To find a basic study for manpower of physicians and medical care systems in Busan, author has studied towards 1,069 doctors who had taken the regular report in 1973, residing in Busan City. The survey was conducted from July 1 to August 31, 1973 and the findings & results obtained through the study for distributions, characteristics, employment of doctors and some medical systems were summarized as follows; 1. The ratio between doctor and populations in Busan City was 1:1,887. 2. The doctors who graduated from Busan Medical College were 438 as the most proportion(40.9%). 3. Sex distribution of doctors revealed male 970, female 99 and those belonging to the 30-39 age group were as the most proportion(41.0%). 4. The doctors who had faith in Christianity were the highest (22.3%). 5. By the opening year of clinics, there was increasing tendency after 1950, especially during 1970-1973. 6. At that time of investigation, the doctors who had private clinics were 673(67.3%) and nonemployees were 27 (2.5%). 7. The total Medical Specialists in Busan were 519, and among them the Internal Medicine Specialists were the highest proportion (16.2%). 8. The clinics employing the disqualified nurse-aids were 237 (22.2%). 9. Most of doctors (81.8%) had opposed attitude to the establishment of new medical colleges. 10. More than half of the doctors (59.8%) agreed to the functional division between Physicians and Pharmacists. 11. The ratio of agreement to the practical application of public medical insurances was 68.7%. 12. The opinion by opening hospital-clinics at Myeon for administrative measures for doctorless rural area was the highest proportion. 13. The doctors who replied as low state of confidence of the citizens to the doctors-themselves were 691 (64.6%).

An epidemiological survey on cholera was made toward the 291 cases admitted in Pusan National University Hospital. The results were as follows. 1. The most predominant age groups among all cholera patients were form 30 to 39(21.3%). 2. 74.9% of all cases got under the educational background of primary school and 69.4% of all cases occurred at the low income group. 3. Daily average numbers of patient were 6.2 and maximum numbers were 15, August 19, 1970. 4. Among the food eaten prior to onset, drinking water was the most predominant with 16.2% and next, food and noodle groups were 14.8% and 10.3% respectively. 5. Regarding incubation period, it was found that "within 48 hours" was 83 5%. 6. Patients occurred mainly in Suh Ku area with 105(36.1%) of all closes. 7. Carrie rates among family members were 1.78%. 8. Carrier rates among residents of epidemic area were 0.l2%.

Cheilitis granulomatosa is one of the rare dermatoses which is characterized by a sudden onset and a progressive course termination in chronic enlargement of the lips Usually, enlargement of lip is the only symtom without ulceration, fissurign or scaling. It may be considered a part of the Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome and the etiology is still unknown. A 35 year old female with the clinlcal symptoms of cheilitis granulomatosa is presented; the diagnosis was confirmed by histopathologic study.

Most insects including the honeybee cause erythema and edema at the site of a sting in non-allergic individuals. This reaction usually resolves within a few days. However, in certain cases, the persistence of inciting materials in the cutaneous tissue may promote a local inflammatory foreign body reaction. Localized nodular lesions were seen in our two patients and erythemstous patches were present in one patient due to rarely encountered complications induced by retained sting materials. In these cases histopathology showed multiple foci of foreign body granuloma containing yellow refraetile material in the center surrounded by histiocytes and foreign body giant cells. The granulomatous skin lesions in these patients were treated with intralesional injections of triamcinolone acetonide and partial excisions of the nodular masses were performed.

The peripheral vascular occlusion in the diabetes was studied in fifty-nine male and forty-six female diabetic patients by means of doppler flow meter performed on the dorsalis pedis arteries & post. tibial arteries of the both lower limbs. Patients were divided into two groups, one with occlusion and the other without occlusion. Various predisposing factors causing peripheral vascular occlusions were examined. The results are summerized as follows: 1. Peripheral vascular occlusions were more prevalent in male than in female (male: 25.4%, female: 17.4%). 2. In male patients age, plasma cholesterol level & smoking were statically significant among the various predisposing factors between occlusion & nonocclusion groups. 3. In female patients, duration of diabetes mellitus and the sugar levels of fasting blood and post prandial 2 hours were statiscally significant.

Benign partial epilepsy of childhood is the most common type of epilepsy in school-aged children and is typically well controlled with antiepileptic drug, thus having an excellent prognosis. Recently, we have encountered one case of atypical benign partial epilepsy of childhood with the following atypical clinical and EEG features : predominant atypical absence seizure in addition to partial motor seizure, unusual awake EEG tracings of focal sharp waves in the frontocentrotemporal location, while the sleep tracings showed nearly continuous slow spike and wave activity. The administration of various antiepileptic drugs adversely provoked a drowsy mental state without seizure control. The patient dramatically improved after steroid therapy.

Although most of the known pathogenic mutations in the progranulin gene (PGRN) are null mutations leading to a reduction in the serum PGRN protein levels, missense mutations also have been identifi ed in patients with frontotemporal lobar degeneration and in patients with Alzheimer disease. Among these, p.R564C mutation was identifi ed in a late-onset AD patient with a reduced serum PGRN level. However, recently, we found the p.R564C mutation in a healthy control subject raising doubts whether this is a pathogenic mutation. In this report, we measured the serum PGRN levels in 20 subjects without the p.R564C mutation and in one subject with the p.R564C mutation, to determine whether the p.R564C mutation is associated with reduced serum PGRN levels. We found that the serum PGRN level in the subject with the p.R564C mutation was not reduced compared to the subjects without the p.R564C mutation. Our result reiterates that p.R564C may not be a pathogenic mutation.
