Numerous nonoperative treatments have been used to reduce pain and improve the clinical outcomes of patients with foot and ankle disorders. Among these treatments, hyaluronic acid and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections have been used increasingly. This review analyzes the recent literature reporting the efficacy and indications for hyaluronic acid and PRP injections. Hyaluronic acid and PRP can be used safely as adjuncts. Hyaluronic acid injections have shown efficacy and have a promising role as an adjuvant treatment method.In addition, its indication has expanded to various foot and ankle diseases over osteoarthritis. On the other hand, the efficacy of PRP injection has not yet been clarified, and the lack of standardization of procedures for the preparation and administration of PRP makes it difficult to establish definitive treatment indications.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This study compared two types of skin graft reconstruction for the defect of the radial forearm free flap. SUBJECTS AND METHOD: Ten cases of split-thickness skin graft (STSG) harvested from the thigh were analyzed. Also, ten cases of full-thickness skin graft (FTSG) harvest from the inguinal area applied with vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) system were analyzed. RESULTS: The defect size of the radial forearm was increased more in the STSG group than in the FTSG group (p<0.05). Skin grafts were recovered completely sooner in the FTSG group than in the STSG group although it was not statistically significant (p=0.082). Five complications (pruritus, hypertrophic scar) were found in the donor site in the STSG group (p<0.05). FTSG gave better scores according to the Vancouver Scar Scale in terms of pigmentation, pliability, and height (p<0.05). CONCLUSION FTSG harvested from the inguinal area with the application of VAC system has many advantages for the defect of the radial forearm free flap although it is usually used for smaller size defects than for STSGs.

We report two cases of postoperative total hip arthroplasty periprostehtic fracture of the acetabulum which treated by open reduction with internal fixation without acetabular cup revision. From these cases, we should consider open reduction with internal fixation as the first treatment option in cases where spot welding of the cup to the host bone is observed.
