most frequently seen. The mortalitv 0f CTD with DAH was 59.4%(19 out of 32).12 patients (63.2%)with SLE,5 patients(50%)with MPA and both of the 2 patients with WG died.12 of the lethal cases(63.2%)died of respiratory failure. Conclusions CTD patients presenting with hemoptysis and dyspnea with rapid decrease of hemoglobulin, and diffuse alveolar infiltration on chest X-ray or high resolution CT should be seriously considered to be suffering from DAH.A bloody BAL may confirm the diagnosis of DAH.DAH in CTD is an acute, serious and frequently life-threatening situation resulting in respiratory hilure and pulmonary infection. It is important for CTD patients with DAH to be diagnosed early and treated vigorously.
