Polychondritis, Relapsing*

Generalized pustular psoriasis which is originally described by von Zumbusch in 1910, is the most intense form of the acute exanthematic variant among psoriasis. It is to be occured as a rare disease and the familial occurrence rarely has been reported. Many therapeutic attempts have been rnade to bring the condition under control, but none has unequivocally proven to alter its courae decisively. We present two cases of generalized pustular psoriasis in brother and sister (16 year-old male, 19 year-old female) which were treated successfully by pbotochemotherapy (PUVA).

Renal Insufficiency*

PURPOSE: Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty(PTA) with a balloon catheter is a standard method of treatment for membranous obstruction of inferior vena cava(MOIVC). But, correct therapeutic approach has not been established for MOIVC patients whose lesion is associated with extensive thrombotic IVC occlusion. We tried to treat MOIVC associated with or without thrombus. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We treated 13 cases of MOIVC(associated with thrombus in 7 cases, no thrombus in 6 cases) with PTA, thrombolysis and self-expandable metallic stents. RESULTS: PTA was successful in 8 cases, but failed in 5 cases. The recurred cases were retreated with PTA, but follow up study revealed recoiling restenosis in 4 cases and intimal hyperplasia in 1 case at previous PTA site which could be overcome with a self-expandable metallic stent. The complication were occurred in 3 cases which were hemothorax, hemopericardium, and hemoperitoneum respectively. However, those were resolved by conservative treatment only. CONCLUSION: Recanalization and dilatation could be done in MOIVC patients with or without thrombosis for improvement of patient's symptom. Gianturco self-expandable metallic stent is sueful in treatment of recurred MOIVC after balloon dilatation and preventing reocclusion of the IVC after PTA.

Along with traditional goal of 'straightening teeth', today's orthodontics put more and more emphasis on facial esthetics. Naturally, the importance of soft tissue, which dictates one's facial form, is noticed. There have been many cephalometric studies on growth of hard tissue; however, only a few on that of soft tissue. In Korea, various methods of sampling, measuring and analysing were used to study soft tissue changes, and yet, soft tissue changes along with process of normal growth have not been studied. The author carried out this study as a part of semi-longitudinal study on craniofacial growth and development of Korean children from ages of six to seventeen. 409 boys and 436 girls who'd had no systemic disease for the last three years and shown normal developmental and occlusal status were chosen as subjects. Cephalometric X -rays were taken of each subject, and facial form, lip position & form, nose form, and lip thickness were measured, Mean values and standard deviations were calculated according to age and gender, and figures and tables were drawn accordingly. The following results were obtained: 1. In respect to facial form, boys showed growth for longer period compared to girls. Also, lower face showed higher growth rate than upper face. 2. There was not much change in thickness of upper and lower lips with age; however , they appeared more prominent compared to caucasian children. 3. Nose grew horizontally with age. 4. Horizontal thickness of lower face increased with age, and upper lip thickness at nose base[A-Sn(FH)] showed more growth than anywhere else.

We report herein a case of primary cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with multiple skin lesions in a Korean woman. A 56-year-old woman presented with rapidly growing multiple sub-cutaneous nodules in her right flank and right upper arm. Microscopic examination of skin biopsy specimen showed diffuse infiltrates of large atypical lymphocytes with vesicular nuclei, prominent nucleoli and moderate degree of mitotic figures in deep dermis and subcutis. Immunophenotypic studies revealed the lymphoid infiltrates reacted with CD45, CD20 and bcl-2 protein, but none of the sections expressed CD3, bcl-6 protein and CD30. In physical examination and staging work-up, we could not find any other extracutaneous or systemic involvement. She was treated with 2 cycles of high-dose multiagent chemotherapy with the Vanderbilt and the BEAM regimen combined with the autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation. Until now, 10 months after termination of treatment, she has shown improvement of all skin lesions and no development of extracutaneous disease.

Recently we have experienced two cases of the morning glory syndrome which is an uncommon congenital anomaly of optic nerve head. Visual evoked potentials and fluorescein angiographic findings are described. The visual evoked potentials elicited with bright flashes and patterns revealed delayed latencies and subnormal amplitudes. The amplitude of the traces probably depends on the severity of the involvement of the optic nerve. Also, the possible macular abnormalities and the strabismic or anisometropic amblyopia developing in morning glory syndrome may contribute to the abnormal finding of visual evoked potentials.

OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to investigate the perspective and popularization of temple food among university students with food related majors, and to provide basic data for the popularization and the fostering of professional lecture in temple food. METHODS: A self-administered questionnaire was applied to 453 university students at six universities with food related majors. The questionnaire was designed to examine interest, recognition, consumption, popularization and curriculum of temple food. RESULTS: The study population consisted of 19.2% men, and 80.8% women, and the most common response to desired career after graduation was food related employment (53.9%). Overall, 49.0% replied that they had an interest in temple food, which was relatively low. 59.9% of respondents who had been known throw TV, Internet, newspaper, and magazines about temple food were showed the highest results. Additionally, as for the perception of temple food, ‘Prevention of lifestyle related disease’ was the highest score (4.10). Overall, 64.9% of the subjects had not tried temple food, and 84.7% of these responded that this was because they had not encountered temple food. Among subjects who had tried temple food, most had encountered it at a temple (73.0%), and 78.0% replied that the taste of temple food was suitable. The intention to try temple food was 73.3%, and 64.8% of respondents said there was a necessity to establishment curriculum regarding temple food. Finally, interest, popularization, and intention to try temple food were significantly positively corelated. CONCLUSIONS: The results showed high interest in temple food and willingness to participate in education regarding temple food, as well as awareness of the need for popularization. Therefore, it is necessary to increase intake opportunities to raise interest in temple foods. This can be accomplished utilizing publicity materials, as well as by offering opportunities for temple food education through curriculum.
