1.From the drug actual situation in Vietnam in the year 2002 to the combination of traditional and modern medicine regarding social problems in anti-drug addiction misson in Vietnam

There were 142.001 drug addicts in Vietnam at the end of 2002. 60% of them affected with HIV/AIDS. 40% of the addicts received treatment for drug withdrawal in special institutions. Besides modern medicine, traditional treatment methods included herbal prescriptions such as Cemedex, Camat, etc, steam bath, acupuncture. The overall outcome showed that addiction crisis might be cut off, but nearly 90% of people had been addicted again so far in Vietnam. Several socio-medical recommendations were suggested to improve the situation

2.Evaluation on the effect of "Cao la muop" in the treatment of superficial burns

The leaves of Luffa cylindrica (L.) Roem (Cucurbitaceae) were extracted with ethanol to afford a 2/1 extract which was proved to contain flavonoids, coumarins and triterpenic saponins. The in vitro analysis showed that the extract has a good inhibitory effect against streptococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia Coli, and especially against Candida albicans. The investigation for treating grade II burn injuries was performed on rabbits. The extract repidly cleaned the wound, stimulated the epithelialization of the injury, accelerated the vascularization of the fiber cells. The healing course in experimental rabbits was significantly faster than in the animals of the control group

Decoction Invigorating “yang” for recuperation was a prescription reported in the book Corrections on the Errors of Medical Works of the Qing Dynasty, written by Wang Qingren (end of 18th – beginning of 19th century). Ingredients: Radix Astragali 160g, Radix Angelicae Sinensis 8g, Radix Paeoniae Rubra 6g, Semen Persicae 4g, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong 4g, Lumbricus 4g, Flos Carthami 4g. 3 characteristics of the recipe: this was a promoting blood circulation recipe but the monarch drug – Radix astragali – has been an invigorating “qi” remedy, which has been used at the same time for promoting blood circulation. 84% (160g) of the total amount of the recipe has been the invigorating “qi” drug, this was an application of the theory: “qi” being the commander of blood. The recipe has been identified to have warm property, because the percentage of warm ingredients (Radix Astragali, Radix angelicae, Sinensis, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuangxiong, Flos Carthami) was 93% (176g)

5.Evaluation on the therapeutic results of anal fissure by point-injection procedure combined with pressing on musculus teres internus

175 patients with anal fissure have received 1% lidocaine point – injection therapy combined with pressing on musculus teres internus. Results: 19.4% (n=34) of patients with high level and 80.6% (n=141) with low level of anal spasm, experienced no longer spasm after one day and 10 days of treatment, respectively. 16.6% (n=29) of patients who had a pain in the anus at high level and 68.6% (n=120) at medium level, feeled no more pain after one day and 10 days of treatment, respectively. Anal ulcer occurred in all participants. The number of patients who no longer suffered from ulcer after 10, 15 and 20 days of treatment was 61 (n=34.9%), 136 (77.7%) and 164 (93.7%) respectively. The treatment provided remarkable results, while the practice was rather simple, no high technique equipment was required

6.Acupuncture to treat some rarely menstrual diseases

Retrograde menstruation: Due to heat stagnation in the liver channel. Principle of treatment: clearing away the liver-fire, ensuring proper downward flow of the blood. Acupoints: Taichung, Chihkou, Hoku, Yinghsiang, Keshu. Reducing needle manipulation was applied. Due to deficiency of yin fluid of both the lung and kidney. Principle of treatment: Tonifying the kidney and moistening the lung, nourishing yin and stopping bleeding, ensuring proper downward flow of the blood. Acupoints: Taiyuan, Yuchi, Hoku, Yinghsiang, Taihsi. Uniform reinforcing, reducing needle manipulation was applied. 2. Hemafecia (hematuria) during mentruation. Including hemafecia before menstruation. Principle of treatment: clearing away heat and moistening, removing heat from the blood to stop bleeding. Acupoints: Chüchih, Erhchien, Neiting, Shangchuhsu, Chengshan, Liehchüch, Kungtsui. Reducing needle manipulation was applied. And Hematuria before menstruation. 7.Preliminary evaluation on the effects of VG99 on some clinical and laboratory parameters in patients with chronic hepatitis B

The fluid extract VGG was processed from Phyllanthus amarus, Adenosma caeruleum, Plantago asiatica, Centella asiatica, Schisandra chinensis, Curcuma aromatica and Rheum officinale. The acute toxicity experiment proved that VGG was nontoxic. The clinical trial included 18 chronic hepatitis B sufferers receiving VGG 50ml/day for 2 months. The study results showed a significant improvement in almost clinical symptoms, and a decline in transaminase level. There was no change in bilirubin, total protein. From the point of view of diseases classification in traditional medicine, VGG effect was better for patients with liver-heat and spleen-damp syndromes than those with stag nation of the liver-qi and deficiency of the spleen. No adverse drug reactions were observed

8.Evaluation on the healing effects of "Bot ngam tri" (herbal medicine for soaking anus), used in post-operation

The study assessed effects of “Bot ngam tri” in treatment for patients in Surgery Department of the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine. The results: “Bot ngam tri” improved wounds for patients after haemorrhoid surgery. 15 day after treatment, good result was 83.3%, moderate result was 16.7% and poor result was 0%. The medicine had effects with dose 10 gam per soak time, twice a day. There was not clinical and subclinical side effects

9.South korean traditional medicine

Combination of Chinese Traditional medicine and Korean popular medicine. Since year 1952, the Korean Traditional medicine Association has been recognized by the Government and since the year 1953, Traditional medicine College (Kyung Hee University) was established. Up to now, there are 11 Traditional medicine Colleges in South Korea. Anually 500 doctors are graduated. In the Kyung Hee University and Wont-Wang University, traditional pharmacists specialized by material medical were graduated. In the whole country there are 115 Traditional medicine Hospitals and 6670 clinics and consultation buros of Traditional medicine. The Korean Association of Traditional medicine Hospital was established in the year 1988, and the Institute of traditional research in 1994

10.Actual situation of utilization of traditional medicine of the people in a mountainous district of Hoa Binh province

330 subjects in 6 communes of Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province were selected randomly for study from February to August 2002. Results of study showed a morbidity of 43.3%. And 64.8% of the population visited to Health Station in the case of disease, 79.1% used traditional medicine because of its availability, cheapness and without adverse effects and its effectiveness in chromical use. Traditional medicine is neglectful because of the availability of Western medicine and the lack of awareness on traditional medicine, of the recommendation from physicians and of the service facilities
